Any of you ladies not own any expensive jewellery?

Can I just say that the price tag for that ring is rather high. If you REALLY do want a ring like that, I would shop around. £1600 for 0.5 carat diamonds in platinum at SI1 clarity is quite pricey in my opinion.
On another note, the most expensive piece of jewellery I have is my engagement ring which we picked together and got money off it because we used our Tesco Clubcard vouchers! That's moneysaving for you.I love it more than anything I own because we both chose it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting a nice piece of jewellery but only if you can afford it.
When my husband I got engaged in was in barbados and we had to settle with a ring purchased out there. It wasn't expensive but it served it's purpose and did me for about 5 years. Then my husband wanted to get me a nice engagement ring to replace it. He was earning more and said he would pay it over 6 months. My new ring cost £1000 and it is lovely but I didn't ask for it and the suggestion came from him.
Oh just to add, if you're going to spend that amount of money, ensure the diamond is of quality grading. I believe SI1 is not good quality.0 -
I have an eternity ring. Bf bought it for me for Xmas after we were together for 4 months. Bit premature? Maybe, but we are still together 8 years down the line.
Anyways...this ring probably means more to me than anything else because we shopped for it together, and after he had bought all his presents for his family, said I could have what was left in his bank account. He got a bit upset as his money kept dwindling, but stuck to his word. I ended up with a lovely ring for £40 (can't remember where it's from though) and bf lived on toast for the rest of the month! No SI1 IS a fairly good grading. It means it's Semi Included gradient 1 which means that no flaws will be visible to the naked eye, only under 10x magnification. However, I think that for £1600 you should be getting a higher gradient of diamond for your money. There's nothing wrong with SI1 but that price is too high for an SI ring.0 -
I wouldn't want a present I'd had to nag and argue to get - I'd prefer one my OH really wanted to get for me. I'd get a guilt trip every time I looked at it. And I wouldn't want one just because all my friends had one either.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

I don't own any expensive jewellery. It doesn't bother me. I wear everything I own (watch, chain, bracelet, wedding ring and earrings) every day. Nothing cost more than £150. My husband bought me a £100 Rotary watch from duty-free last month. I bought my last watch after going into town with an alarm clock in my pocket because my watch had broken. Decided enough was enough and went in and bought an £18 Sekonda watch from Index. I had it for about 8 years, and didn't really want/need a new one. It was nice to get a gift for no reason though. Not sure if i'd feel the same if I pressurised dh into buying it for me. He wants to buy me an eternity ring but i'm not keen. I'd be scared a stone fell out. My sister has a 'bling' ring which cost £2000 almost 20 years ago. She's twice had to get stones replaced.
By all means treat yourself to a nice piece of jewellery but don't get into debt for 3 years for it.0 -
Ive been married twice and never had an engagement ring. My wedding ring cost £30. I'd rather have the love of a good man than the bling.0

My wedding ring and engagement ring both cost £12.50 in 1987, from Ratners.
This ring, why do you want it? Think about cost per wear. If you wear it once a year, you are not getting your money's worth. If you wear it everyday, well you may enjoy it, but could you wear it washing up? How about cleaning the loo? If it was always being taken on and off, could you forget where you put it, or could it be lost?
Could you see if you still liked it a few months down the line? I have been caught a few times with the 'really really wants' to find that the thing I desired no longer appealed a few months later and was just an expensive mistake.
Two anecdotes (I like the sound of my own typing)
My gran's first (expensive) engagement ring was stolen when she moved. I inherited the replacement, a rather nice emerald and diamond job which I am scared to wear and cost a fortune to get cleaned and resized. My mother's first engagement ring was an antique amethyst and pearl ring she had inherited and was stolen (possibly by her MIL!). I inherited her sapphire and cubic zircona replacement, which is too thin to be resized and too small for me to wear. My Ratner ring (which I loved, because we were both skint, and we loved each other soooooo much) lost it's stone a few years ago. I haven't bothered replacing it.
For my twenty first, friends and my ex bf bought me some silver jewellery which I had been drooling over for 18 months. My twenty first was a really good party - I ordered the flowers for the neighbours the day before and I also got in cleaning stuff for the carpet. I still have the pieces, still blackened from the cleaning stuff I used the day after I got the pieces.
If you go for this piece, I admire your courage. Have you checked QVC for some of their diamonearly?

Jewelery is just an aesthetical lump of material, so what's the point of paying £150 for something, when you can have something identical for £5??
I would much rather have something my OH made me, coz anyone can go out and spend £150 on a necklace/ring etc... but it takes physical effort to make something.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I've just started to collect 'fine' jewellrey really.
I was engaged in 2001, and that was a platinum, pink sapphire and diamond ring, from QVC for £200. It was thrown back at him though lol.
I bought another ring from QVC - well three actually....it was a set, with Opals and Diamonds, both uncles gave me £50 cash for my 18th, and my birthday is October, so it sorta fit...don't wear it that often though.
Other than that, I've bought all my jewels. I bought a gold necklace in Cyprus for £80, it's gorgeous, and was all the more special, cos it was the first time I could afford something like that off the bat.
I have 0.5ct diamond studs, £50 from H Samuels, and £150 Tissot watch that I bought with my first ever bonus, and a bargain £29.99 opal and tanzanite ring from Gems TV, and I wear them nearly everyday.
To be honest.....I spend my cash on Radley handbags(I'm 23, live with parents, no kids or partner...so after all bills, my cash is mine lol)
