my most expensive piece is my engagement ring and it cost £150.

personally i couldn't justify getting into debt for a piece of jewellery. and to be honest i would never look at a ring on another woman and 'know' it was expensive.

if you really want it and you are about to earn £800 more each month then save for a couple of months and get it.

The only jewelry I have is a silver ring that my mum got for me YEARS ago in the oasis sale of all places and it was about a fiver and Ive worn it for so many years I couldnt take it off even if i wanted to :)

OH bought me a necklace, heart shaped rose quartz- as rose quartz is supposed to help heal or relive pelvic problems which Ive got. Now I know this ony cost a few quid ( saw his ebay account :) ) but it means the world to me and I havent taken it off since he bought it for me, nor do I ever intend to.

If my OH bought me blig Id tell him to take it back. I proposed to him on one knee in Kings Cross opposite mcdonalds- Ive never bought a ring adn he asked did I want one - I said no, the only thing I want from him is to be his wife. No bit of metal is going to make me love him any more.

I actually cant believe the OP is wanting her OH to go into debt for some sort of frippery. If you want it so badly sell other stuff you own to buy it. I couldnt really imagine being that materialistic the only things I really really want is more holidays with my beloved
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I got engaged about 18 months ago, we are getting married in September.

My engagement ring cost £40, it is a garnet cluster, my wedding ring is going to be £29.98 from the jewellary quarter. I don't need bling, I also don't believe in competing over stuff like this.

For years I wanted a nice solitaire diamond ring, anyway once on holiday a saw a ring I loved. DH said buy it even though it would have been a push to afford it. However I didn`t, panic set in, I knew for years ahead I would be worrying in case it got lost, mislaid or stolen. Still fancy a bit of bling though!

Can't you find something similar in a jewellers which sells second hand (literally!) rings? I would hate to get into debt for something which will only be worth half as much once I've worn it!

I only wear one ring, which was my Nana's engagement ring, and a gold necklace my OH bought me (cheap) and I am very happy!

I dont think its about what it costs me and OH been together 10 yrs now got enagaged last yr while on hols in NYC so got ring there, now me too never had anything expensive in my life before but I will wear this ring along with what it means for the rest of my life (fingers crossed) but even now 18 months i still well up with pride when I look at it -(so beautiful) and I know I will feel like this forever - now not sure if its the ring or the fact it took us so long to get there!!! but who cares it feels great (and also valued at 4x what OH paid)
Now getting married in Cyrpus in July 07 and we keep trying on wedding ring and I did only want a simple white gold plain band ring (as I love my engagement ring so much didnt want to clutter my hand) so after trying so many on decided to go for

and swop hands/rings so on different hands - as I know I dont want an eternity ring as my engagement ring was so special ..... anyway back to the point
its what the ring means not the value but if you and Oh agree (and afford)I do think a girl should have a special piece of jewellery as longs as its given with love !!! (not obliged)

I can see why you want something nice........

But to get it on credit, NO.

What about getting one for £400 (a quarter of the price) cash, you can get a really nice eternity ring for £400. It's still a bit of bling:D , but you won't be paying for it for three years:D

"New" jewellery is a racket anyway. :(

I lost an old red-gold bracelet a few years back and claimed on my house insurance. The insurance company no longer send cash - they send vouchers to replace it.

I didn't want a replacement (the first one had sentimental value I couldn't replace), and thought I'd buy a piece of jewellery with the voucher and then sell it - and use the cash for something I did want.

The voucher was for £800, so I took it to Goldsmiths (as I had to), and bought a gold man's bracelet for that amount.

I went straight from there with the bracelet to sell it - and got offered £80, as that was all the value of it was.

I didn't sell it - I bought it home and gave it to my son, but what a racket it all is.

Unless you can buy old/antique jewellery, where the actual gold etc., is worth something, I should just get what looks nice, and forget the value.

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
