but if the NT/bloods came back low risk you save the £750.. if it comes back high you opt to have the £750 test.. surely that makes mroe sense?

    Is my summarised point.

at my age the risk is 1 : 110 yet at 19 I miscarried a baby with Downs. age means nothing. My bloods/NT came back with a result of 1 : 2300

Yes maybe I'll do that Pigpen. with a 3% chance of coming back high risk, that's a 3% chance of losing £750 versus a 0.3% chance of actually having downs. Its just the thought of it all! But I know if I did have a baby with downs I would prob wish I'd terminated hard though that would be.

At least if I have the expensive test they can find out the sex of the baby very early, as they test its DNA that is circulating in the maternal bloodstream. I suppose for £750 I'd expect a little something more for my money!

Its a really controversial subject this one - but yes, for me, its the false postives that come back that will stop me having the triple test. Perhaps, if I was offered the nuchal scan I would go for that ( my area doesnt offer it- its bloods only). I would welcome them looking at more than my blood! But coming back high risk off bloods only was such a frightening experience (I admit - on my last pregnancy I hadnt done any preperation for having the test and didnt know a lot about it)that I wouldnt wish it on anybody. I found it helped to put it into percentage chance when I came back high risk (as it made it look smaller!) so I was 1 in 65 so that was 1.5% chance! To have the test (bloods) would help those ladies on here who want to know every detail about their pregnancy and feel they can then prepare for every possibility but dont go in blindly just thinking all will be fine - there are a high number of false positives.

Interesting discussion about the tests. I haven't really given much thought but assuming with my age I would be fairly high risk.

I wouldn't terminate even if they said it was a downs baby so won't be doing anything invasive.

I assume the midwife will discuss the options available on Monday.

Last day of my not-skiing holiday. Sitting in the chalet looking at blue skies & snow - although it was -11 at 7.30am so it could be cold out there!

Everyone was impressed at my 'not drinking' last night - they will be amazed when they find out I haven't drunk all week.

Really pleased I made the decision only to tell the other couple. The pg just would have been talked about too much - I'm not ready to do that at this point & would have felt bad each time for the other couple.

    Feel ok today

    Have a great weekend everyone.

My first pregnancy consisted of a screening test at the booking in appointment. They only took blood and sent it away for testing.

This time round they did it at the scan. 2 parts to the ultrasound then blood tests. My personal feelings on this were that I would rather be prepared for the worst (I was 21 the first time and 24 this time) but the midwife also mentioned another disease that they test for (I want to say Edwards syndrome but I've probably got it wrong) which would cause excruciating pain for the baby for the few minutes it would probably survive. That broke my heart and was probably the main reason that I had it done.

Mine was done on the 6th and I got the results on Wednesday just passed, thankfully low risk.

I've been having nose bleeds at night which are resulting in me bringing up blood in the mornings :( yuck!

NCSmummy - I feel very anxious and worried this time, and overly tearful as well. When I keep busy I am better, but when I have time to think I end up short of breath from worry :o I miscarried at 4+3 last cycle, and I'm 4+2 today so I think its totally on my mind that it could all go wrong at any second :o:o I think if I get through the weekend I will relax a little, but no doubt there will be a new worry or stress for me then :o

MSM - Yay for being here too :j I did a digi on the same day as my TLP and got not pregnant, which was a bit of a slap in the chops! But I now have my 1-2 weeks pregnant on a digi, and darkening lines on normal tests, so fingers crossed... Think I will be due November 20th according to FF...

MrsJ - Thank you :D Am stalking you and keeping up to date with you and some of the others from the TTC boards. Its amazing how attached you get to people :o

Lilymay - I'm glad theres some familiar faces on here too :D Hopefully some more will be joining us from the TTC boards too. I ovulated on CD24, so it won't be a problem with dates as they will measure me ahead from my LMP date anyways. When is your early scan?

Sali - What to expect when your expecting is a good all-round pregnancy book. I also really liked the rough guide to pregnany, as it was written in a more light hearted way, whereas the what to expect books can take quite a bit of reading... You'll probably pick them up really cheap on ebay, charity shop, local for sale group on facebook or a car boot. Its the kind of thing that everyone buys with their first baby but probably doesn't even read when it comes to their second baby.

TTC - glad the holiday is all going well :D Sounds like you defo made the right decision with not telling everyone.

With the tests discussion, the midwife said to us what would we do if we did have a baby with down syndrome etc, and we wouldn't have aborted it - so therefore we chose not to have any of the tests done including nuchal fold test. I would do the same again this time too.

Right, off to go try and take my mind off of being pregnant :o:o:o:o

    Hi all, how's everyone doing?

Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy book? I've had a quick look online but there are so many I'm not sure where to start!

Got my meeting with the midwife on 2nd April to do my pregnancy notes before my booking appointment and scan on the 10th. I'm assuming they'll take blood at the booking appointment rather than on the home visit?

    Hope everyone is well :)

We've just received the 'Day by Day Pregnancy Book' which has been excellent. It's by DK and I always find their factual books to be decent.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Day-Day-Pregnancy-Book-Comprehensive/dp/1405332107

Very interesting, I'm slowly reading through it and so is the wife!

I also ordered this book second-hand which is good fun to read, the humour helps to make it easier!

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rough-Guide-Pregnancy-Birth/dp/1858287650/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1363342445&sr=1-4

    Lots of good reviews :)

Update for us - tough week with work and other stresses. Our flat is being valued today so we'll see if that means a nasty or nice surprise. OH has struggled occasionally with high readings but not for too long and mainly because she's been working nights (nurse) which doesn't make it easy.

    The Great Declutter Challenge - £876 :)

Can someone slap me please. I just did a digi fully expecting it to say 3+ but it still only says 2-3. I'm 5+2 today and if my levels had carried on rising at the rate they were I should be well above the threshold for 3+ by now. Also had a lot of cramping overnight :(:(:(:(

    Panicking quite a lot :(
