Oh and another thing about booking in...

I was a bit concerned that my midwife didnt do her own urine pregnancy test before starting the booking in process and taking bloods etc. Surely if someone wanted to make it up (munchausens etc) then that would be a very easy way to get some medical attention with no proof for actually needing it! (obviously they couldnt keep it up for too long though) Or am i just being cynical??

Lol I thought that when I went to my Doctors to tell them I was pregnant! I was sure the first thing she would do was a test, and when she didn't I said oh do you want a urine sample (I had been desperate to go for a wee for 45 minutes before my appointment and was holding it purposefully!) and she just casually went 'oh no, if you've done 2 home tests I don't need to do one, they're pretty reliable these days'

I was quite shocked and it did cross my mind at that point how much work was going into doing an urgent referal to the hospital etc etc and that I could simply be making it up (if I was that much of an odd case!)

Yeah it is a bit strange. I work for the NHS and know how strict they are about making sure everything is right before doing something, so sending somone off based only on their word for tests and investigations that probably costs hundreds of pounds in time and resources seems a little too trusting to me...Plus i kind of wanted a medical professional to confirm that they got the same result as me in case i had done it wrong...although i'm not sure there are many ways to wee on a stick!
  • I found it odd that they just take your word for it that you are pregnant!

At my hospital they ask for a donation of a few pounds for a photo.

My doctor took my word for it too when I said I was pregnant, it was the same with DS1 3 years ago. I'd done 6 tests by the time I saw the doctor, the line getting darker each time which is reassuring but I suppose anybody could go in and lie if they were seeking attention. I suppose they'd get found out at first bloods/urine with the midwife though.
The way it works in my area (nw) is that the midwives are based at the doctors practice and they request for the scan date so midwife appointments are done at the doctors and I only have to go to the hospital for scans.
We had to use £1 coins to get tickets from a machine to pay for the scan photos but I can't remember how much it was per ticket.

I'm feeling surprisingly ok at the moment. Getting the occasional pain in my abdomen but assume it's only stretching pains. I remember being in pain a lot with DS1. I keep waking in the night for a wee which is annoying. I'm much more tired than usual. I don't know how I'm going to cope working full time with a 2 hour each way commute (due to dropping DS1 off at the childminders in the opposite direction) once I'm heavily pregnant. I think I might have to take a days holiday each week towards the end so it's more like part-time!

I am getting short of breath but I'd put it down to being asthmatic and having had my flu jab last week.
  • Im that one person who managed to turn up for their scan without taking any money (mind you, I hadn't drunk enough water as well). The scanner asked for £3 - I said we didn't have any and she said not to tell anyone and gave us 3 pics for free :) She did comment that it didn't seem like I was on my 3rd baby!
Note to self - drink enough water and take £3.00 next week!
  • My dr also just took my word for it. Odd isn't it?

Gah! My parents visited me today to help with putting a shelf up and going to a warehouse sale for mum to choose fabric for her bday present. They were supposed to be being helpful but they were a nightmare.
At one point I said I just have to sit down as I was so exhausted I was panting, to which mum said "that's normal, just get on with it". Ok I'll get on with sitting down, not making myself so exhausted running around after you that I cant do anything later!
She's just so contradictory. Running around after her is Fine! But when I danced a little side-step to get out of the fabric mans way, to which he joked about us waltzing, she practically shouted at me to "be careful"!!! Grumble. Sorry for venting.
Please forgive the badly spelt alias... I am a long time contributor who needed to reclaim anonymity for health/job related posts.
  • I'm not breathless, but I have been extremely tired, to the point where I was sitting at work every afternoon nodding off and sleeping practically every evening and all weekend. I have found the last few days that's started to get better so I don't know if my body is beginning to adapt. No doubt as I get bigger and bigger I will get slowly more tired again!!

Really nervous....took the last of my anti sickness tablets earlier this afternoon. That means no more anti sickness pills for me. REALLY hoping this time the sickness will have got a little better and I can cope without a third course of tablets. Have been so moody the last few days as well - oh the joys of hormones!

I've had my flu jab already thankfully! Don't forget ladies....we have to have the whooping cough vaccine at a later stage also, but I don't know whether that's a jab or some other method. Think it's around the 30 week stage?

Ooh my other moan today as well (I'm on a roll today) is that despite my doctor signing my pregnancy prescription exemption form and sending it off FIVE weeks ago, I STILL haven't had it through the post!!! I went into the docs on my way home from work to moan at them so they advised me to fill out another which I have done and they're going to get the doc to sign it and send it off again.

Such a pain!! I really need to go to the dentist but I don't want to pay! Lol!

It isn't absolutely required, and I've chosen to not have it, since there is no definitive proof that immunity is passed to the infant. It's not the same vaccine that babies get, nor is it the same thing that they 'do in the States.'

If anyone has a peer reviewed journal article or two that states and proves otherwise, please let me know, and I may reconsider my position on it.

Mysecretalias the whooping cough is after 28 weeks and ideally before 32 weeks, but can be up to 38 weeks

I'll be having it as I feel that the potential benefits are worth having and there's no evidence of harm but that's my personal choice

I should have stated that I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from getting it, if it's right for you, then by all means have it! It just isn't right for us. :)
