Less than 12 weeks pregnant club! Part 3

It's a bit annoying FF, as the systems have just changed literally last month, so everyone is a bit unsure as to what is going on. I wouldn't worry apart from the holiday thing. Knowing my luck I would arrive home from 10 days hols to find I had missed both the letter and scan!
I'm 9+2 today (yay!) so I'll have to go to the GP on Monday and ask them to chase it. I hope they don't think it's diva behaviour. The other half of the booking appointment isn't until 17th December as the clinic is only Tuesday afternoons and they were busy, plus my holidays...
I'm just champing at the bit to get to 12 weeks nowso patience is not coming easily to me!

Mrs TM, that’s outrageous that they wrote that on your chart, good luck with getting them to see your side of things.
Welcome devildolly5 and congratulations, I’ve resisted the urge to get more pregnancy tests but will confess to having done a few ovulation sticks I had left over – apparently they show positive when you’re pregnant too.
Pleased the tooth is sorted Firey, hope it wasn’t too painful.0 -
Why not freak them out even further Mrs TM and say you want to give birth in a forest on a bed of moss with a Wise Woman looking after you and only chewing on tree bark for pain relief - they'll be positively pushing you into having a home birth after that!
I'll save this for my last push in the arsenal! You never fail to make me smile birdie!Surely that is not legal to write that on your chart!
The only thing I would say is that my friend has depression and she had to go to the Maternity Hospital and not the birthing unit which is Midwife led because of the tablets she takes. I am not sure what they are but they advised her the baby might be sleepy due to the tablets and they would want to monitor the baby for 48 hours - might be worth asking when you speak to a Midwife whether this one or a new one if that is anything to do with their thoughts/medical opinion. My friend suggested to stop taking them completely so she didn't have to go to the hospital but they said that would be bad for her as she has been managing well on these pills.
I can imagine this is very stressful for you. I really want a water birth and I will be really upset if I get to the delivery and there are not any free! But likewise if they advise I can't have one anyway due to something medical.
I think to write that on your chart is a bit off but maybe if you ask them to explain your reasons and they can explain yours you might get some relief. What a pain!
I'm on citalopram (I think that's how it's spelled) at 20 mg, which is what they switch women who discover they are pregnant over to. The GP has assured me that that medication at that dose will have no effect on the baby, it's only at the higher doses that it can become a problem.
I think it's mostly due to my weight. I absolutely hate being generalised due to my weight. One example, my former GP (who I switched from quickly) thought that I absolutely must have diabetes because I was so fat, but when my tests came back, he was really surprised and said 'You're healthier than I am!'
My whole family (both sides) are very overweight, and most of them are very healthy. My dad's mom had 7 babies (2 were twins) at home, and she was twice my size, so I know it's possible.
Doctors now are trained to prepare and treat for the worst, before it happens. I'm of the mind to prepare, but you'd best NOT treat me for something I do not have! That's one of the reasons I'm so against widespread use of antibiotics. They have their place and time, but not for every tiny little sniffle or sneeze. It's no wonder we have superbugs now....
My therapist (from earlier with the depression and anxiety) called today to check up on me and said that if I needed help coping/getting through the anxiety or if I just needed help fighting for a home birth, to let them know. She would be happy to write a letter explaining how going into hospital, unless absolutely necessary, would be detrimental to my mental health.
My birthing plan at the moment: Home birth if at all possible, water available - may not choose to use it, do not cut the cord until it stops pulsing, no antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, nothing in baby's eyes, no injections unless absolutely necessary, no blood drawn, and no intervention if at all possible. Other than that, I'm flexible. I also want to be allowed to be in whatever position I feel that I need to be in, not flat on my back.
I've written a post to the homebirth uk yahoo group asking what I can start doing now to ensure I at least get a chance at a home birth. I know that something may happen and I may absolutely need to go in to have the baby, but I want to know exactly when, why, what will be done, and that it's absolutely medically necessary and there are no other options.
I'm starting to look forward to speaking with the doctor (instead of the midwife) at my 16 week point. Maybe he/she will actually see reason and treat me better. My usual GP would probably support my decision to have a home birth! He explains how and why to me with everything he decides, lets me have input on everything including tests, and discusses it with me like an equal, not as if he's talking down to me. Because of this, I really really respect my GP.
If absolutely everything else fails, and I know for a fact nothing is wrong, I can just call in when I'm in labour and say that I cannot be moved and keep requesting a midwife. Kinda wish I could afford a doula, because I know my poor DH is going to be next to useless during labour and birth poor thing! Might end up having the midwife give HIM the gas and air! :rotfl:0 -

