Less than 12 weeks pregnant club! Part 3

I agree SmlSave, you could just say you've an appointment that you must attend and leave it at that if you're uncomfortable about people knowing. I told my boss early on as I thought it'd be better that she knew in case anything went wrong/I needed to go to hospital or GP appointments/if I was off sick and it did help things.
Hope your scan shows good things!
Yes Claire, it was me who put the breakdown of weight gain on last week, I just Googled 'Breakdown of weight gain in pregnancy' and there are loads of sites with it on.25-35lbs is the general overall gain. I haven't gained any weight yet, but I had plenty of reserves already and with the lovely weather I've been walking to work a lot more than usual so getting more exercise which helps. I'm growing though so not quite sure how I haven't put weight on as it's not like my thighs and bum have magically shrunk and the weight has been redistributed?!
Sam, I wouldn't worry too much about your weight gain, your OH is probably right in that you need the extra because you're so small and you're right that there is no 'normal'.
I'm happy to hear that your OH is looking after you Mrs Bunny! My OH has been making plans for a bedroom switch around as our wardrobes are currently in the spare room/baby's room and he doesn't think it's fair that the baby has to share with our storage which is a fair point but I had to remind him that the baby will be in the room with us for ~6 months and if we switched rooms now there'd be no room for the cot in our new room so he's leaving it alone for now! Phew!
Hope you don't get too much of a lecture today Squirrel. I think you've done really well to lose the weight you have! :T BMI is such a load of rubbish, there are so many factors it doesn't take into account. Some people are just heavier than others (like me!) without being *really* overweight/obese. My OH hasn't got a spare inch of fat on him but he's very dense and muscley (rugby player!) so always comes up as overweight on BMI charts!
Hope your scan goes well today FaithHopeOvercome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Looking for Scan day Tuesday? Where is Tuesday? Oh its still 4 days away!
Time is dragging.
I can't seem to go to the loo at the moment (2) so I am going to go to the chemist and ask if there is anything I can take pregnant. I am not really hungry because I feel 'full'.
I am off for a lunch with my old boss for a catch up and then a 30th birthday of OH tonight - hense needing to go to the toilet even more!
There are some lovely OH's on here. My partner just says it doesn't feel real yet so he doesn't feel our lives are any different yet. I am sure if I asked him he would do something but generally I do all cooking, cleaning, washing and general money organisation. He is the handy man and has recently refitted out our bathroom and sorted our chimney so we could have a wood burner fitted. No more major works though, just saving a bit now.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

Hi Claire and Birdie
, If I had a week before my appointment I would just tell work that I had an appointment I can't miss but as they are only getting a days notice I told the head sec and my boss what's going on. After all if the scan doesn't show a heartbeat I'm going to need some leeway at work.
Had a horrible dream that I started bleedingmust think positive and only happy thoughts.....
happy, happy, happy thoughts.....
Weight gain in pregnancy is a funny thing, some put loads on especially with water retention, some stay the same and others lose weight. Its lovely having all the facts but they tend to deal with averages which few people are!
I too think that the BMI system is pretty rubbish. I reckon its just so that Dr's can now tell people they're obese without getting told off for calling people fat.

BMI is only good for the average person.
Apparently I'm too small to get pregnant as I must be not eating anything! What a load of rubbish!
DH is a muscly personal trainer & therefore 'overweight' lol
It works for most people but drs are often bad at realising it does not fit every single person.0 -
I'm so annoyed! I'm 8 weeks today and rang my GP surgery to find out when the midwife will be contacting me. The receptionist said they don't bother seeing you till after your scan and just wait for a letter in the post with a scan date for between 11 and 14 weeks. So apart from my GP telling me to take supplements I'll be getting no information or advice until possibly 14 weeks! What if I want information on what they'll be looking for in the scan? I have IBS, can I take Imodium? What is the current advice on alcohol, over the counter medications, exercising, etc? It seems that they expect you to be proactive and do your own research on early pregnancy! Is his rubbish service because I live in London?
My husband told me last night that he admires how strong willed I am. Well, half an hour of angry googling gave me a number to self refer for midwifery in South London trust, so I did that.Still not happy though as I feel I'm getting sub-standard care compared to wht many of you have said is happening for you. I've not had a single leaflet!
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
I could not get in to see the Midwife until 10 weeks and she was not suprised as they were so busy but she said I might be too late to get a scan. I was like, ' well it isn't my fault there were no Midwife appointments so I do hope I do get a scan'. I got a phone call from the Hospital the next day saying that they could only scan me on Tuesday 30th otherwise too late as they are fully booked.
I do feel that is very wrong you don't see someone before your scan seems a bit odd esp as we are all in different areas and have seen someone. I think maybe call back up tomorrow hopefully speak to someone else!
I can totally understand your situation and upset3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

How strange Kynthia, here in Wiltshire the first midwife appointment is at 8 weeks. If you want lots of information I'd suggest signing up to all the baby clubs and apps you can.

kynthia that is carp! And here's me annoyed that I've not heard anything yet after registering with the midwife on Tuesday!
Well done on being proactive and getting it sorted yourself. It does make you worry though about how many women who really need the support and wouldn't go looking for it miss out.
samtoby that's also carp! I remember when my sil was pg with her second, there was a baby boom and she didnt get her dating scan until she was 17 weeks!! Id put your foot down and insist if it were me.
Afm, I'm 6 weeks tomorrow, still no major symptoms. although the ladies were feeling a bit tender this morning.Mini me due March 2014
