You do know you can refuse any tests you aren't happy about having??

The GTT is their latest fad test.. usually a total waste of time as there is no reason to suspect GD. Shame they can't do a worthwhile test routinely like the StrepB swab an infection which kills many many babies every year and is wholly preventable.

I am considering refusing the GTT (or at least asking my midwife for more info before deciding) - they put in my notes that I needed one due to my BMI being 30.5, just over the limit.

However, they weighed me fully clothed (including boots and a heavy coat) after a big breakfast and a VERY full bladder (had to pee 4 times in the an hour cos of all the water I drank before the scan!) and it came up as 77.6 kg which they rounded up to 78 kg and got 30.5 BMI.

I got home and weighed myself (yes my scales work - i tested them!) and it was 75kg - 3 kg less than they have me down as!! so my BMI should only have been about 29, in which case I dont think they would have offered me the GTT. I am only in my late 20s and have no history or family history of diabetes.

I am not being vain about my weight, I just honestly don't think my BMI and general weight before and during pregnancy so far is enough to justify what sounds like a bit of a horrible test :(

    Hi,
I had a BFP on April Fools Day so thought I'd come on here. Not sure how far gone I am so the midwife has booked me for my 10 week scan on the 8th May, but I'm sure they'll say I'm further along when I have the scan.

Hannah27 I had a gtt last time and it tasted like a really sugary flat Lucozade.

BFP on April Fools, Wow! Bet that was tricky to tell people about without arousing suspicion haha :rotfl:

Having an off day today - when I went the loo found I'd had brown discharge (tmi!) during the night so was a bit worried, rang the number the midwife had given me, they said I'd need to speak to a GP. GP has just ring back, and they've said that in any case they couldn't get me in for a scan any sooner than next Wednesday so try not to worry. I wasn't so worried until I rang, it was Dh that was worrying more! I haven't had any pain and no fresh blood - so I take it that's a good thing. Least I'm going work in a bit and can try and take my mind off things a bit.

On the plus side, the maternity jeans I ordered arrived today (I'm petitie and so noone stocks anything in my leg length in maternity in store), and they are so comfortable!

They say that brown discharge is just old blood so shouldn't be anything to worry about :)

Welcome and congrats to the new members :)

I had my 7week follow up scan which thankfully was fine, saw a strong heartbeat and everything as it should be. Dated 7w6d. Feeling so worn out though, keep fainting and feeling drained

I had brown discharge with my last pregnancy and a little bit with this one. Unless its like a proper af there isn't anything to worry about. I was worried and I know until you get a scan you'll be stressed, but try to stay calm lozza, I know its not easy.

Poppy27 I had to start my sentence with "now this isn't an Apri Fools......". DH was still suspicious though!

Well still not heard off the midwives about my booking appointment. Either my drs don't pass messages on or the midwives don't want to call me. Has anyone else had any problems with this?

can i just ask is a scan at 10 weeks the norm in england?
Im in northern ireland & we have to wait until 12 weeks for a scan.
I will be 8 weeks on monday & was at my docs 2 weeks ago, but still no hospital letter with a scan date.
we dont see a midwife between doc confirming pregnancy & first scan appointment.
seems like it is done differently in places

ps (TMI) I too have had brown discharge on/off for the last week or so & my doc said it was nothing to worry about.
She said if there is a lot more heavy/thick discharge then she will do swob, or if fresh red blood they will organise early preg scan. HTH.

Give yourself a month to come to terms with things and then see how you feel. The first few weeks are so beset by a massive hormone surge that you do actually go a little bit mad. You don't have to decide anything right now. Just give it a few weeks and I think things will become clearer.

I don't want to sway you either way - it's none of my business after all. But one thing does keep going through my mind... people never seem to regret having children but they certainly regret not having them.
