  • I am rhesus Negative and have anti D injections at 28 and 34 wks (i think its 34 wks not 100% could be 32) and after baby is born. Doesnt matter with the first baby but is important in further pregnancies. Your blood will be tested for the Rhesus factor when you book in. If you bleed after 12 wk then you will need extra anti d injections and extra blood tests to make sure your body isnt making anti bodies.
Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait

Family history of heart attacks, stillbirths, depression, any childhood illnesses. As long as you have been together for a while they are quite easy questions to answer. I haven't taken OH to any of my bookings except the first as there really is no need. Prefer him to get time off for the scans.

Thanks - I do know DH quite well (fortunately!) but I've asked him to have his phone handy on the day in case there is anything that crops up. He's recently started a new job and doesn't want to push it with asking for time off, so he's manly aiming for scans (which suits my excited mother very well as she gets to come to the other appointments!).

We have told our immediate families. It didn't seem right for my boss to know but not my sister (who works in the same company). Also I'm so bloated at the moment (8w+6)that I look pregnant already. My zumba instructor gave me a quizzical look last week and my mum said "Oh i can see why you told us now - can't hide that any more". I know it isn't a bump (can't be) so I wish people would stop pointing it out!
Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP
(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)

COMP - Booking in appointments are just your midwifes first opportunity to write down all relevant clinical history to identify whether or not you will be a high or low risk pregnancy. I have never had any bloods taken at home and as far as I know that would be quite unusual. You don't need OH there and if you take him they usually ask him to leave at some point so the midwife can ask you questions about domestic violence etc.

Lemon - So pleased your scan went well. Brilliant news :) I'm looking forward to (hopefully) confirming that this pregnancy is a uterine one on Monday.

Hope everyone else is feeling okay.

COMP my mum said yesterday "you won't be able to hide that belly for long!" Charming ! Long cardy it is then. Still less than two weeks now til the big announcement. Focusing on that has kept the tears at bay during the pain of the past week :) Bosses at work have been told as I've been off sick and pregnancy is reason my immune system is reduced allowing shingles to affect me. Nobody i actually work with know though.

We haven't told any of OH's family and only my mum knows in mine. two reasons- scan is on DHs birthday so nice to announce it then. Also last time we told siblings and parents earlier but asked them not to tell nieces and nephews til after the scan. DH's sibling ignored this and told kids the same day- so this time they don't find out until everyone does.

My brother did that Fluffysox, I didn't actually tell him at all, my big mouth mum blabbed it when I was only 5 weeks, next thing I know he's asking my niece who's 5 whether she wants a boy or girl cousin..... very annoying when its so early on. At least it sounds like your mum knows how to keep a secret!

Congrats lemonmelon, must be a big relief!

Back to the o rhesus - is it a good idea for our OHs to get checked? I only ask because I am o negative and wondered if my hubs is too then there's no need for the injection? Just wondering!

As someone who is rhesus negative and it turns out my DS is rhesus positive I had the Anti-D jabs before and after the birth. The fathers don't get tested for anything- I did ask if they could test if he was Rhesus positive to share the needles but its not the procedure apparently. I have a suspicion that they don't bother with this in case the dad is not the biological father? Their argument is that 3/4 of people are rhesus positive so your better safe than sorry having the jabs. Bad news is they hurt more than any other jab you get during pregnancy. Still its over in seconds :)

Have you ever had the steroid injections they give to mature a premature babies lungs? That was more painful than any procedure I have ever had and it takes a good minute each time they do them!
