AquamarineMonkey wrote: »Mrs T M - they were very thorough checking everything for me, they had all sorts of forms and sheets to refer to with regards to all the extra appointments and supplements that I'll need. I don't know if it's a combination of my height and weight that means I have to take the extra folic acid- I'm 166cm. Not sure if height makes any difference as to whether I have to have extra when combined with my weight. The midwife I saw seemed very clued up about everything. Maybe it's because I've put 7kg on already so they're expecting my BMI to go even higher?
Oh, I forgot, they also made me take a carbon monoxide test. As a non-smoker I should have got a reading of less than 5, but I got 6 so I have to do that again next time I'm there and if it's still high I get reffered somewhere. We have a carbon monoxide monitor at home, but I was at work all morning so not sure why I got a high reading - could have been car fumes when I drove to the appointment.
I had lost 1 kg in 4 weeks, so that may have been why. I'm 161cm on my chart, but most places I'm 159cm! I think I'm somewhere around 120kg at the moment, I was 125 when I first reported to them I was pregnant, and 124 at the booking in appointment 2 1/2 weeks ago.
I had to do the CO test as well. Scored a 2. She said 'wow, you can definitely tell you're not a smoker!' when I was still blowing hard when the thingie beeped! :rotfl:
I'm also seeing a health trainer (not really associated with the pregnancy) and she's helping me maintain my weight or lose a bit in a healthy way during the pregnancy. Knowing I report to her for 5 more months (I think) really makes me get my walking in and trying to eat better. She's a mum and a grandmother, so she definitely understands that sometimes during pregnancy, you just cannot eat, or you have to eat what you can, when you can. She will be happy that we now have a big bag of frozen mixed veggies and chicken breasts to eat!
I'm really hoping that I feel well enough (read that as 'get more stinking energy') soon so that I can go back to doing batch cooking. Was so much easier to not worry about what we were having for dinner that night, nor what DH could take for his lunch! I also really want to make a full batch of tortillas (makes about 50-60), but I really do not have the energy to get through that many before the dough goes funky. I'm looking into getting a tortilla press though, so maybe I'll be able to make tortillas quicker than rolling them out with the rolling pin soon.
Carrie1982 - I've never heard of them trying to find the hb with a doppler before 16 weeks before!0 -
Hi all,
Not posted much lately - just busy but I still read this thread everyday. Hope you're all doing well this evening.
Many congratulations to Lara on finishing your PhD thesis. Have you submitted it yet? I remember when the time came to hand mine in (in 2008) that I got very nervous and refused to submit - so don't do the same as I did - let it go! I'm sure your supervisors will help with viva preparation, but do feel free to ask anything about mine. I know it's pretty stressful. It's also a little bit like a pregnancy -- every one is a bit different and you're not really sure what to expect!
AFM, my sickness seems to be fading away. Which of course has me worried that something might be wrong (I'm only 7 weeks so seems a bit early for it to disappear). It's my first pregnancy so not sure what to expect, really. I've had pretty horrible sickness and pelvic pain since before I was able to do a test - but no bleeding or anything (other than pain) to suggest that something might be awry. I've got some cyclizine from the GP for sickness and nausea which I have on prescription anyway (for something else). I asked if it was okay to take for morning sickness when I first told my GP I was expecting and she said it's one of their top choices so I should go ahead and take it. I've been taking that a bit more often recently (I was resistant at first - terrified it was teratogenic), so perhaps it's really working! I'm trying to stay positive and enjoy the respite -- maybe the sickness will come back to bite me in a few days time! Gee - it's hard to shake the worry though, isn't it! I'll mention the pain at my booking-in (Tues) and see what they say.
I've received my booking-in appointment letter now, where it clearly says that there will NOT be a scan. So I expect the chap on the phone who arranged the appointment just got this wrong. A bit disappointed that I won't get to see that the little munchkin's okay - but I guess that's the procedure!
Anyway, that's all from me for the mo. Hope you're all keeping well, and have a good evening.

Hi folks, hope you're all feeling ok.
We're finally moving house tomorrow, which is really daunting. I'm still really achy, and packing & shifting boxes probably doesn't help
Someone was asking about supplements - I'm sure I read somewhere not to take additional vitamin e supplements. Comparing my pregnancy vits with the normal ones there is much less vitamin e in there.
Relurking, posting on a phone is a bit of a painOther opinions are available.0 -
I think I'm going to ban DH from eating the garlic and herb chicken thighs from Sainsbury's... Could smell garlic really badly when he got home, so he brushed his teeth before dinner and took a shower before bed. Now that he's asleep, I can smell it, and I think it's coming through his sweat! Nearly made me sick in our bedroom, so I'm back downstairs for a bit to try and get my tummy calmed down. I have a really bad feeling that I'll be sleeping in the spare bed tonight.0

It's been all quiet round here!
Just sat here sewing trying to chill out, the closer I get to my 12 week scan the more worried and teary and stressed I'm becoming. I just want to go to sleep and wake up next Thursday....0 -
Hugs Sunshinetry not to get too stressed, I'm sure everything will be fine. I know it's easier said than done, such a worrying time, isn't it?
I've just been quiet cause the spitting seems to have cleared up (crosses fingers hard) for the last week and I'm frightened that if I say it out loud it'll come back0 -
Morning ladies.
Nothing really going on here except bed juggling to see which one I can sleep in without hurting my back or hips and waiting on my scan.
Hope that everyone has a good, even if it's a chilly, day!0 -
Good morning Mrs TM. Sorry to hear you are not sleeping comfortably. How is the sickness today?
I have a scan date! I was supposed to wait for a letter to arrive next week, but I got lucky as the hospital called me to check some details and she told me the dateIt will be 10 December when I'm 12+1.
Sunshine - It is a stressful time. I am just counting down the days to the scan as well. Some days I feel more stressed than others. I am glad its such as busy time of year and I'm hoping Christmas shopping etc will keep me occupied and the next 2 weeks will fly.0 -

The sickness is better, but I woke up at 6 am hungry/nauseated, ate most of a banana and sipped a bit of water and was able to fall back asleep for 15 minutes before the alarm went off at 7. I'm trying to keep nibbling on things and to stay awake more, but I'm sooooo tired! When I sleep, I go for too long without eating I've found, which makes me nauseated and grumpy. I've started taking snacks upstairs when we go to bed!Same scan date as mei'll be 12 + 5 on 10th
Same scan date as me! Woo! I'll be 12+3 that day. At least we can be scan date buddies for a bit. :j0
