    Dear Non Pregnant Person,

I hope you find these guidelines helpful in your interactions with pregnant women as failing to follow them may result in serious physical harm. If you are thinking, "surely, she doesn't mean me!" the you should probably read this twice.

    1. The appropriate response to a couple telling you they are have a baby is "Congratulations!!" with enthusiasm. Any other response makes you an !!!.

    2. Through the wonders of science, we now that babies are made ONLY by the mother and the father. Unless the baby is in your uterus or you are the man that helped put it there, you may not EVER use the phrase "my baby".

    3. On the same note, unless you made the baby as defined in #2, the pregnancy, birth, and raising of the child are not about you. You do not have input. No one wants to hear your opinion unless they ask for it.

    4. The body of a pregnant woman should be treated the same as any other body. You would not randomly touch someone's stomach if they were not pregnant, nor would you inquire into the condition of their uterus, cervix or how they plan to use thier breasts. Pregnancy does not remove all traces of privacy from a woman.

    5. Likewise, no women wants to hear comments on her weight- EVER. A pregnant women does not find it flattering that you think she is about to pop, must be having twins, looks swollen or has gained weight in her face. Telling her she looks small only makes her worry that she is somehow starving her baby. Making such comments invite her to critique your physical appearance and you may not act offended. The only acceptable comment on appearance is "You look fabulous!"

    6. By the time we are 20-30 years old, most of us have picked up on the fact that the summer is hot. We are hot every summer even when we are not pregnant. We don't need you to point out that we will be miserbly hot before the baby comes.

    7. There is a reason that tickets to Labor and Delivery are not sold on ticketmaster. Childbirth is actually not a public event. It may sound crazy, but some women really do not relish the idea of their mother, MIL or a host of other family members seeing their bare butt and genitals. Also, some people simply feel like the birth of their child is a private and emotional moment to be shared only by the parents.

    8. Like everything else in life, unless you recieve an invitation, you are NOT invited. This includes doctor appointments, u/s, labor, delivery, the hospital and the parents home. You do not decide if you will be there for the birth or if you will move in with the new parents to 'help out'. If your assistance is desired, rest assured that you will be asked for it.

    9. If you ARE ASKED to help after the birth, this means you should clean up the house, help with cooking meals, and generally stay out of the way. Holding the baby more than the parents, interfering with BFing and sleeping schedules and making a woman who is still leaking fluid from multiple locations lift a finger in housework is NOT helping.

    10. The only people entitled to time with the baby are the parents. Whether they choose to have you at the hospital for the birth or ask for you to wait 3 weeks to visit, appreciate that you are being given the privilege of seeing THEIR child. Complainging or showing disappointment only encourages the parents to include you less.

If you follow these guidelines, we will continue to have a wonderful friendship.
Thank you and have a nice day!

Reading in my what to eat when preggo book and it says to limit yourself to 4 cans of tuna a week. 4 cans?! I'm lucky if I can manage to eat 1 per week!

I do like salmon though, and I have to limit myself to 1 serving per week. Blah. Guess that means I probably won't be buying a whole salmon right before Christmas again this year.

    *hugs*

I'm having a microwave 'baked' potato with just salt and pepper. I'm sleepy, but I know that if I don't eat before I nap I'll regret it. :(

Aww no I've got grim nausea at the moment compounded with IBS-D. I have so many revisions to do on my thesis before the end of November too :(

I went to the Dr today to get referred for mw booking in appointment, and she's sent me for an early scan this afternoon to check the pg is not ectopic, because I have a sore tummy (probably from IBS). I'm dreading it, gutted.

Everything feels so out of control at the moment :(

Oh Lara44 - Sounds like a nightmare. I am writing my 2nd essay and its really hard - And you are doing a Phd!!! I just know all the stuff just don't know how to put it on paper. Just think where you will be by the end of November to ease the meh of it all. The sickness is so difficult. I am literally eating constantly to keep it away today. Otherwise I will be in trouble.

Mrs_T_M - Interesting choice! I would nap if I had the chance. That is half the issue with me. I am not sleeping well so it makes the sickness worse. How I didn't vomit in OH's car last night is a mystery I just had to keep swallowing because it was coming up so much.

I would love to brush my teeth properly. Figured it can wait but it might help with the taste in my mouth if I could do it. Last time I really brushed them properly was at least a couple of weeks ago. I can only manage less than 30 seconds. Yuk!

As long as the baby is ok. I really don't care!

Lara I hope everything is ok. I know me saying that has no effect on what actually happens but I have ibs too & this time I had diarrhea for 2 weeks as soon as I got my bfp followed by horrible pains in my tummy at night & bloating, which I still sometimes get now.

I think having your intestines squashed up is not a great feeling for those of us with ibs!

Last year I had a horrendous stomach ache which I actually think might have been food poisoning (the night before getting on 3 flights back from holiday....!) and I was lying in the bed googling ectopic but from what I read the pain from that sounded even worse, so if you have a feeling it's ibs, hopefully that's probably what it is.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had a lovely neat bump. Just before I went on mat leave, so I'd have been around 34-35 weeks pregnant, so really obviously pregnant, I bumped into a girl in the toilets at work who I didn't work with directly but I knew and she said 'sorry for asking, but you *are* pregnant, aren't you?' I just looked at her and said 'well, I hope so!'

I remember with my son about 4 years ago when i was several days overdue, the size of a house and thoroughly uncomfortable poeple kept asking me "have you not had the baby yet?" It was a red rag to a bull, i felt like saying "yes i have but i popped him back in for a little nap"

Big gentle hugs to those suffering with the sickiness. I found sucking on something minty like polos helped with the taste and sicky feeling but then everyone is different (also helps feel a bit better about not being able to brush teeth properly)
