  • Just after a little advice.
A group of 4 of us flew out to Tampa via Toronto from Manchester with Air Canada rouge on the 22nd July we ended up leaving Manchester over an hour and a half late, meaning we missed our connecting flight and had to spend the night in Toronto and eventually arrived into Tampa 24 hours late with a wasted night in a hotel.
On our return journey we left Tampa an hour and a half late and were told when we landed, although we had already gathered that we'd missed our connection, but that the flight they had booked us on to was 48 hours later.

I've sent a letter off to the air Canada customer relations in Liverpool and emailed customer relations too. Has anyone had a successful claim or even a response to acknowledge a claim

There is certainly no claim for the return flight as you were not on an EU airline. Your outbound flight might be covered depending on the reason for the delay to departure, if it wasn't weather, then there may be a claim. Having said that, the minimum connecting time at Toronto for these flights was 1hr 25 and you only had 15 minutes extra according to the timetables so there was no room for any delay. As you discovered Air Canada Rouge leaves a lot to be desired, any savings, and their flights don't seem wonderfully cheap are lost when you get stranded. ( but the crew do have nice hats!)
  • If I remember right they didn't actually give us a reason for the delay, we got to the airport at 8am for an 11.45am flight, when we arrived at the airport they'd already pushed the flight back to 12.15 but by 12 had everyone waiting by the gate but not even the air hostesses had gotten on yet. We booked direct through the air Canada website and assumed because of this they felt we would have enough time to clear customs obviously with no delays. Having never travelled with them before this we obviously didn't realise how laughable arriving on time would be.
Ha we did like their hats
  • Hi

Would just like to say thank you for encouraging us to seek compensation. We were delayed for 11.5 hrs last April Manchester to Miami via Philadelphia I saw the blog about flight compensation and email US Air last week. I'm pleased to say that my husband and I were given electronic flight vouchers for $600 each!!! Reminds me of something my parents used to say to us as kids "nothing ventured nothing gained" 😉. Let's see if I'm as blessed with claim for bank package watch this space ☺️

Thanks Martin and crew your advice is always well appreciated.

You need to realise that you do not have to accept vouchers (which may come with all sorts of T&C's that render them mostly useless) and can demand cash instead.

Furthermore US $600 is around 450 Euros at current exchange rates. Your flight was over 3500km and you were more than 4 hours late so you should be due 600 Euros each in compensation.

    Do you still feel 'blessed'?
The above is just my opinon - which counts for nowt! You must make up your own mind.
  • Exactly the same response from US Airways for Glasgow to Philadelphia delay by email yesterday . Claimed a bare wire next to where fuel was being topped up was extraordinary malfunction- we sat on plane at the gate for 3 hrs 10 mins, arriving in final destination of Boston over 5 hours late having subsequently missed connecting flight. Not interested in vouchers we had saved up for this trip to celebrate my mums retirement and have no plans to return to USA .
Anyone know of a UK address that I can use for US Airways to move up this to small claims?
    Any advice welcome

See my post here for the address - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=65975238&postcount=388 - although I haven't tested it yet.

    HTH,
    Just broke, even.
  • Hi everyone
Last year we had a flight booked from San Francisco to Manchester with a connection in Atlanta. The Asiana Flight 214 crash happened on the runway while we were waiting to board our flight and so the airport was temporarily closed, they then started to use limited runways. Our Delta flight was cancelled and we were booked onto an alternative flight through Paris - this meant we were delayed in leaving by 13 hours, also had to stay overnight in a hotel in Paris and eventually reached Manchester on the Monday instead of the Saturday. Our bags had also gone through Atlanta and were misplaced and so we didn't receive them for another week. Our travel insurance didn't seem to cover us for anything, just wondering if there is any other claim we could make.
    Thanks

Very unlikely as the airport closre was beyond the control of the airlines. Did you pay for hotel/subsistence in Paris? If not you may be due that under reg 261/2004
If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Back of the class for you JP: this is a non-EU airline flying from a non-EU airport, so the Reg doesn't apply.
