Glad, I have respect for your point of view on many issues, but the more you describe the "reasoning" behind that particular thread (I did refer to confusion over other threads, but you do seem to want to focus on that one) the more I am wondering if this is at all related to the fact you Moderate that forum and perhaps feel it doesnt' get the attention you feel it deserves?

Do you seriously wish to "stop chatting on other boards"????? Wow!

How else would we share ideas????
I've only referred to that thread as it is the one that got moved,

I don't moderate any forum, all the boards are part of one chat forum they are not seperate forums,
I'm a board guide on the MSA board, I'm also board guide on 'Anything Else', 'Health', 'Families', 'Wales', 'Discussion Time' and 'Polls' so don't need/have time to worry about 'the attention' one board may be getting,

the idea to have 'The Arms' to stop chatting elsewhere was not my idea, I'm just referring to it,
there is a notice at the top of the freebie board asking that chatting be restricted to the Arms,
nor do I think that chatting in other threads should be stopped if it concerns the original topic,
all I wanted to say is that it is nice to have some overlapping where a thread that seemed to be just a chat about what is for tea could be discussed in the Arms, It was nice to chat to some different people and share new ideas, and it is a shame that you now seem to be taking my comments completely out of context

It was me who posted on a thread asking in what sense a post about getting your essays done was money saving or old style. I didn't mean to sound critical, I just couldn't work out what the poster wanted.

But in the case of Queenie's post it fitted in with the all those other threads about eating well on a budget so it seemed obvious it should be here. And wasn't it following on from the 'In my slow cooker tonight' thread that wasn't moved?

When you consider how many people can't or don't cook and spend a fortune on convenience foods and takeaways, anything about cooking at home must be Moneysaving Old Style. Mustn't it?

It looks like we've been here before http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Oldstyle;action=display;num=1103224480

Further down there is a comment from Martin.

It's unfortunate that you feel I'm taking your comments out of context, I didn't believe I was, but I can almost see why you might get that impression.
I can't see the difference between having a chatty thread about what's for dinner in here or in the Arms,

~ Glad, do please go back to that thread and please explain to me how that thread was not moneysaving in essence! Do please read the focus of that thread.

the main thing to remember is that all boards except the Arms and Discussion time are moneysaving based,

    ~ as was mine
Are you able to comment on those points Glad?

Ol'Style has developed into much more than just WW2 make do and mend tips. It now covers so many topics such as morals, family values, gardening, cooking, conservation and recycling, home management, finances and accounts and so much more. All these topics are covered on specific boards but not from an Ol'Style perspective. When peeps on higher-up boards are discussing finances they are in the realm of peps, tessas and isas, down here we're getting to grips with the three purse system. And for most of us that's as big-business as we want to get:D

Each board has its own style. Some are very clipped and businesslike others (like Ol'Style) are chatty, with more that a bit of leg-pulling and banter. IMO that's no bad thing.

Many of the posts and questions could easily be put on other boards but the reason people post on Ol'Style is because they are seeking Ol'Style answers and know they will get them on this board.
Another reason is that they wish to share info/chat with the 20 or so friends they have on this board. We all know that technically thousands look at these posts but in our minds it's just a coffee morning for the 10 - 30 regulars posters. I think if we really considered just how many were privy to our domestic doings (and lets face it quite a bit of dirty laundry has been aired here) we would all log off and watch daytime TV:eek:

I have though for a while that it may be a good idea to rename the board to better reflect it's wide and diverse content. I'd struggle to know what to call it tho.

    Hi!

This is the reply I had from Martin:-

"To be honest I rather like the old style nature of the board. I think it has a bit of a life of its own - so unless posts are abjectly wrong - i think people there are looking for a different style of answers so we could just leave the posts in there."

So it looks like we just leave things as they are. smiley.gif

Enlightening reading throughout the whole thread actually. ;)

So, if my post wasn't "abjectly wrong" .... please may I have it back Glad???

That thread is worth a read just for Maths comments alone.....I assume he had been on the home made old style vino!?!;)

Erm.....I really don't want to antognize the situation further but doesn't Martin's comment on the previous thread suggest that Queenies post need not have been moved? I'm more confused than ever about what I can a & can't post now? And I'd still like a sub board for old style recipes or food or something..........

Edit : :looks like I cross posted with Queenie!

    thanks MATH

    yes 'Old Style' has evolved
I seem to have been dragged into this after giving a welcome to a few new posters in The Arms after a thread was moved there, and although 'Old Style' is a lovely comfy place to be it would be a shame if people didn't venture out occasionaly, some threads on this board should be on other boards, some will be moved and some not and not everyone will like it, I think Queenie has more than made her point regarding the meaning behind asking what we were all having for tea, so I hope this can be let go now,
please let me say that I am not against chatty posts I was referring to threads that go off topic and turn into a thread that is just chat,
