Please may we have some clarity on which topics are deemed "appropriate" for Old Style and clear up any confusions?
Yesterday, my thread Tempting Tuesday Tasties was moved to The Arms - the reasoning appears to been:-
Today I'm reading a different post in Old Style, here, where it's validity pertaining to Old Style also came under question and one of the perceptions as to why it was valid (which I believe is shared by many on Old Style was:
Some think gardening topics are appropriate for Old Style, others believe it belongs in "In my Home: DIY".
Cleaning topics are placed in Old Style, yet that also pertains to "In my home: DIY" (hey, how often do we recommend diy cleaners!!? Cleaning takes place in my home!!!)
Feminie Hygiene: Health? Old Style? (Our grannies used HM sanitary wear)
Say "Old Style" to me and I think, sewing, crafts, food, gardening, cleaning, dressmaking, mending, recycling, juggling the day/family/work/life/community spirit, etc. more than merely rationing and vinegar!
I don't want to be stuck in the Arms discussing the days dinner - I'm not really one for pub lunches and eating out is soooo expensive these days!
TIA
PS: and if we're going to be *really* rigid ... shouldn't topics asking for slow cooker recommendations be in "I Wanna"??? Confusion reigns!!!
White vinegar for cleaning, WWII rationing for budgeting. The good ol'days brought back.

your original post was more of a chatty post ..... Martin started the Arms and then Discussion Time so that the boards on the Main money part of the forum could stay focused on moneysaving posts and we could do our chatting down here

I can't see the difference between having a chatty thread about what's for dinner in here or in the Arms, it's not a real pub that you have to go into, and if certain posters do all of their posting on one board regardless of the topic then we are in danger of that board becoming a mini site of it's own,
the main thing to remember is that all boards except the Arms and Discussion time are moneysaving based, and chatty posts that take a thread off topic have never been encouraged and people posting to chat in the Arms does help the community spirit of the site as a whole,
there will always be threads that could fit in more than one board so choose which is the most appropriate, but there are some threads started in 'Old Style' by posters just because the board is the one they always post on, instead of scanning the site for a more appropriate board,
also there are a lot of new threads started that are already topics in existing threads, in 'Old Style' and other boards,
but it does seem as if you are relating to people in the Arms as a different 'type' whereas the MSE site has always been a site where people can post on any board, it's a site as a whole and it would be a shame if the boards became seperated too far.I am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I'd like a bit of clarification too....I value the chatty informal posts on old style which aren't always the style on some of the other boards. The Arms, much fun though it is, doesn't stick to topics very much & it can be diffcuilt to follow a thread. Also, any chance of maybe a sub-board for recipes etc?Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

Sorry Glad but I prefer it here too, I've tried a few of the other boards and got jumped on a few too many times for my liking. On old Style I've found a group of very like minded people who also like to have a laugh. Maybe we are becoming a little too insular but I don't have the technical no-how to start up a website of my own and found there are very few frugal UK sites and what there is doesn't seem to have forums or get updated very oftenOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

it just seems a shame that you see the Arms as a place you aren't happy to visit, especially as it was set up to stop chatting on other boardsI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I agree with all of the above. I still dont think posting what I am making for tea today (using my reduced bargains or using up leftovers to stretch a meal) is something that people in the Arms want to read on a daily basis, whereas the people in Old Style very much do want to know and can help and advise if needed“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I can't see the difference between having a chatty thread about what's for dinner in here or in the Arms,
~ Glad, do please go back to that thread and please explain to me how that thread was not moneysaving in essence! Do please read the focus of that thread.
the main thing to remember is that all boards except the Arms and Discussion time are moneysaving based,
~ as was mine
and chatty posts that take a thread off topic have never been encouraged
~ human nature and the fluidity of conversation always have the potential to wander off topic - equally, it does return to topic
but it does seem as if you are relating to people in the Arms as a different 'type'
~ Not at all, the people are the same, it's the subject matter of the Arms is completely different:- what someone's having for dinner (in real life) doesn't come under the usual style of topics in the Arms (as I've described in my OP)
whereas the MSE site has always been a site where people can post on any board, it's a site as a whole and it would be a shame if the boards became seperated too far.
~ I cannot see how the boards are becoming "seperated", Glad. Old Style money saving is in itself a LIFESTYLE, a way of doing things on a day to day basis. If I want to know about utilities, I'll read the utilities board; likewise with banking, holidays etc.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I agree, I found the Arms more a place where people held discussions and cracked jokes rather than shared recipesOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

I'm a regular in the Arms but read through and reply to threads on the Old Style board almost daily.
I know that you all feel that you 'know' and understand each other in Old Style and may feel uncomfortable branching out to other boards but there are lots of us that would be happy to see you elsewhere on the site.
I started a thread in the Arms called What did you have for your tea? which went on for pages and pages and everyone gave each other lots of ideas. (I can't find it now, must've been on the old site) it meandered off topic as people commented on how nice things sounded and asked for recipies and it really did fit in in the Arms.
We're not all talking gibberish in there...well...not all of the timeJust run, run and keep on running!0 -

Glad, I have respect for your point of view on many issues, but the more you describe the "reasoning" behind that particular thread (I did refer to confusion over other threads, but you do seem to want to focus on that one) the more I am wondering if this is at all related to the fact you Moderate that forum and perhaps feel it doesnt' get the attention you feel it deserves?
Do you seriously wish to "stop chatting on other boards"????? Wow!
How else would we share ideas????~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
