Can't believe the OP is being slated for forgetting to take a £1 coin shopping. I have done it a few times and frankly, after having 5 children and with 2 little ones with me all day, I forget far more important stuff than a coin.
I shop at Morrisons which has the coin trolleys and it is a PITA tbh.
With small children I have to go to the cash machine and try to hide my PIN while holding the baby and hoping my toddler doesn't run off as soon as my card is stuck in the machine and then I have to traipse into store, wait ages in the queue for customer services to ask if I can either change notes into coins or pay by card to get £1 out of the till.
And everytime they have made me feel so much better when they have given me a £1 coin to put in the trolley or the trolley lads have used their key which unlocks the trolley without having to put a coin in.
I think the OP should complain if she feels that strongly that the service was lacking. Or do as I do - chunter away, maybe have a moan online and then move on and forget about it. Until it comes to the next shopping trip and then remember how you were treated and shop elsewhere (or go prepared!)0 -

She's not being slated for forgetting to take a quid shopping. I'm sure most people have done that. People are expressing surprise at her reaction.0 -
Why are people surprised at the OP's reaction? If I was treated like that by customer services in any place, I would also be annoyed:mad: and believe me I wouldnt go quietly!
People can be really harsh on these threads why? there is no need for it!, if you dont like a thread because you think its stupid or pointless, then dont read it! dont follow it! and if you dont have anything constructive to say/add then keep quiet, or keep your fingers away from the keyboard! Simples:cool:LOVE isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live WITHOUT

treated like what though? As I gather, the OP asked 2 members of staff for help (I'm not really sure about what she asked, or if she did ask, for specific help, she's mentioned that she said she was embarrassed to have to ask etc, but I don't know what she actually asked for) and the OP says the first person she asked said No he couldn't help (and maybe he couldn't?), and I'm not really sure, from what the OP said, what the customer service person did/didn't say or do when she asked them (again, no idea what she actually said to them).0 -
My local asda had a petition a while back to stop the introduction of the pound coin trolleys and it worked. Still think the OP should have taken some spare change.0

Hello i am looking for your opinion on whether you would complain about this or not:
I was in Asda and realised i had no change so could not get a trolley ( they require a £1 coin)
I explained to the trolley attendant and asked if he could help me as i was away to do a big shop. his reply was ' I could but id get in trouble so no' and walked away.
I then went to customer service and explained my situation to her her reply was no cant help and carried on serving others.
At this point i literally didnt no what to do as my food would never fit in a basket and im pregnant so shouldnt really be carrying such a heavy load.
Anyway i left i had no other way i could possibly shop and after asking to workers who had no interest i dont feel i want to go back again.
I understand i should have had a £1 coin but come on if someone is away to spend £100+ in your shop surely a little customer service should be offered? ( or any amount of money for that matter)
I think it's complaint-worthy.
Seems strange as in my local Asda, they have a few coinless trolleys that they can give out in this situation - as I found out one day by chance.
The way you were treated, especially as you're pregnant, is inexcusable really.
Looking at some if the replies you've had on here OP, I can't understand why people have to be so negative and picky!
Give the lady a break people! She's human, she found she didn't have any change, she wasn't asking for much and a bit of help/pleasantry would have been nice!*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

Why didn't you get cash out, bought one or two of the items you required and made sure you had £1 change to get a trolley????
Why didn't the staff member who the OP asked first (worth an ask, before running around to get change, no?) just help her?! He said he could have done, I'm sure he wouldn't have been sacked for it, especially as she was pregnant!
Typically, 36 people thanked you for your 'helpful' reply..*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

Given her a trolley that didn't need a coin as he's got a push-in thingy to sort it as it's part of his job as a trolley attendant?

Preparing for motherhood are you serious? Is that what us women are supposed to do?
I hope your OH knows how lucky she is. Her inside reading all about the joys of parenting. While you're outside dressed like a lumberjack chopping up wood for the fire or something else equally as manly.
Gotta love those stereotypes.

Waitrose gets around this problem of the £1 issue, by having trolleys with wheels which lock if you attempt to take them out of the boundaries of the supermarket... Imagine the horror...
Trolley nicking is clearly a huge problem. In my area, M&S customers are trusted with trolleys, as are Sainsbury's and Tescos. Asda, Aldi, all have the £1.00 slot. I'd say at a wild guess, it's a class issue. (Along with dreadful customer service of course) Asda and Aldi simply don't trust their customers to return trolleys to their rightful place.0
