    Our compensation arrived this morning.
The notes for the pre-paid card state that you have two free ATM uses of the card so could possibly withdraw the full amount over two days without incurring any fees

  • Thanks Marcorwil and Magsnoodle that's the same address as I've used on all court correspondence so I guess they're playing hard ball with me!
  • Hi all,

Just to keep you updated that although United Airlines received the forms on the 15th of December - We sent them recorded delivery so have this detail - we still have not received the compensation.

The lady at UA told us it might be up to 30 days to process, 30 days are up tomorrow.

I intend to keep at them to make sure things do not stall at this stage in the game.

Getting a bit militant where UA are concerned and this money will be added into the holiday fund for next year.

  • Hi all,

Well it would appear that I have been a complete numpty and the moral of the story is ensure someone else looks over any forms you fill in. For some reason I put the wrong address on one of the three compensation claim forms and so the prepaid cards were sent to this address in December. How could I be so stupid?

Anyway with my best Sherlock Holmes impression I have spoken to the family who live at the house where the cards were sent and they actually shredded them, once they had spoken to the company who had issued them. As he said to me though, he had said to his mum that they could have had a good Christmas - would have been great if they knew how much was on them - 1800 euros between them.

United Airlines have now reissued the cards and they should be with us in 7 - 10 working days.

Today I am eternally grateful for honest people still being in the world today and was wondering if it would be prudent to get the lady of the house a bunch of flowers or something else as this could have gone SO wrong and how would we have proved that we didn't spend them?

    Thanks for reading.

  • Well what can I say.

The prepaid debit cards arrived on Tuesday and pin numbers arrived today. £476 was on each card as this currently is equivalent to 600 Euros. I look forward to paying the money into our holiday fund - which I plan to do on Saturday.

Will let you know how easy it was to pay the money in to the account using these cards. But it is now over and just shows that if you keep pushing the airlines do sometimes pay up.....

The moral - Don't give up!!!!!

  • So the prepaid debit cards - you have to use either at an ATM or to buy purchases over the internet - not easy for such a specific amount as £476. I had just paid a minimal deposit on our holiday for this summer and so decided to ring the travel agent and see if she would accept the cards as payment against the balance. She was able to do this so we now have a much smaller balance on the account to pay for this years holiday.

One very happy bunny at her laptop here...

Good luck to all of you still on the journey but the moral is keep going...

If you google "Air Canada UK contact" you get this:

    Are these no good?
  • Thank you Martin and all who support those looking for advice.
I had been arguing with US Airways over a delayed flight from Glasgow to Philadelphia last June resulting in arriving in Boston 5 hours late. Technical fault. Got nowhere refused compensation under EU reg offered voucher. Threatened court action nothing.
Having watched Martin' s show couple of Friday's ago I decided to email to inform I was going to CAA . Email bounced back USAirways customer service now defunct American Airlines now deal with it.
I sent them 4 lines of an email. My Us Airways case reference , that I maintained I was due compensation and going to CAA.
Within 48 hrs AA replied offering compensation under EU reg at full €600 per passenger.
    Thank you everyone :beer::beer::j:T