Mrs_T_M-this might seem like a daft question, but what does your bounty pack say on the outside? I didn't get anything like yours in mine, and it had the bounty book number 4, the outside of the pack says "Family pack" it had a fairy sample, decaff tea bags, a pocket pack of tissues, an ASDA baby blanket and a petit filous spoon. Thanks
Hope you ladies are all keeping well0 -

Just says that it's the 'Mum to be Pack"0 -
Which number bounty pack is that?
The first one I got from my midwife, mainly leaflets.
The 2nd one I went to boots but they were out of stock
The other place it said you could go was asda but that's too far for me to bother driving to.
Ooh just noticed it mentions super drug too!0 -
Glad you got your tooth fixed and that they did it for free firey.
claretsgirl my pregnancy symptoms come and go and as of yesterday my little bean was fine, so I think it must be normal. Every lady is different one of my friends is 20 weeks and has had no symptoms.
That's a shame that you don't think some people will take it well, why is that if you don't mind me asking?
welcome devildolly.
Mrs T M are you going to ask what they mean by medical history? At least if you know what their reasons for being against home birth are you can explain why those reasons aren't valid and you still want a homebirth. Do you think it could be the citalopram? I used to be on 40mg a day of citalopram and was told by the doctor that I must not get pregnant whilst I was taking it, so I waited until I felt well enough not to take it anymore before TTC. They didn't say why I mustn't get pregnant, and I was so low at the time I didn't think to ask, so I don't know if it was because of side effects for baby or if it was just that they didn't want me getting pregnant whilst I had severe depression and anxiety.
samtoby- I hope you get your waterbirth, all my friends that had them really recommend it. I want one too, but I don't know if I will be allowed with my medical history - I was high risk with DS so it was ruled out a few weeks before. I accepted their reasons and it turned out they were right as what they suspected may happen did happen during labour meaning I had to have an emergency c-section. But at least they gave me valid medical reasons as to why I wasn't allowed my waterbirth. I just hope this pregnancy is a bit easier and I get the chance to have one this time.
Lara I'm the same with eagerness to get a 12 week scan, I was gutted when I realised that 12 weeks would be Xmas day so they'd be only scanning 3 days that week and 4 the week after rather than the normal 5 so I'll probably be given a date after 12 weeks rather than on it or just before. I just wanted to know everything is OK. Although I would rather not have had the bleeding yesterday at least as a result it meant I got to see my bean's heartbeat, that has reassured me so I can probably wait until new year now if I have to. I found the scans to be the most exciting part of pregnancy last time.
The way I see it is that we can't see what's going on inside and the scans give us the opportunity to see that.
AFM, no more bleeding today :j so I went back to work. Nausea has come back with a vengance, think I will be spending most of the weekend on the couch feeling sorry for myself, I hate feeling sick. I remember being much worse than this with DS but I managed to keep working, I don't know how though, because I feel so rough right this minute that I can't imagine going in to work feeling this bad. It does seem to be worse at night though. I remember it getting particularly horrendous around the 8 week mark and having to spend a week in bed - as luck would have it I'd already booked a week's annual leave so I was able to do that. I've got no more leave to take this year, so I guess if it gets bad I'll just have to call in sick.
What are the rest of you ladies doing? Are you still going to work and running to the loos every few minutes or are you taking a few days off in the hope you feel better soon?
I was prescribed anti-sickness medication with DS as I was losing weight when I should have been putting it on, but I don't know if the medication contributed to my later complications so I'd rather not take any medication during pregnancy this time.
7+20 -
Mrs_T_M - you are the most organised person I know. I have two blankets for baby that MIL bought other than that and wanting a water birth I have not had anymore thoughts about the birth. Just to get through it again lol. I hope you have baby at home, with no complications and can middle finger to all those who said you could not have it/do it due to your health.
I am sure they say Homebirths are often the most relaxed because people are in their own surroundings - not sure how they monitor the baby though when your in the water because when I was having DS I had a monitor on my tummy the whole way checking his heart rate. - not sure why. (And do home Midwives have that kit?) At the end of the day Paramedics sometimes deliver babies all be it not expected!
Looking forward to seeing all you ladies on the next thread. Feel like a newbie over there now just like I did here. Time has gone fast since the 12 week scan. xx3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:
