Hello. I hope you don't mind me joining you all
I'm 33 and 6w+3 pregnant with my first; it's all come as a bit of a surprise! We haven't been actively trying and have only just moved into a new house, so were going to give ourselves a bit of time before starting to really 'try', but it seems Mother Nature had other ideas, bless her.
Still trying to get my head around it all to be honest; had first GP appointment today so feels a bit more real. My emotions swing from total and utter fear to happiness to crying my eyes out and thinking my life is over. I just feel completely unprepared for this major life event, particularly as we had not been trying at all. My husband is very happy, but has been brilliant and patience with my hot mess-ness over the last couple of weeks since we found out.
Overriding feeling is that I want a big glass of wine... lemonade just doesn't cut it... Of course I won't, but am missing it (and coffee / medium rare meat and soft cheeses) more than I can say.
BirdsOfParadise... you are very brave for posting your feelings as you have and, I have to be honest, they are feelings I share at times. I also feel under pressure to be nothing but happy about this - although no-one yet knows apart from OH and GP, and OH has been amazing (although, of course, I know he's thrilled) - because that's what convention dictates. Talking about how you're really feeling is the only way to ensure you don't go crazy, so you're doing the right thing.
For me, the major fear is that it will completely shatter my career, that I have worked so hard to build. And then I feel guilty for thinking like that, like I'm already the world's most selfish mum. OH says we will make sure it won't, as he knows how much it means to me, but there will obviously be some changes which I know I am going to have to cope with.
And don't get me started about my worries about pregnancy / body changes / the birth etc. Being a naturally 'anxious' person, this is going to be a major test...
Wow, sorry for writing what has turned into an essay. I only popped in to say hi! Also, apologies for any negativity that comes across in my post; I know some of you have been TTC for some time, or have had difficult experiences, and I don't mean to offend or appear flippant. It just feels good to get it all out in such a supportive forum.
Hope to get to know you all as we embark on our adventures.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 5500 -

My OH is in a bit of a panic this morning having found some bleeding (She's around 6/7 weeks pregnant) so I've had to try and calm her down, and just reassure her. In my non-expert opinion, I didn't seem much and wouldn't worry me too much but we've now got an appointment at the hospital on Monday as a precaution.
Anyone else experienced bleeding around this time and had to have an early hospital appointment? If so, did you have an early scan?
I know bleeding can happen at this time, and apparently it happens to a quarter of pregnant women so I'm staying calm! OH is understandably worried though.
All going well though, we'll have our 2nd child with us at the beginning of December! Can't wait0 -
I had bleeding with my first pregnancy it was over a bank holiday so they couldn't fit me in before my first scan anyway.
I had bright red bleeding and clots. Went along to the scan fully expecting to be told that we had lost the baby. We were very surprised when instead we were told there were two and no signs of what caused the bleeding.
It happened a few more times too but everything was find. Haven't had any bleeding with subsequent pregnancies.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

Ha funny you should say that as my mum is a twin, and I've been teasing my wife saying how wonderful it would be if we had twins
Thank you for your message, always reassuring to know someone else who's been through similar things!0 -
Have been driving myself mad, it's about 6.5 weeks since I conceived, when I did a clearblue digital test 2 weeks ago, the day I found out, it said 2-3 weeks, did one a week later with afternoon wee, still 2-3 weeks, vowed I wouldnt do another. A test jumped into my shopping basket yesterday (!) and I was convinced it would say 3+, did it this morning with FMU and it was still 2-3 weeks, been really stressing, this with lack of symptoms when I had bad sickness with my first is making me feel like something is wrong and Im not aware of it yet. I am not giving anymore money to clearblue but I am just so anxious, got my private scan in 13 days so not too long to wait, but a few of my friends have recently said they're pregnant and know I am and are so excited for me, I feel happy for them but also a pang of jealousy because they've already had their first scan and know that everything is ok.
Has anyone else had different readings with the digitals? I know i sound like a neurotic mad woman reading into things too much especially when I have loads of cheapo preg tests left so been doing them regularly and getting strong positives.

I had to stop buying them because they were causing me more worry than anything else.
The tests even got lighter when I was having twin so don't put too much on them.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

Hello Ladies,
Please can I join you. I have recently found out I am pregnant and went to my GP on wednesday am. She asked me when my last period was and said I was about 5 weeks. I started thinking about this on the car journey home. Surely that isn't right as I wouldn't have concieved on my period? I would have thought ov wasn't until about 2 weeks after. (I could be really wrong, I know nothing about that sort of thing)
Anyway she has booked me in with the midwife for 10th May. Is this not too early? I have no idea what they will do, she just said it will take about an hour or so. I will only be about 8 weeks according to GP's calculaions. A bit confused and nervous about it if I'm honest.
Any advice is welcomeTotal Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -
