kscarlet.. I have a hospital grade Doppler and I struggled to find a hb at 9 weeks.. and some days it just wasn't to be found.. it is really easy now ... at nearly 22 weeks :p..

flower.. everything crossed for good news tomorrow.. and you reminded my body it hadn't had a bleed recently so I spent Friday bleeding lots, though I'm certain it is a cervix bleed.. still messy though!

  • Hi again. Trying to make an effort to post more regularly.

Amy - I too am still POAS (or PIAC!). For the first couple of weeks I did one every day (and sometimes more often) but I have calmed down a bit. TMI but my latest 'challenge' is seeing how much of a line I can get with the (ahem) toilet water! Only using IC though so cost only a few pence each.. As you may have read I've had 2 private scans at £65 each which I thought was fairly reasonable. The first at 5w5d - saw tiny heartbeat, sac and that was about it. Had one yesterday at 6w5d and saw much more (8mm embryo, heartbeat, yolk sac etc). If you can advise waiting until about 7 weeks although I'm a fine one to talk. I have another next week too but only because they saw so little at first they're giving me another for free. If you can see a heartbeat at 6 weeks, miscarriage drops to 9%, 4% at 7 weeks, 1.5% at 8 weeks and about 0.5% after that so those statistics may help you decide.

Flower, hope all goes well tomorrow, fingers crossed (in the nicest possible way) that you'll be leaving this thread soon and moving on to 12-24 weeks.

Lozza - congrats for the scan, enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and hope to see you on the next thread in 5 weeks or so.

Abis, I know exactly what you mean about the worrying. Will be getting a Doppler soon too (hopefully) but know I'll be anxious if I can't find the heart beat..

KScarlett - not too much longer until you hit 12 weeks. It's such a scary time isn't it, I can't really enjoy it as any time something positive happens I then find something else to worry about. Don't forget the vast majority of women who've seen a heartbeat at 7 weeks (over 95%) will be absolutely fine.

    TP (8+6, really 6+6) x

Thanks Pigpen I wasn't exactly sure how early it can be heard. I'm sure at my booking in appt last time the MW couldn't find anything but the scan was ok. My Doppler says 'from 24 weeks onwards' I'm sure we used it from 12 weeks. I'd love to get a better one.

Thoughts please: thanks for that :) very interesting statistics! I think I'm just hoping my scan hurries up so I can buy cute things!

Have you had your scan date through yet? I'm one day ahead of You (9+3) and got my scan on 15th may x

  • KScarlet - sorry I added an extra t to your name:o. I'm glad you found the statistics interesting. I found it reassured me to know that my risk of miscarriage (my number one fear at the minute) is between 5-10%. I don't think I'll be buying any 'cute' things for a while but that's just me (and I'm not as far on as you anyway at not even 7 weeks, well officially I am nearly 9 weeks but I know better!).

Vic - how do you get your scan date? Is it decided at first midwife appt? I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow morning (official 9 weeks) - what will happen?

I got it in the post on Friday. I think some midwives make it there and then on the phone x

At the booking in appointment, they will start all your paperwork and ask about a billion questions. I also got my maternity exemption form to send off for free prescriptions and dental care.

  • Thanks vic. That's really useful to know. Particularly the free dentist thing as I also have a dentist appointment tomorrow after work! Could I use the form then or have to send it off?? x

I'd show them the form then send it off! Make sure you ask for one. My friend wasn't given one. Let us know how it goes x

You can ask the dentist for a receipt and then if midwife is very kind and dates your maternity exemption from tomorrow then you'll be able to claim it back
