  • dusty I'm NorthWest but further South than Manchester so in a different Health Authority.
I think because I thought I knew how far along I was they are making me wait til 8 weeks. I don't think they request the scan until after they see you - although I do know they are able to get scans at very short notice as I had to have an emergency scan at 38 weeks with DS which got arranged within hours for the next day.
They couldn't do the nuchal fold test with DS at 12 weeks because he was being awkward and refused to get into postion, so I had to have the blood tests (at I think 16 weeks).
I hope your spotting eases soon. I'm another one that had spotting with DS so whilst I wouldn't necessarily panic, I'd leave work and go to hospital. My line manager knows so I could tell her and go, but even if she didn't and I didn't want her to I'd just say I wasn't feeling well, had rang a doctor and been told to go straight to A&E. I've had no spotting so far this time round. Hope you went and got yourself checked out.

claretgirl I'm constantly shouting at OH at the moment, I think it must be hormones as the slightest thing he does wrong makes me really angry with him.

Good luck with your scans tomorrow Sophiasmum and Cllola.

We've been out for something to eat tonight as I didn't fancy the idea of chicken again (that's all OH seems to cook). It was lovely and I managed to eat it without problems despite feeling nauseous. Lord knows why they call it morning sickness, mine gets worse at night - not that it's much better during the day!

    Hi All,

Sorry been missing for a few days but I am absolutely shattered! I went back to France for the weekend and spent most of it sleeping on the sofa or in bed!

Welcome to all the new people and congratulations and lovely to hear everyone's scans have gone well.

In response to someone's question (can't remember who - thread has moved on a lot!) I work and stay in London during the week and travel back to France at the weekend. Ever since I found out I was pregnant, my husband and I have been planning on when I can switch and stay in France and he can work in UK We are lucky in that we run our own company and in theory either of us could work in UK but it just so happens that it seems to be my turn at the moment! But come February or March, I will be going back to France full time!

I have my first doctor's appointment this weekend and then will have to do blood tests the following week and then an appointment at the hospital with my consultant will probably follow soon after.

I was researching the amount of appointments you have in the UK as compared to France the other day. I had my first two children in UK (oldest is 11 and next is nearly 8, so a few years ago now) and I am pretty sure I had more appointments than what I found on the internet. It looks as though if this is your second baby, you only have about 5 or 6 midwife appointments - I am sure I had more than this! But maybe it has changed.

I was given the option of having my kids in a midwife led unit in my town or going to the big hospital in the nearby town. I opted for the big hospital as I am rubbish with pain and as it was my first I wanted to be in the big hospital in case anything went wrong. But after I had had my first, I was transferred back to the local unit for a few days and I must say the local unit was lovely. There were a few of us in at the same time, but it didn't feel overcrowded and the midwives always had plenty of time to help you!

I had my youngest two in France and there they don't really give you any option other than hospital for giving birth. Although not sure if I will actually make it to the hospital this time seeing as my labours have all gotten quicker with the last one being only three hours and that was really about half an hour longer than it should have been!

Oooh just remembered that someone on here normally has to have blood taken from their hands - is that because no one can find veins in your arms? I have this issue and even if they do find a vein, I normally bruise really badly.

Anyway must go and fall asleep again as that is all I do recently!
DD1 born May 2002, DD2 born Dec 2005, DS born Dec 2008. Baby due May 2010! TEAM PINK!!

Just a quick drop in to say good luck to sophiasmum and cllola today with their scans... bit nervous to see that I will be next! 15 days to go lol (and 6 til the midwife tries to draw blood, can't wait for the apple sized bruise NOT!)

Been waking up a few times a night for nothing this week, and long shifts and uni is taking it's toll, just want to curl up in bed but have to go and observe a functional maths class in preparation for me teaching in the new year! Our li'l HB better be OK and not putting me through all this for nothing!

    Have a good day y'all x

    Thanks sunshine and aqua...

Very nervous about today...I had a nightmare last night that when we got to the scan the sonographer told us our baby wasn't alive...completely irrational I know!! :-(

Scan at 11:10 then straight back to work (I work in the hospital) so
I will try and update when I can.

    Good luck soohiasmum!
  • Hi ladies. I've not posted for a few days. Been busy driving myself to distraction! :o

The spotting eased off yesterday but it's back again today. I called the EPU this morning and the said as it was still early there was nothing they could do, but to call them again if it got worse.

I've got my booking appointment for 10 December, when I'll be almost 9 weeks. I just hope I make it that far

Good luck cllola and sophiasmum for your scans.

Mrs_T_M - hope your ok. When you were mentioning about a Home Birth I thought I would mention I am going to look at Hypnobirthing or something like that. I didn't deal with the pain well the last time and I was hoping this might calm me down. Might be worth combining that with your home birth? xx

  • Good morning, Ladies.

    Thanks for the welcome.

Yes - I'm not sure whether my possibly very early scan (scheduled for about 8 weeks) will be because of my underlying condition or not. This is my first pregnancy so I'm not sure how things will work out. But with everything else, medics (apart from the specialist consultant) don't seem to know anything about it until I mention it to them, and then they usually turn to google to look it up! I do wonder if the chap on the phone who called to make the appointment just got it wrong and this is my "booking in" appointment and there will be a scan later. I'll wait for the letter I think, and hope that explains a bit more about what will happen.

I feel really awful today. Shakey and faint and sick and just really quite rotten! I'm trying to comfort myself with the thought that perhaps this means that my otherwise-high-miscarriage-likelihood is reduced and there's plenty of hormones to keep the little bean sticky. But it is hard battling this while at work...

Good luck to the ladies with scans today -- thinking of you!

Hellooooooo just came out of my scan...it's a baby!! It has a head and body and legs and everything!! And there's only one!

All looking good although they couldn't do the downs test because it wasn't in the right position so I'll just have the bloods at 16 weeks.

Baby was a little wriggler though, it's weird to see it jumping about on screen but not feeling anything. I'm 12+6 so due date 29th may.

So I'm off to the other thread but I will still be lurking!

Hope all is well with the scan Sophiasmum.

So long and thanks for all the fish xxx

    Morning ladies

Sorry to hear some of you are feeling pants :o - hope it eases off for you soon

fingers crossed for you wangdoodle, it;s a worrying time these early weeks isn't it?

    Congrats on the scan cllola

AFM, went to A+E last night, they took some bloods and then asked me to come back this morning for a scan. So i did. The worry was that my hormone levels in my blood test were too low for 6 weeks, but the scan says I'm about 4 weeks!

So there is a sac but they can't see if there's a happy baby in there just yet as it's too early. So i have to go back in 2 weeks for another scan when 'hopefully' they'll find a heartbeat.

I'm not too worried as this is eactly what happened with DS, it's just my fault for finding out too early and not knowing my dates properly! My AF's are not very regular so I'm really not sure how far I am, I may be 2 week behind what I thought which means an even longer wait for my 12 week scan :o. but good for work as means I'll hopefully get to hear whether they are taking me on permanently before I have to tell them I am PG. ;)

The spotting has got better too so fingers crossed all is well and there's just a very very young bean in there.
