It is a 1 carat emerald cut (rectangle shaped) diamond ring. One stone of very good clarity and colour with only 2 tiny inclusions. It didn't cost this much, but we've been told to insure it for... wait for it.... £7800
It's a lot of cash to blow on a ring, but she's over the moon with it. She gets occasional complements from strangers, which is quite weird. I feel oddly proud about being able to provide for her like that. I originally proposed with a fake ring that cost £35 from a local jewellers - she wears this when she's at work (she's a nurse and rather afraid of loosing/being attacked for a valuable ring). She's actually quite attached to it for sentimental reasons
I haven't followed this whole thread - but my engagement ring is insured for twice the value we paid - we went to a jewellery wholesalers though.

Me and my wife paid £34 for our silver wedding rings. My wife who is Thai, is the only Thai woman within all of her frends that does not wear any Thai bling bling gold. Her friends think that there is something wrong with her. We just laught at all of her friends trying to compete with each other, especaily at social gatherings. It is realy not important to show off any bling, if anything it makes you More interesting.
