Awkward situation with a friend

Options
Sorry this may be a long and boring read.

I received a text message earlier this evening from someone who I used to believe to be one of my closest friends in the world.

I say used to be as during my last pregnancy with my youngest child she had a bit of a screaming meltdown at me. I was told all sorts of unpleasant things relating to being inconsiderate, heartless, thoughtless as I was blithely approaching the arrival of my 3rd child when so many of our social group were struggling to have their first. From this point I have no contact whatsoever from her until tonight. No phone calls, cards, anything.

However this message informed me that this lady and her partner will need assisted conception to have a child. Furthermore she would like me to lend her the money to pay for it. I have not responded in any way yet as quite frankly I am scared of responding like a petulant child and not only making the wrong decision but embarrassing myself.

This lady would I have no doubt whatsoever make an excellent mother and any child would be blessed to have her. However I am more than a bit peeved that this is the first contact in 2 years! I would really appreciate sensible unbiased opinion on how to proceed please.

ignore it completely - honestly some people have an incredible amount of cheek!
  • Personally I would ignore her like she's ignored you for two years. What a cheek!

That's just taking the p1ss! Ignore her or if you must respond tell her to bog off.
  • My question to you is why you are even asking how you should respond.

I would have deleted the message and thought no more of it.

If she would be a brillant mum then let her adopt / foster

Why would you think she would make an excellent mother? she sounds like a complete failure as a friend! instead of being happy and glad for you when you had third baby - she was jealous and nasty! I wouldnt want her as mother!
Ignore message and delete it and do not give her another thought!

I would also probably ignore her.

But if you did feel you wanted to reply for some reason I would keep any reply very brief and say something like that you have a policy of never lending money to anyone (thats assuming it was a direct ask, rather than a hint).

if it's been two years.. ignore it! You can always claim you've changed your number should you for some reason see her.
