  • Thanks for the woohoos - Thrifty the postage is a total learning curve - these days I pretty much know what the charge will be but I was told that postal costs are changing from the 1st April this morning - its going to be more on the size of the parcel and the price is obviously going up - have only just got my head around this one - aiming to clear the big stuff by the end of March now!

As for the local - I pointed out that my listings deliberately dont include this option and the road between him and us is closed for the next 8 weeks due to a landslip. Payup matey or Ill raise and unpaid item claim and block him from seeing my listings - Grrrrrr :D If he leaves bad feedback I will appeal - he's in the wrong not me! Anyway off to do some paid work now :D

    Good Afternoon all,
    Happy few days for me:-
    • Last week I found out about my compensation claim from BA Being successful.
    • Today I passed my police specials medical and have lost a stone in 7 weeks.
Hopefully should get my compensation money this week as well, although halifax account online is showing as same balance as last week even though ive spent a little over the weekend, anybody else having same glitches?

:j:jWell done Mancman on both counts:T:T

Just a quick lunchtime check in. Had to lend Hubby £30 so he can go to the rematch on Wed  You can guarantee I won't see the money back from him so will just transfer less over to his account on Friday (payday) mwah ha ha!

Also ended up spending some of the savings to go out for tea last night as Hubby was adament we should enjoy a big night out. We did have fun but come Friday I'm going to be transferring money all over the place to replenish the savings funds, pay the CC etc. Also March is a 5 weeker for me but still hoping to pay £750 off the CC...perhaps I'm being a bit too optimistic :rotfl:

ETA: Just done a few sums and if I want to replenish everything borrowed from the savings this week, I reckon I can only afford to comfortably pay £650 off the CC. Once upon a time I'd do the finances and only have £65 left to pay the CC so I should be pleased but...
However if I can cut £20 a week off the weekly budget, £750 is possible...
  • Oh dear, have totted up spends from Saturday it ain't priddy! Signature updated, but overspent on social things already, and I've got a birthday lunch next weekend. Well, if I pull back on some of the other spends (travel budget very healthy at the moment) I might still come out square at least.

Still I can hand on heart say that everything I bought was needed and will be used and should mean I don't need anything more for some time.

SFD yesterday and today, although I will need to fill the car up tonight or tomorrow.

I don't check in here hardly enough, but I am pleased to say my spends are all coming from money earned on top of normal, so via fleabay. I made a deal with myself that I wasn't allowed to use any of the joint money for personal spends, so anything I want to spend has to be done using money from fleabay. So far it's working, I'm spending less and I'm actually listing lots each week. The feeling of the extra money coming in is fab too :) I get all excited.

I do need to go to the PO on the way to work this evening though, and it's farrrr too cold out there. I'm going to punt it and wear jeans to work. I'm in until 4am if they complain so what!

Oh dearie dearie me - the car had its MOT / Service today:(. ITs not poorly but the bill was £354:eek: I had budgeted for £200! On the plus side I was able to pay with the bank card - it just means that my debt busting this month may have gone awry. However at least it wasn't put on my cc - I guess! To help matters I have transferred my ebay monies to off set it slightly but I will still end the month about £100 over what was expected!

Well done mancman - thats fantastic!

    Evening everyone!

Checking in for today... SFD number 7

I am now realising the DOWN side to overbuying!!! I bought way too much fresh stuff... and finding some of it going off/out of date! Yesterday I saved a bag of peppers by slicing/freezing them, but now see that it's much better to do a smaller weekly shop... I'll still get tinned/packet stuff if it's on offer though as that makes good sense!

Have a couple of days up in London and wondering how I can do this cheaply, as we are going to be eating out for 2 days!!! I already thought I will just take stuff for breakfast, and lunch where I can - it's just the evening meal... Maybe if I take stuff I can eat before hand (fruit/nuts) then I won't be so hungry and can order something small/light... Or have one of the days as one of my fast (600 calorie) days!!!

Only 15 days, 6 hours and 15 minutes until Pay Day!!!

I had an important revelation about spending... As pay day hits I splurge and experience a high - feeling fullfilled and on top of the world... 'rich'... Post splurge - when I leave myself with less than I would like to live on I again feel lacking or 'poor'... So my month = 1-2 days RICH and 29-30 days feeling POOR... Promise to myself is to stick to my weekly budget... maybe make up some swish envelopes to help me... AND post it myself reminding me if I go over how I will feel... The trick is stay feeling taken care of all month so I don't fall into bad spending habits to make me feel better!!!

Would love to hear if other people do this/how you get around it? I guess discipline plays a big part and motivation... All advice welcome!!!

    SFD #7 for me :)

Abundant what i do it transfer all money needed to cover bills to the joint account as soon as I get paid (incl food). Then what's left i could technically blow as its all mine. To stop me doing this i transfer 75% ish to an instant savings account which runs alongside my bank account and drip feed it back into my current account every week.

As the money isnt in my current account I cant use my debit card so it stops me splurging. Ok I miss out on the "rich" high, but i dont get the "poor" low either. I get my kicks from colouring in my Debt Free chart :D - when i entered the "Debt Free by Xmas" challenge i broke out the felt tips and drew a table with 100 squares and decorated it. Everytime I pay off 1% I colour in a square. Sounds wierd but its really encouraging to see it progressing and getting coloured in. Plus I cant "uncolour" a square so cant go backwards!

Abundant I too go through cycles of this at times, it's becoming less and less but then I have children and my debt feels like I am letting them down so I try to focus on that. Many other things can be motivational in those days that I think are alike to addiction and getting the shopping buzz hit! I think some stay on the DFW wagon for love, some for regret as we know how debt wrecks different parts of our lives, some because of guilt, some because they look forward to a different future ie holidays or more luxurious ones, being able to say yes to a spontaneous night out, spoiling family when they need it, being mortgage free, being solvent therefore a better catch for anticipated life partner.... The list goes on. Would it be useful to write down your list or do a visual brainstorm of life goals? Then couple it with what your projected pay offs are? Also maybe remembering that if you have budgeted well it means you are more likely to be able to give yourself a pre-payday treat of lunch with friends or a bottle of wine can help.
We all motivated differently (when I went to a change conference it said some of us are motivated towards things, some away from possible consequences) and maybe working out what really matters to you would help - not saying you haven't already.
Day to day using my banking app really helps me feel good about being more frugal although I am recovering from a kind of relapse (after my recent break up i stopped looking at bank account for 5/6 mths - amazing the damage that i can do in such short space of time) so it is early days.
I dream of having reserves in my savings account so I don't dread unexpected expenses too much - and the expected ones!

    HTH ;)
