Hi Guys, I can't find relevant wizz air thread so I'm posting in the forum. This is my first time so bear with me.

We boarded the plane and plane left the stand but ground staff damaged plane nose with 100 meters taxing and flight was cancelled and I re-booked my flight after 48 hours and now my travel is delayed for 48 hours.

I have a travel insurence as well and insurence company told me that they can only pay me delayed time which is £50/12 hours and nothing else. Travel insurance company asked me to provide a confirmation letter from air line about reason of delayed/cancellation and time to prove my claim.

I contacted wizz air and they advised me to submit official complaint and no one availble over the phone to answer my questions. They prorived very poor service at the airport as well.

I have incurred extra travel and accommodation expenses due to delays.

How can I ask wizzair to provide me confirmation letter?
How much can I claim compensation from wizzair?

Any other info you think I should know ? please share .

    Many thanks

It sounds like your flight was cancelled as you had to rebook.

They should have put you up in a hotel and paid for meals, soft drinks and transport to/from hotel.

If you paid for all this yourself, you can claim it all back with receipts.

Please read Vaubans Guide, details just below here.

    Good luck.

  • Wizzair not provided anything at all, they even not updated passengers properly. I also send them a request to provide "proof of delay/cancellation" on their website. No one is available to talk on the phone or on the airport. I called help line and they said they can only re-book me on next availble flight and done that. I contacted wizzair through social media and they advised me to submit online complaint. Bad customer service

  • All,

I am doing some research in advance of a friend who is currently on a flight from Dublin to SFO.

The flight took off 3 hours and 10 minutes after the scheduled time, and I believe he is therefore entitled to compensation?

Looking at their online flight tracker, the flight is set to land 2 hours 50 minutes late, but then 3 hours 20 minutes late to the actual gate.

With the above in mind, is compensation calculated off the departure time or the actual arrival time? If it is the latter, is it based on touch down or actual arrival at the gate?

Finally, can anybody provide me with information on how he shoud approach this situation with Aer Lingus and what documentation I should be using for him. I'm skeptical that of course they will say they landed 2hours 50 minutes late in order to avoid the 3 hour payout - But how could one prove the actual time of landing?

He flew from Manchester > Dublin, then had a 6 hour wait (connection was already 2 1/2 hours), and is now on a 11 hour flight - So it's been an extremely long day.

Thank you all in advance for your advice.

The time that matters is when doors open after landing at SFO. If this is later than 3 hours after the scheduled arrival time and the delay was caused by non-extraordinary circumstances, your friend will be due compensation. Note that if the delay is less than 4 hours, the compensation is reduced by 50% (to 300 Euros).
  • Hi,

So according to Aer Lingus website, the plane landed 2 hours 56 minutes late.

However, my friend did not actually get to the gate for another 20 minutes or so, before the doors opened.

In this case, would he be eligible for compensation? I imagine Aer Lingus will fight the 2 hour 56 minute time frame, when in reaality is was over 3 hours. Additionally, in Dublin airport he was not offered anything for meals / drinks, even though they took off over 3 hours after the original time.

They would say that wouldn't they?
Flightstats shows runway touchdown was 3hrs 1 min late.
Someone on here will have FR playback subscription to see exact touch down time and possible taxi route/time.If your friend took photo/video evidence of the time the doors opened (this is the legally defined time of arrival, not touch down) then he has a defendable claim.
If not, he may have to take AL to court to force disclosure of the aircraft logs which will show the time of doors opening.
If it touched down at 2hrs 56 minutes, it is highly unlikely the aircraft taxied and hooked up to the airbridge within 4 minutes. Even Ryanair pilots don't taxi that fast. What gate did your friend arrive at?

If your friend incurred expenses for refreshments, non alcholic, should be refunded by AL, as long as he has receipts.

Agree with (the other) jp. Sounds like a slam-dunk case assuming the delay was not due to extraordinary circumstances.
