you deal with the operating airline that delayed you
I expect they will put the delay down to the sick passenger that needed removed so would not qualify for compensation
You should be able to send in your receipt for your meal and have that reimbursed under "duty of care"0 -
If passenger illness was the cause of the delay, you wouldn't have a claim (except for incidental expenditure on meals and accommodation whilst travelling).

What about my own losses? for example i needed to be picked up by a friend on my schedule day but have to pay for cab next day.

If the cab came at the end of your journey, then the airline is responsible for this or other "consequential" losses - only those incurred during the journey itself.0 -

You were fortunate that your only loss is a taxi fare. That could have been the least of your problems travelling to the US with no travel insurance!
Strongly agree with this. You'd have to be daft to travel to the US without insurance. It's not even like it costs that much either ...0
