Hi there, well my plane was intially delayed, then it was cancelled. An air canada plane had burst a tyre on the runway at gatwick, so the runway was closed, some flights were re-routed to other airports and some were cancelled. I got a flight yesterday, two days later, but I incurred some considerable travel and accomodation costs and food costs in the process.

Can the above posters put their experiences of EJ lies and misinformation on the CAA Collection thread I created so that we can inform the CAA of this appaling behaviour?
    Thanks

    Hi Gorie and Timdlee0,

Both LGW and TLS seemed to be operating normally on 9 Jul, so EJ must be referring to a different flight, prior to yours.

If that is the case, it would make your delay a 'knock on' in so far as it was not directly affected by the claimed 'natural disaster'.

The flight coming out to you from LGW, EZY8339, was also cancelled. Probably due to crew out of hours or a lack of crew.

That would not be a valid excuse, imo, as LGW is EJ's main base where they could rightly be expected to have both standby aircraft and crews available. The regs make this point specifically.

With 2, potentially full aircraft, of claimants you can now see why EJ are making claims as difficult as possible.

Be determined and keep pressing them for the details, it's looking positive:)

  • Hello

My flight was cancelled on Wednesday which I was able to reschedule for very late Thursday (28 hours after the original departure).

At the airport it was chaos as EasyJet flights to three destinations were cancelled (from Venice, flights to London, Berlin and Amsterdam all cancelled). We were told by the EasyJet team it was an operational issue and that we would be able to claim 250 Euros per passenger under EU regulations as the flights had been cancelled due to a backlog of flights impacted by weather earlier in the week.

I was travelling with three children under five, including a 13 month old infant. After we had been waiting for around four hours I asked if I could get a voucher for food and drink, even if just for the children, and was told no as there were too many people and they wouldn't have enough. I rebooked the flight and hotel via the app. They failed to provide transport to the hotel and we had to take a taxi (40 euros). They said they weren't able to get enough shuttles and were telling people to take taxis. They promised to have one for the return journey but this didn't materialise either.

Before I could contact them to put in a claim I received an email today saying it wouldn't be possible to claim as it was due to air traffic control regulations (direct contrast to what we were told on the ground) but that they would offer me a £150 EasyJet voucher as a gesture of goodwill.

Do I still persist with a claim? I feel I should be entitled to some compensation as we both missed a day of work and the children missed a day of nursery (which isn't important but we had paid £150 for the cost of that day). I have a feeling they will just keep saying it was exceptional circumstances despite being told differently on the ground.

    Hi SouthCoaster,

It sounds like EJ were suffering operation problems imo. That is not an EC and compensation should be paid along with any receipts you have for food, soft drinks, transport, hotels and additional cost incurred as a direct consequence of the delay.

Ask EJ for a deadlock letter and take your claim to CEDR, EJ's appointed ADR provider, who will independently look into your claim. You still have the option to litigate if necessary.

I believe EJ are winning the race to the bottom of CS at the moment, they are getting worse day by day.

Google, download and read 'Vaubans guide' for loads of info.

    Good luck.

This might sound like cake and eat it, but I too have been offered £150 EJ vouchers, but also have a pending/on-going compensation claim with bottonline. If I take the vouchers will this a null the claim, i guess what im asking is 'are there T&Cs of acceptance' wrapped around these vouchers? Apologies if im sounding in experienced, Ive never been through this ordeal before. Thanks in advance for any reply.

If you take the vouchers which I don't advise you could end up paying Bott & Co for the work they have already done which could leave you out of pocket. Let them deal with it they know what they are doing
