Had I of waited the 72 hours to be rerouted from Venice to Paris I would have missed my Paris to Dublin homeward bound flight with another airline which I assume wouldn't have been Easyjets responsibility as it was with different airline?

By making my own travel arrangements I've saved Easyjet at least 2 nights hotel accommodation.

Claim the flight refund from Easyjet and claim your additional expenses from your travel insurance

What could have happened does not come into it. You had the choice to take the steps you did or you could have sat at Easyjet's expense in a hotel and had to buy a new ticket from Paris to Dublin (which you would have needed to claim from your travel insurance)
  • Gutted. Contacted travel insurance who won't pay out stating I'm only entitled to £25 travel delay benefit and also stated had I have waited the 3 days for Easyjet to provide transfer flight they would have not covered homeward bound flights from Paris to Dublin which I would have missed. My Easyjet refund will not cover rail tickets or hotel accommodation I lost. Seems so unfair. Any advice?

Vauban and Caz3121 gave you their expert opinions and you'll now have read Vauban's comprehensive work on the matter, which he gave you the link for.

If you aren't legally entitled to anything then you aren't legally entitled. You could try writing to Easyjet and see if they will make an ex gratia payment but it seems unlikely.

The lesson we can all take from this is that (1) travel insurance is probably great for serious things but little else and (2) if you decide to change your travel plans, bear in mind that you may not get reimbursed.

All highly unsatisfactory but the law is the law.

Does your insurance not cover having to make alternative travel arrangements?
if not then next time you need to look at better travel insurance.
I've learnt the hard way, you really do have to read ALL the small print before accepting policy and usually pay more than you expected.
Cheapest in 99% of cases is definitely not cheerful for travel insurance.
If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Yep - agree with these gents.

You have no options now but to suck it up as a painful lesson(s) learned. If your trip involves independently organised and interconnecting elements, you need to make sure that you have a policy that covers you properly if something goes wrong.
  • Hi,

I'm entaiteled to compensation but I'm not clear on something. Is the compensation per booking (1)? Per seats purchased (2)? Or per persons flying (3 as it was me, my hubby and my infant child)?

We had a flight delayed 5 hours with an added stop over with easyjet that I'm currently complaining about and my father who complained about my sister that was with us won a 600 eu euro for her.
I placed a complaint and asked for 1200 euro but now I wonder...

    Thanks for the help!! :)

If you mean for a delayed flight, it is usually granted per person, but you can claim for all in a party on one claim. Best off asking on the relevant thread.

Per paying passenger (including infants, if they paid a publicly available fare - even a reduced one). If a family member has been paid out for the same flight, you should point this out to the airline before you initiate legal proceedings. All this is explained in my guide (last link of the sticky on the main air delay page).
