That's brilliant news moonbabe! I had the same problem with a full bladder so asked if I could have 1/2 a wee whilst I was waiting - they agreed, then halfway through the scan the midwife said my bladder was too full and I had to go again for another 1/2 wee haha!
    :)
  • Great news moonbabe, glad to hear it went well :)

  • devildolly - my booking in apointment was today at 8 weeks, looking at the form they gave me some places must split this in 2 halves at 8 weeks and the other half at 10 weeks, my midwife just did an hour long appointment and did everything in one go, so my next appointment will be the scan between 12 and 14 weeks. They now recommend you take Vitamin D as well as folic acid, I'm taking the Pregnacare supplements, which contain them both.

    congratulations and welcome Carrie!

claretsgirl hope the cold eases soon, it's no fun at the best of times but even worse when you can't really take anything to ease the symptoms!

Kitty - We've told both our mum's, and some close friends as these would be the people we'd tell if anything went wrong anyway. I've also told my line manager at work, and one of my colleagues who will cover my work when I'm at appointments or in the event I don't feel well enough to come in. My HR department now also know because I had a day off last week when I had some bleeding and had a scan at the EPU, so it was written on my return to work form. At this rate there won't be many people left to tell after the 12 week scan. This is my 2nd though so I'm a bit more relaxed about telling people. The rest of our families we'll be telling at Xmas even though we probably won't have had the 12 week scan by then, then the rest of our friends and my colleagues we'll tell after the scan.

moonbabe - glad the bleeding was nothing to worry about and that all was well with scan!

Just back from my booking in appointment. Had to provide a urine sample and have some bloods taken.
I'm being treated as high risk due to the complications in my previous pregnancy and the midwife has said I will not be allowed a waterbirth as I will have to be monitored the entire labour like last time :(
Because of the complications last time I'm going to have to have combined midwive and consultant care, so will have to have extra hospital appointments with a consultant as well as the usual ones with the midwife at the surgery.
I was weighed and have put on so much weight already, I've now got a BMI of 40 so I'm also being referred to the Bariatric Clinic and will have the pleasure of having a GTT. I also might have to have extra growth scans - but to me that's a good thing as it means I get to see baby more often.
Because of my high BMI I'm going to have to take extra folic acid which will be prescribed by the doctor. Taking my blood was fun as most of my veins seems to be hidden. The midwife's assistant tried first time in one arm, the needle went in but failed to get any blood, so the midwife tried the other arm and did manage to get some.
The hospital will contact me about the scan - she said I should hear from them what date the scan will be in about 2 weeks time.

8 weeks today - can't believe I'm a 5th of the way through my pregnancy already! The nausea's not too bad at the moment, it's worse in the evenings and I still feel sick until I eat in a morning or if I get hungry. I was expecting it to get worse this week, but so far so good!

Aquamarine - My BMI is 47 (well, was, it's probably less now) at my booking appt, and they said that the 400 mg folic acid was plenty for me and didn't recommend taking a vitamin D tablet.

    Great news Moonbabe :)

Sorry you're having the hassle of extra monitoring Aqua :(, but as you say some good opportunities to see your little one.

10 weeks today, but I'm a bit worried as all my symptoms have gone apart from weeing and a very slight sickness in the morning. I hope everything is okay in there!

I finally finished my PhD thesis today :j

  • Congrats on the PhD lara, and everyone for good scans. Thanks for the info aquaMarine, really useful. My bmi is around 37, so interested to hear how you get on.
  • Well done on finishing your PHD thesis Lara - so will you be Dr Lara by the time baby comes? I don't so much mind having the extra appointments - work have to allow me paid time off and travel time to them, so I won't lose anything by going, and also it will be reassuring for me to be monitored closely throughout as first time round I remember thinking that you don't really get that many appoitnments so how do they know everything is still OK - and I got extra scans and appointments than standard with DS towards the end due to being high risk.

Mrs T M - they were very thorough checking everything for me, they had all sorts of forms and sheets to refer to with regards to all the extra appointments and supplements that I'll need. I don't know if it's a combination of my height and weight that means I have to take the extra folic acid- I'm 166cm. Not sure if height makes any difference as to whether I have to have extra when combined with my weight. The midwife I saw seemed very clued up about everything. Maybe it's because I've put 7kg on already so they're expecting my BMI to go even higher?

Oh, I forgot, they also made me take a carbon monoxide test. As a non-smoker I should have got a reading of less than 5, but I got 6 so I have to do that again next time I'm there and if it's still high I get reffered somewhere. We have a carbon monoxide monitor at home, but I was at work all morning so not sure why I got a high reading - could have been car fumes when I drove to the appointment.
  • Aquamarine - I had my booking appointment today too. No carbon monoxide test for me. I did have blood taken and lots of paperwork.

The midwife tried to find the heartbeat with the doppler but couldnt find it. She told me its very early so I shouldn't worry. Anyone else have this at 10 weeks?

Lara - I am 10 weeks also and I haven't had any sickness at all yet, but my bloat has gone this week (I looked huge at 6-8 weeks!)
