Awkward situation with a friend

They have received contributions from everybody they know except my OH and me and she was hoping that we could make up the shortfall so that they can have the treatment. She never actually said how much it is that they need though I did ask. The impression I got was that the others had gifted it rather than lent.
That reminds me of a teenager saying "everybody else is going/has one" never true when you check into it. I very much doubt it is true here either, especially in the current economic climate. Emotional blackmail at its worst.0 -
Unreal - I'd just refuse to have anything to do with this woman ever again. To think she and her mother have been discussing your finances behind your back and trying to work out how much they could con out of you - it's really horrific."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

That is so true. Please never ever have anything to do with her e re again and please don't give her one single penny let alone another thought, you are very lucky to have come away with your bank balance unscathed :eek:0 -

I was more concerned that her mum was offering to come and help. I felt like I was going to be given no other option than to say yes without causing a bit of a scene and embarrassing myself in a place that I enjoy.0

I just don't understand how they can think it is acceptable to behave in that way.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -

Neither do I. I have known them both for most of my life and never ever expected anything remotely like any of this to happen. I certainly never saw it coming and am still trying to work out where it all went so wrong and what I could have done to cause it.0 -
