I didn't have screening with any of my others but I thought it was best to have it this time given I am old and crusty and I have the other children and their needs to consider. My results came about 5 minutes ago 1 : 2300 which is fine but I am fully aware there is that 1 in there that may yet be a surprise.

I also decided I would want to know firstly so I could decide whether or not to continue, second so services could be in place for when baby arrived so stuff like cardiology referrals etc could be organised straight away and finally because my other children would need to be prepared for the arrival of someone they might one day end up taking responsibility for.

Does anyone else here suffer with anxiety/panic attacks? I used to suffer badly but not had one for months. The last few days I have felt really anxious and panicky. Is it the hormones do you think?
I am sitting here on my own getting more and more anxious - maybe I am going crazy!

Hi Abi - good to see you back here again, I think it is your turn to be lucky this time. I'm 11weeks today - the first few weeks crawled but the last few have flown. I've had a fair few private scans to put my mind at ease - expensive but better than worrying. Besides I found somewhere that does them for £45 which is pretty good, so that's kind of eased the cost a bit as a lot of places are around the £100 mark.

I'm really undecided on whether to have the nuchal scan, what do people think ? (of the test, I know no one can make my mind up for me) For my age group there is a 1/300 chance of downs which is pretty low really, but 1/30 women have a positive nuchal test which means a 90% false positive rate if my maths is right?

I didn't have one with DS and he was fine.

I'm thinking I'll just chance it. We chance lots of things in life , usually because there's no other alternative, and the vast vast majority are ok.

Besides apparantly 15% of downs babies are not picked up by the test anyway.

I think it might just be really stressful if I got a false positive, and then had to have the test than can cause mc, plus all the waiting and worrying etc.

Interested if other people have decided what to do.

It depends really if the result would make a difference to your choices. Personally for me if it did come back high risk I would have an amnio and take it from there so I have opted to have it.

Im not sure about your area but in mine they dont look at the nuchal scan results in isolation, they do a quad test with bloods so look at a number of factors combined to give a result.

Of course as pigpen said the risk could be less than 1 in 10000 but that means nontheless there will still be one so its not perfect, but it gives you an idea.

We have had it each time and will decide what to do if and when the results come back. I think it is more a heads up so we can plan things although as people have said someone has to be that 1

Abis - fab to see you on here, and best wishes for this one being a super sticky :)

Lemon and Kitten - so pleased your scans went well

LilyMay - :j for rising HCG levels and hope all goes well at the scan on Monday

TTC40 - glad the holiday is going ok and nobody has sussed the not drinking yet! I found my belly expanded rapidly between about 6 and 9 weeks, but it was just bloating! The proper bump arrived after about 10/11 weeks I think

And big hello  to others I know from ttc thread!

Abis, great to see you here. Feel quite pleased to have got a BFP at the same time as you :) Fingers crossed you get an early scan, but if you have to go private I would suggest fudging your dates a little bit as nowhere near me will scan until you are past 7 weeks. It's only the hospital who do it from 6.

    I think I'm 5+1 today. Yay :)

11+5 today been to the hospital to book in my bloods all came back as they should though not quite sure how i managed to have normal iron levels though.
Managed to end up with Midwife led care woohoo so i dont have to traipse back and forth to hospital all the time just local clinic.
Next apt on the 9th of april with the midwife.
Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait
  • big hugs ncsmummy

    Hi all, how's everyone doing?

Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy book? I've had a quick look online but there are so many I'm not sure where to start!

Got my meeting with the midwife on 2nd April to do my pregnancy notes before my booking appointment and scan on the 10th. I'm assuming they'll take blood at the booking appointment rather than on the home visit?

    Hope everyone is well :)
