  • Oh also, was interested to read about your guys holidays and festivals plans etc. we've booked 10 nights in malta starting 3rd June 2014. Now debating whether it'd be easier to go at 36 wks pregnant or change it for end of sept and go with an 8 week old., we're supposed to be getting married there June 2015.

I've known some of the ladies in the threads further up from the TTC board, and I like hearing news from them. Also, the big pregnancy thread is nice to ask questions in if you're wondering about something.

For example: I knew that I'd have a few extra appointments and a glucose tolerance test (with fizzy lucozade, icky!!!) because of my BMI, and I knew what the acronyms were that she was talking about (they will explain anything you don't understand though).

Each area is slightly different, so each appointment is slightly different. :)

Ah I see. Maybe I'll have a read of the Generic one, thanks. I'm not sure what my BMI is, but it must be high. I'm fat and fit lol! But had to stop my sport once we knew as its too dangerous (3 broken bones in the last 14months!)
Sorry for you having to go through the work stuff at the same time as baby stuff :( that sucks.

Tk maxx is really hit and miss with maternity stuff, the last time we went in they had loads, then Sod's law yesterday when we were actually looking specifically to buy something, they had nothing!!

Thanks. The hardest thing is not telling them. The process has been so drawn out its made me clinically depressed. I'm glad now to be leaving.... But who will hire a depressed pregnant lady who can't keep awake? (I've been asleep for the last 2 hrs!)

    Hello dustystar, welcome (back!) Congratulations!

  • Welcome dustystar.

Lovely scan pic vickyvics, looks like baby is an active one!

sunshine I used to be a total chocholic but all I want to eat at the moment is carbs and lots of them. I think I'm having a girl this time, not because of the carbs, but because I never got indigestion with DS1 and I have it all the time now (no doubt due to all the extra food I'm shovelling into my mouth and nothing to do with the sex of the baby).

Mrs T M I didn't realise they take bloods at the booking in appointment (I should know this as I've been pregnant before and remember having blood tests quite often). Did everyone else have bloods done at the booking in appt?
I've made my appointment for lunchtime on the 27th, but I always feel ill after having blood taken, so I'm not sure I'll be able to make it back into work in the afternoon. I suppose I'll have to learn not to be so mard.

I'm either 159cm or 162cm tall, depending on who measures me and I'm 124kg at the moment (was 129.8kg when I got pregnant, have lost that much so far) so my BMI is 48. Better than the 49.9 that it was when I first went to the doctor about my weight and trying to do something about it in April of this year. :)

I will admit, I had DH hold my hand and I told them 'do not tell me, just stick me!' since it's typically the anxiety that does it to me. :o

I have off centred veins anyway, which means to draw blood, they have to nearly hit my elbow! Oh, and only the one in my left arm 'works' for taking blood. The one in the right likes to roll away, hide, and finally, if poked, collapse!

Aquamarine I'm rubbish with all the terminology but if your booking in appointment is your first midwife appointment (where they go through all your medical history etc etc) then I had bloods taken as well as a urine sample at mine x

  • Welcome and congrats dustystar :)

I would probably rather go pregnant than with an 8 week old. But I have no reference point on either having an 8 week old or being 36 weeks pregnant so that's a pure guess for me!!! But do airlines even let you fly at 36 weeks? I might be tempted to push it forward (and go between 30-34 weeks ish) if you were able to. I'd be scared of going into early labour in a foreign country lol!

I didn't have bloods at my booking in appointment, was told they would do them at the 12 week and 20 week scan and only after that if they thought it was necessary.

Glad it isn't too often, I hate needles! Am booked in for my flu jab next week, going to have to be brave and go on my own!

  • Moonbabe I had my flu jab last Wednesday. It wasn't too bad and I have zero tolerance to pain. I had no after effects other than it was a bit sore to lie on the arm where the needle went in for a few days.

I hope I can get away with not having bloods taken at my booking in, I will be 8 weeks.

Dustystar personally I'd be too scared to fly anywhere so late in pregnancy - I wouldn't go further than an hour away from my hospital in the last few weeks! Different airlines have different policies as to how late they will let you fly. You might be ok going out at 36 weeks but I don't think many will let you fly at 37/38 weeks even with a doctors note.

Urgh, I've got to get a flu jab soon, hate needles. For whoever asked about booking in appointments, it must vary from area to area. I've had half of a booking in appointment at 8 weeks, that was just information taking/giving really, then I go back for the other half at 11 weeks when they take blood and urine etc x
