sophiasmum - when are you planning on telling your parents etc? i told my mum on monday when I found out but daren't tell my dad cos he'd broadcast it all over Facebook!

i want to put off telling work for as long as possible, I'm on a 9 month contract here, due to finish in March but i have a feeling I might be made permanent. Relly hope they do that before they find out I'm pregnant ha! I'm 12 weeks on Dec 31st so was going to ask them about being made permanent first week in Jan and hope to get an answer, but we haev a posh awards ceremony on 15th Dec and I won't be drinking so I reckon they'll guess then.

REally don't know how we'll cope money wise if I'm finished in March :(

Chelseablue - I think you do have to have a full bladder :o

mysecretalias - I will attempt to breastfeed but I had a really rough time with DS1 so am trying not to put too much pressure on myself this time around. Would work out a lot cheaper for us though ;)

Urgh, am I being a crazy hormonal pregnant woman in getting upset that OH's mother is going picking out a moses basket or crib for us? It's my first child, and therefore would like to pick out my own moses basket, crib, cot pram etc! I'm all for parents being supportive and getting us stuff, she's bought a few vests and bibs already which I don't mind but I'm really adamant that we should be choosing that stuff! It's got me so wound up this morning!

    Afternoon all :-)

sophiasmum - i feel bad that my work colleagues and manager knows but not my family too but i see work people a lot more than family and as i am already showing and usually half zombified at my desk i figured they should know, i also want paid time off for appointments.

Dusty - re work do - could you tell them you are temporarily on some kind of medication that stops you being able to drink?

Chelseablue - Yep you need a full bladder as it pushes the uterus up so that baby is easy to see (i think) they press quite hard too which doesnt help! Ive tended to drink a bottle of water 20 mins before going in so that you arent full to bursting but there is something in there!

mysecretalias - how long are you planning to breastfeed for? I really wanted to breastfeed my son last time but gave up early as it got really tough and i dont feel that the support was there to helo me through the tough bit. My midwife just said give him formula if youre finding it too difficult. I wanted someone to tell me to carry on and help me through it and i was too scared to ask for help, will be different this time i hope. I think i will only have 6 months off work due to finances so will try and build up a supply of expressed milk to give baby when i go back to work.

Moonbabe58 - sorry you're feeling rubbish - my sickness is the evening kind too...Old wives tales would say that means we are having girls....

why would she do that sunshine81?

It should definitely be your choice, you need to decide if you want themes, specific colours etc - it can't be upto her to choose. Is it her first grandchild? She is probably just very excited. Maybe tactfully suggest that you decide the bigger stuff as you want to see the sex (if you do), themese, best comparisons etc before any of the big stuff i bought. Maybe suggest a trip to Mamas and Papas with ehr where you can point out the kind of things you like incase she wants to buiy anything in the future.

I was told it's a filling, not full bladder. your bladder will push your uterus up and make baby easier to see.
the instructions in my area is to empty your bladder an hour before your appointment then drink a pint of water and don't go again til afterwards

although word of advice - make sure you don't have to give a sample after the scan. i didn't know and after the anamoly scan i greatfully emptied my bladder and then spent the next half hour trying to fill it again to get a sample for the midwife lol

I don't think that's very fair, Sunshine. Did she ask you? Maybe you could suggest doing it together? Or else ask your OH to have a word, I'm sure he wants to be involved too.

My nausea has graduated to vomiting, oh no! Not sure which is worse.

    8 weeks today! :)

cllola - the old antibiotics trick :) - dead give away but I guess I'l have to. Xmas will be a nightmare, we have so much socialising planned, everyone will guess when I'm turning down the wine as that's not like me at all ha ha! I'm actually working at the awards and so it;s only the afterparty I have to avoid. Maybe I'll feign some sort of illness afterwards or tiredness, which I'll probably be anyway!

I'll prob have to take a short mat leave too if the work things doesn't work out, but I may have to go off for 3 months, already feel guilty seeing as DS had me all to himself for 10 months, plus I'll probably have to look for another job in those 3 months too rather than enjoy the time with the new bubs. So much to think about.
  • Hi all. Just popping in. I've been at work this morning and feel a bit tired now.
Can someone please tell me how to add myself to the list. I'm due 18 July so that makes me 4+4 today. I have my doctors appointment tomorrow so I will hopefully get referred on to the local maternity unit. No sickness yet! I'll give it three more weeks for that to kick in. Lol.
Lovely to see some familiar names here. Is everyone on their first or do some of you have other children?
    Love to all. X
  • Hi Claretsgirl - recognise you too from ttc :) Im on my 3rd - no real sickness to report! Only been sick twice....

Dustystar - Am planning to tell parents etc after Im had a scan next week. Will be 13 weeks then...For various reasons don't really want people knowing until Ive had a successful 12 week scan. Hope the job situation works itself out x

I breastfed my 2 for 6 months (mixing with formula with dd1 from 3 months) - and it is so.........much cheaper if you can manage it! I have been very lucky that I have found it easy (too easy - dd2 didn't want to stop!) but have had friends who struggled so I am aware how lucky Ive been.
