Great to see you here Abis. Hope the next 8 weeks are dull!

7+3 for me & feeling a bit rubbish.

Had a headache since yesterday morning, just seems to be going now. Have had 4 paracetamol - although I usually take ibuprofen.

Tummy seems to be expanding too - although maybe I'm just being fed too well in the chalet & not skiing it off! Doing some walking each day.

Midwife on Monday for first appt and then private scan on Wednesday.

When we saw FS last week he said that he would put me down for his NHS antenatal clinic at the local hospital so I need to tell the MW she doesn't have to do that. How often am I likely to go there?

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

P.s. no one has noticed I'm not drinking yet! Out for a meal tonight so think I will 'officially' have to not drink as it will be difficult to hide in a restaurant.

Had to take the day off work after starting back last week, had an awful day yesterday and just don't feel up to it. Plus it's really embarrassing being sick all the time in the loos, doesn't help that I'm a really loud sicker. People look at me when I come out like I'm a leper, can't blame them really if they think its a bug.

Just under 2 weeks till my scan really excited (and a little nervous!).

Hope nobody's feeling too dreadful, and congratulations to all recentBFPs, wishing you an uneventful 8 months!

My tum started expanding rapidly at 6 weeks, but at ten weeks its actually smaller because of the sickness and not eating drinking well. I think if you're lucky and don't get too sick you retain a lot of water so 'show' a lot quicker.

Had bad sickness with DS2 and wasn't so big until later in pregnancy, but then he turned into what can only be described as a beach ball!
  • Abi! :j So happy to see you across here, great to know your lines are getting darker too. Do you think it would put your mind at ease to go for a blood test at the GP so you can see your levels are rising normally? I'm sure with your history they would be more than happy to and it might be easier to see the numbers than squint at a line? Fingers and toes crossed for a long, boring pregnancy anyway :-)

TTC, glad your holibob is still good and nobody has called you out yet! Enjoy the relaxing :-)

I booked my midwife appointment for a week today (should be 10 weeks then) and my scan appointment for just before 13 weeks, somehow its made me feel better that it's a bit further away so I don't have to worry for a while.

Amus, definitely understand that, I haven't been too bad this time but last pregnancy I was incredibly sick at work, in the street, behind various hedges and walls and lamp posts, in the supermarket, in a stranger's garden! ugh it was horrid and people looked at me like I was drunk or something! hope you're feeling loads better soon, taking time off is the right thing to do, you need to put yourself and baby first.

    Thanks Trina :D

Thank you TTC :D I think I would maybe play up on the headache a little more with the meal tonight? I wouldn't drink with a bad headache as dehydration might make it worse and you don't want a hangover and a headache. With your first baby you get more midwife/antenatal appointments than with future pegnancies (unless you are higher risk / a problem is detected). Normally you have a booking in appt (around 10 ish weeks depending on where you live) a scan at around 12 weeks (no midwife appt with this) a midwife appt at 15-16 weeks and then I can't remember after then :D

Amus - I had awful sickness one time, and I carried plastic sandwich bags with me so I could chunder wherever I needed to :o I hated it tho, it was really embarassing. It reminded me of when I was 15 and sick right outside my classroom at school and everyone pointed and stared :o Am sure work would rather you were resting at home and well.

Lemon - I thought about going for blood tests, but time will tell realy won't it :o I have it in my mind that I sort of need to get through this weekend with no bleeding etc and then it might be ok :o I said to DH this morning that at least I aren't worried about it being another molar pregnancy which I would have worried about if the lines darkened too fast! So I can't win really can I?! :o I decided if on monday things are still going ok I will try n get registered with the midwife as I will need referring for an early scan. I go away for a week just after easter, so ideally I would like the scan before then. Its my mums 60th birthday and all the family are sharing a big farmhouse with a hot tub etc, which obv if I am pregnant still I won't be able to use and I won't be drinking etc. It'd be so nice to have a scan before then to be able to show people if it is ok. I think I will pay for a private one if I can't get referred for one (but the molar clinic said they would refer me if I was struggling, so hopefully it won't be an issue)

Glad you have booked in yr appt and scan tho - exciting stuff :D Hows the business going now? I was telling my DD about your scan yesterday and saying you were a bit scared (just like I would be if/when I get to that stage) - and she said this morning how did Lemon's thing go yesterday? Shes given me a special bracelet today to wear 'just in case I might get a baby coming in to my tummy soon'. Very sweet she is, but obv this time I won't be telling her til after a scan :o

I'd go with the medication you've taken for a migraine ;) and you just get a poorly tummy if you drink while taking it. Alcohol also dehydrates you so will make a headache worse.

You could always have 1 glass and hug it all night and foist it on hubby when the others are too busy eating/chatting to notice.

Hi Abi - good to see you back here again, I think it is your turn to be lucky this time. I'm 11weeks today - the first few weeks crawled but the last few have flown. I've had a fair few private scans to put my mind at ease - expensive but better than worrying. Besides I found somewhere that does them for £45 which is pretty good, so that's kind of eased the cost a bit as a lot of places are around the £100 mark.

I'm really undecided on whether to have the nuchal scan, what do people think ? (of the test, I know no one can make my mind up for me) For my age group there is a 1/300 chance of downs which is pretty low really, but 1/30 women have a positive nuchal test which means a 90% false positive rate if my maths is right?

I didn't have one with DS and he was fine.

I'm thinking I'll just chance it. We chance lots of things in life , usually because there's no other alternative, and the vast vast majority are ok.

Besides apparantly 15% of downs babies are not picked up by the test anyway.

I think it might just be really stressful if I got a false positive, and then had to have the test than can cause mc, plus all the waiting and worrying etc.

Interested if other people have decided what to do.
