Morning everyone.
Sorry I have been a little absent, hope everyone is doing ok!
Can't believe my scan is in 2 days! So excited. I had a little bleeding on Monday - only a tiny amount when I wiped - so I am hoping everything is ok and thought no point in trying to be seen earlier when I am getting my scan on Friday anyway!
Touch wood I haven't been sick in a week and it seems to be dying down a little! We have my Husbands works Xmas party on Saturday so I am hoping to feel a little better for then and to be able to tell a couple of his close work friendsExpecting Baby No 1 - 20/06/14 - Team Yellow!0 -
Hi all,
I had my booking in appointment yesterday. I was there for nearly 2 hours! And have been given loads of leaflets and information to read over - which I quite like. The first thing the midwife said was "congratulations", which I thought was a nice thing for her say. We've told almost no-one about the pregnancy because we know I have a high risk of m/c and pre-term birth, so it was nice for someone to acknowledge it. If you see what I mean?
Anyway - because of my medical history and chronic urinary/renal condition, I'm being treated as "high risk". So I'll have an early consultant review a couple of days after the first scan. I actually met the consultant yesterday - the midwife doing the booking asked him for an opinion about something and so he just came on in for a chat, too. He (consultant) seemed really great. He talked a lot about results from various recent studies, and talked about how good/otherwise those studies were, which meant I liked him immediately (I'm a scientist too and have enormous respect for Doctors who are read-up on the latest developments rather than simply following "protocol"). I'm being given asprin because I'm at risk of eclampsia (purely because of my renal issues).
And after all that I went off to have bloods taken -- all the usual ones plus some extra to look at renal function. I've got my scan date - 2nd Jan - where they'll also have a specialist scan my kidneys to see what the status quo is. I'll get confirmation of the date in the post, but the midwife phoned up while I was in the room so it should be correct!
I'm seeing my urologist too in a couple of weeks, and he's keen to "monitor me obsessively" until delivery.
So while I'm obviously not thrilled at this being a risky pregnancy, it's really lovely that they're doing such a thorough job of looking after me and munchkin. All free at the point of access - I love the NHS!
Something I wasn't expecting/didn't know: I've been advised to take a vitamin D supplement as well as folic acid. I'm very fair and it turns our Rickets is on the rise and so the midwife recommended I take a vit D supplement. Hmmm. I'll do as I'm told, I suppose!
Anyway, that's about all from me. My nausea seems to have dissipated a bit today and last night. But overnight I had the most awful tummy pain and sickness (wind, I think). I was crying out it was so painful, and OH had to come and rub my tummy/back. It felt like appendicitis all over again! But it only lasted 30 mins or so and has gone now. So hopefully it won't return!
Hope you're all doing well, ladies!

Morning all
Bumblebee, I had my booking in appointment yesterday too! I have also been referred to a consultant as my second baby was huge so I am a high risk of shoulder dystocia. I know it's slightly different as you have met the consultant already but do you have any idea when to expect to see the consultant for an appointment? Also very jealous that you have your scan date :-P
So there goes my hope of a nice water birth in the midwife led unit!!!
Hope everyone is having a good day, roll on the 2nd trimester when the nausea (should!) subside!!!0 -
Preggosaurus - yep, they've arranged for me to see my consultant for an appointment a few days after the first scan. They arranged it then because they should have all the results (scans on munchkin and me, bloods, urologist opinion) they need to make a decision about how to manage me/munchkin. So perhaps when yours will be depends on when they'll have the information, or need to act? Mine's being called an "early consultant review", if that makes any difference?
Hope you get your scan date soon! I might have been "lucky" because they had to arrange for me to have my bladder/kidneys scanned at the same time - so maybe that pushed through the request?

Thanks bumblebee. I guess I will have to just wait and see when I get a letter. Glad they are giving you really great care, I'm just a bit impatient as the midwife mentioned that there may be a chance that they will want me to have a c-section, and I guess is like to prepare myself ASAP if that's a real possibility.
Firey - hope your work gets their act together, that's very unfair.

I'm seeing a consultant as mine is classed as high risk too but she told me not to expect an appointment until after my 20 week scan0

Thanks Firey, I guess I will have to learn a bit of patience! The midwife didn't really have any idea when they would want to see me, it's good to know it can vary a lot!0

Cant believe how close to the top of the list I am - going to stay here till my scan next Tuesday (12 weeks today - 12+6 on scan day) as i think my dates could be out by a week or more.....0

Hi ladies!
Firey your work are totally in the wrong. Pregnancy related illness cannot be used for either a trigger or a disciplinary, if they do send you that letter you can take legal action against them, I think it falls under sex discrimination. My work have been lovely about my 2 absences for bleeding, but if they had reacted the way your boss had I'd be raising a grievance.
Preggosaurus I'm also a high-risk pregnancy due to complications in my first pregnancy. They've told me I can't have a waterbirth too and I will have to see the consultant from 20 weeks onwards. I've been told I will have to monitored the whole labour but if the same complications don't arise this time (and I'd know in advance of labour) I'm going to see if they will change their mind about the waterbirth. Otherwise I'll have to have an epidural as I have zero pain tolerance!
Bumblebee sorry to hear you have extra health complications, it's good that they're taking good care of you already.
Claretsgirl glad you're feeling well. I'm 9 weeks and other than the bleeding, I don't have too many symptoms, occasionally nausea but it's nowhere near as bad as my first pregnancy, and my boobs hate the cold but other than that I'm surprised I feel quite OK this time round.
Good luck with your scans this week sunshine and moonbabe
9 weeks today for mexx

Still no scan letter
but I did get my prescriptions certificate card today
I am considered high risk (high BMI + on depression meds), and at my 2nd booking appointment she rang the consultant office so that's booked for 23 Dec! I really hope the scan is before then. Please forgive the badly spelt alias... I am a long time contributor who needed to reclaim anonymity for health/job related posts.0
