Is is not reasonable to expect a plane to have extra fuel for this sort of thing, they must get delayed for half and hour all the time?

Still entitled to food and drink after the 2 hour delay though - which they also haven't yet paid.

I'm really annoyed with the way they handled the whole thing, no information, the staff on the gate were evasive and unhelpful.
We were offered free snack and drink on the plane - but they ran out, one of the cabin staff was very rude to an elderly gentleman near us when he asked for water after having been at the hot, crowded gate for hours.

Just had a reply from Easyjet:

"I am sorry to inform you that our policy does not include refunds of any type for delayed flights, so unfortunately we cannot refund you for the cost of the food."

You need to quote the relevant article of Reg 261/2004 regarding duty of care and provide a copy of your receipts for refreshments.

Thanks JPears - I have just done so.
  • Hello everyone,

Yesterday was the first time I had a flight with easyjet. I am in exchange student in Milan and I was going to Brussels from Milan Malpensa Airport. I have a type D national visa for Italy with multiple entry. At the boarding gate easyjet staff stopped me and told me my visa is not valid. I don't understand why. I travelled to Berlin with Ryanair last week and there was no issue. I confirmed with my university and police department and they both said my visa is valid for the entire schengen region. When I asked the easyjet staff they said it's a company rule and it's your fault even though nowhere on their website does it say I can't travel to Brussels with a type D visa. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. I am exchange student at Bocconi University and as students we have to have a budget. I had a flight from Brussels to Copenhagen and from there to Milan. All my hotels and airline money is gone in addition to all the emotional stress and pain I had to go through.

I want to know WHY this happened to me when all my documents are correct. My trip is ruined now but I would really like to know why this happened and how I can get a refund.

If all your documentation was correct (try TravelDocs website) you need to approach Easyjet for a refund and compensation for denied boarding under regulation 261/2004. Get a copy of Vauban's guide (google if needed) regrading the compensation regulation.
Some airlines, particularly easyjet are reknowned for having badly informed staff with regards to visa and passport validity in the Schengen area.
You perhaps need to ask for a copy of their terms and conditions regarding visas.

  • I was delayed by 5 (ish) hours on an Easyjet flight from Gatwick to Glasgow Sunday 20th March as a result of air traffic control strikes in France.

I applied for compensation through Easyjet who have since responded that they classify the delay as "extraordinary" and therefore do not offer compensation. I am aware that i can go through small claims court, but I am wondering if you think it is worth my while to pursue this?

    Thanks,

    D

Pretty sure that you don't have to fly through French airspace to get from London to Scotland ...

The airline will argue that the closure of French airspace messed up their overall operations beyond their reasonable control. You will argue that the air strikes should not have directly affected your flight, and the airline could have planned to field an aircraft to service your route, but chose in advance not to do so.

You'd likely have to take it to court, and frankly it could go either way I reckon.

If you were you on EZY887 Bott & Co NWNF lawyers say you are due 250 euro compensation per passenger.

Read Vaubans guide and either take them on yourself or hand it over to a NWNF Solicitor
