The first time I came on the message boards and looked down the long list of boards, the first one that caught my attention was Money Saving Old style. I like the title and wouldn't want it to change. As other people have said, if you want old style answers you post on here because you know you're going to get back to basics, environmentally friendly answers.

As a newbie, I've found it really friendly here and some of the posts are hilarious. I go on other boards too but haven't ventured into The Arms purely because I don't like pubs!

Thanks for pulling us back on topic, Daisy :D As I said early, I think the title is fair enough, merely the description of the forum which could be fuller/more encompassing.

Don't know if that would prevent a complaint about this particular forum being a 'board within itself' - which, to me, seems to be the real nub of the complaint. ;)

  • OK, it seems to me that Judi was trying to keep the topics on the board relevant to Martin's original description. There are many subjects discussed on the chat forum that could go on any number of boards and it often comes down to personal discretion what happens with them.

Generally, we'd say if a topic is absolutely obviously in the wrong place then move it.
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

Can I apologise in advance to Daisy.:o

If you ever venture (and I hope you do soon) into The Arms.........you might read some alarming posts.

They'll be referring to Daisy the flea ridden moggie, Daisy who needs worming, Daisy who can answer the remedial class 'A' Level questions etc. Don't take offence or a gate, will you?

It's OK, Judi - I know it wasn't deleted. I think I clicked on a 'thanks' link before my reply had gone through - that's all I can think of, so it diverted to the thanks and deleted my reply. That'll teach me to be too hasty and not check first.

    WOW!

I only used to go on any of the 'sassy shopping' group of threads and was most happy when I felt part of the M & S reductions thread and felt I was getting to know people and even had my first pm!! This was pre christmas and earlier this year I came across Ol Style and started watching and reading.

It is such a friendly place to be (and I am not saying other boards/threads/posts etc etc are not) and I happily joined in and listened to peoples advice, recipes, shopping tips etc. I have learnt some amazing money saving things here and have not felt stupid asking questions about things (eg george foreman grill/slugs in kitchen to give 2 examples).

Also I have laughed over so many funny posts and that has to be money saving (not spending while laughing and also good for your health!!). I could write lists of names of people I could thank as this board has made a HUGE difference to my life. My family will agree, cutting coupons, meal planning , trying the challenges (failed my first grocery one already but think I grossly underbudgeted!), all the recipes and home made stuff (like laundry powder stuff!).
I talk about the site daily to friends, colleagues and family and think MSE is fab!!
This is my fav place to be but I still frequent shop til u drop, the grabbit board, freebies, online etc discounts, have now tried the arms (some lovely messages re my op') and have posted a thread recently on I wanna (no joy with what I want!!) and on health (re my future hysterectomy, cos tho I mentioned it here was not sure it was the right place to chat about though have had some kind messages also!)

Sorry I have waffled on, getting back on topic the title initially put me off coming here but once in you are in you don't really want to leave, so thank you everyone and don't be put off continuing your posts because some of us are sooo grateful and our homes (and purses, all 3 of them!) are better off for it!

    THANKS!

I haven't visited the forum for quite a while until today, but I've always thought that 'Money Saving Old Style' was a perfect name for the board and have used it for reference LOADS in the past.

Being in my twenties, it's nice to know that I can go there for the kind of information/advice/tips/recipes that I would have got from my grandmother had she still been alive (no offence meant by this - I just mean no-nonsense old fashioned stuff).

    I think it's great!

No, I know we're not - I just like the quiet life lol.

To everyone on all of MSE - I like all the boards, and it is amazing what you pick up wherever you go - I had a real giggle last night reading some links that came from the Ebay board!

So wherever you post, someone will benefit - cheers to everyone :D
