  • Something about the fuel. Overfilled? Not sure what exactly happened but the plane was sitting for a couple of hours while they tried to work things out.

As a side note, we travelled back to Liverpool from Gatwick in individual groups (5) and in luxury people carriers, straight to our respective front doors. I was alone in a Merc of some sort that could've taken 6.
  • Just wanted to mention my experience. Had a 4 hr + delay in 2010. I had an email from easyjet at the time to say due to technical fault with the aircraft. They had to fly in a replacement plane and crew.

I complained and filed the claim for compensation at the time and got rejected.

It wasn't so much the delay. I'm not the person that would just stick in a claim. They were awful - really bad at communicating about the delay. It was boiling hot, the small airport had no cash machines working, we had no local currency left to get anything. They gave us food vouchers but the place had run out of food. When we got on the plane the crew were really !!!!ed off about having to cover an extra flight as they weren't the scheduled crew. They had no hot food and no change and would only let you pay exact money for the little they did have. We actually had some euros but they wouldn't let us over pay for food so we couldn't get it even though I would have paid more to have something. I missed my train and had to get new tickets.

given the recent cases over technical faults I decided to try again over Xmas. To my surprise I got a prompt response saying yes I was entitled to the compensation and they'd pay 400 euro but would need to call me to confirm bank details. Which they then didn't do. I called them up and even though I had email confirmation from them saying they'd pay they tried to say they had no record so I'd have to complete the whole compensation process from scratch. I got stroppy and insisted on speaking to someone in complaints who then miraculously found the claim when I said fine I've got email evidence you've said you'll pay I'll just put a court claim in today so it goes through in time.

Anyway so the money hit my bank account but they'd annoyed me that much I called up the two friends that flew with me, even though I haven't seen one of them for ages and got them to put in claims too. They had never bothered claiming before They paid one no probs but tried to tell the other the delay was due to air traffic control strike not technical fault even though they had only recently paid 2 payments out for the same flight and refused to pay her initially. I sent her all my info which she sent on to them and complained and they've paid her too now.

So congrats easyjet would have only cost you 400euro but cost you 1200.
  • We were due to travel from Ljubljana to Stansted in May 2015. The outgoing flight from Stansted was delayed resulting in a delay in our return to the UK of over 3hrs. I wrote to Easyjet claiming compensation under EC Regulation 216/2004. Easyjet wrote back after a month to say that the event was classified as “non-extraordinary” and we were entitled to €250 each. They asked for the last 4 digits of the card on which the flight was booked. The flights were part of a package so I couldn’t give the card information. I wrote back to Easyjet and asked for a cheque as is my right under the legislation to be issued in £. Easyjet didn’t respond. Further chasing letters were sent and were not replied to. A Notification Before Action letter was sent and received no reply. All letters were signed for on receipt.

A claim was then initiated under MCOL. Easyjet responded with an Acknowledgement of Service within the 14 days specified by the Court and indicated they were going to file a defence. I found this rather strange as they had admitted that we were due the payment under the EC directive. However, no defence was entered within the 28 days allowed so I asked the Court for judgement. This was issued in my favour. This results in the Court ordering Easyjet to pay. However, Easyjet have still not paid so the next step is to ask the Court to issue a Warrant of Execution.

I wonder if other have got this far i.e. judgement in their favour but Easyjet still not paying and what action individuals have taken to get the money? Have people gone for a Warrant of Execution?

As the amount is less that £600, my understanding is that the enforcement is done by County Court Enforcement Officers rather then High Court Enforcement Officers.
  • It appears that you have followed due process and the Courts have found in your favour. In the Warrant of Execution request that the County Court Enforcement Officers seize an asset of some substance and real value. An aircraft out of action will be far more disruptive to EasyJet than the amount of compensation the Courts have duly awarded you.
I experienced a situation a number of years ago when I had to follow the same path and requested that the County Court Enforcement Officers seize the Managing Director's company car until the Court Order was met in full. Within two hours of the Enforcement Officers arriving at the company's premises a cheque was couriered to me. The English legal system is in place to help individuals and small businesses as long as you are patient enough to follow due process. It can be painful and disheartening especially when Goliath believes they can dominate David but persevere. Large companies often work on the premise that individuals will give up at some stage along the legal route. If the Court has found in your favour then expenses, costs and interest payments are reclaimable so if you've taken it this far the goal line is just yards away.

  • Has anyone got a link to EasyJet's refund claim page? Our flights were cancelled last Friday because of snow and we were unable to rebook. The website is a nightmare - I can't find where to claim a refund online. I can see our flights in the "My Easyjet" section but there's nowhere to click through to start a claim for a refund. The Help section gives info on how to claim but says if I booked on Easyjet.com I should claim online - it then directs me back to My EasyJet, where I can't find the link to claim... Help!

I found these by typing "delay" into the search facility:

  • Thank you so much - the last link was the one I wanted and I really appreciate your help!
  • Our flight from Geneva to Gatwick was delayed by 3.5 hours.
The reason for the delay (given to us by the Captain of the flight) was that there was an emergency on the runway at Geneva when the plane was coming in to land. The plane didn't have enough fuel to circle until the runway was cleared, so diverted to Basel to refuel.

I agree that the closure of the runway was out of the airline's control, however wouldn't it be reasonable to have enough fuel to circle for a while?
It should be noted that all the other flights that were due to land at Geneva at around the same time as our plane, did so with only 30-60 minutes delay.

Sorry squidier as I agree with easyJet. Out of their control particularly if other delays were 30 > 60 mins as EJ not obliged to carry a significant extra fuel provision to allow for, say a 60 min., circle of Geneva airport plus presume no guarantee than Geneva runway would be clear after an hour.

Would have cost EJ significantly more to land at Basel, refuel and then get to Geneva by the way so they would not have taken the divert decision easily.
