  • Hi, Just wanted to let you all know, I received cheques from Jet2 over the weekend for the full amount. (400euro each)
Delayed flight from Sept 2011 East Mids to Corfu, I did ask the CAA for help, not sure how much help they have actually been as they have not been great in keeping up contact, their last email suggested I might like to take it to small claims court.
  • Leaning? I think 2Birds having been telling Jet2 for yonks that they are on a loser and case after case has gone against them. Time to stop throwing good money after bad?

I have looked up DART Group (Jet2's parent company) in case there had been changes at the top but it seems not so. The group's performance is good financially - perhaps they decided enough bad publicity was enough.

After getting nowhere in January 2014 after half a dozen letters to Jet2, about a five hour delay on May 25th, 2013, my wife and I finally decided to put our claim in the hands of Bott & Co.
Happy with their service, plenty of feedback and progress reports over the past 18 months.
Now they tell me that Jet2 have paid up - amount received £937.16 (this is around €1310 euros at current rates). Our claim was for the statutory €400 each (€800 in total), so puzzled, but pleased to see this larger amount received from Jet2.
However, whilst Bott's 27% commission and €25 euros admin. per person was expected, we are a little surprised at the size of their other charges.
That 27% deduction, fixed costs and interest (less VAT) come to £305.82. Then there's disbursements of £70 and finally VAT @ £61.16.
The e-mail I received giving the figures was a bit sketchy and gave no detail of the fixed costs, interest and disbursements, just a final figure. Would have liked a bit more breakdown of the figures.
Their total charges come to £479.80, leaving us with £457.36 to split between us (£228.68 each).
Therefore Bott & Co. retained around 53% of the payment and we received 47% of it. Of course the VAT payment, I presume, they pass on to the government.
I wonder how many others have been surprised to find out how much Bott & Co. actually pocket.

That is interesting and I assume will be my experience if and when Bott & Co achieve a result in my cases too. I agree it does seem rather a lot, but I wouldn't have had the time or patience to do it diy, so a % of something is better than nothing. They are certainly getting a larg slice of the pie though. What were the disbursements for? I assumed that any costs would be included in their 27%.

although the larger amount is confusing, you will have had a good result to receive 80% of the €400 you were claiming

Recent events have got me thinking.

Botts are going to get a well deserved increase in revenue over the next few months as all these cases settle. It's largely down to their efforts in bringing cases to the Supreme Court that the industry has turned a corner and started to pay up.

But longer term, if the airlines just start paying, then they are going to suffer as their services will not be required anything like as often.

Swings n roundabouts tickled, swings and roundabouts. Given they have several thousands of cases on their books, I think they will more than recoup their costs over CoA and SC appearances. Their efforts will now be directed to marketing their services to the many that can't be bothered/don't have the time/initiative/nouse to DIY.
Conversely one would hope that airlines now start to put into effect more effective planning and management to reduce cancellations/delays and denied boarding, as was the original intention of the regualtion 10, yes 10 years ago!

Uh? I...won? Without going to court!

So. After receiving the exact same letter as last time - including the same previous date. I asked my daughter to go ahead and tweet Jet2 and remind them of everything that was going on. She tweeted pretty much relentlessly - asking them why they were ignoring the rulings and (later on), why they were ignoring my daughters tweets about the subject.

Today, I received a phone call from Jet2. They'd seen the tweets and they've "had a rethink" about the situation. They're now going to pay both my husband and I the compensation we deserve.

    I am completely stunned.

And today, I received the money owed.

A big thank you to everyone on this forum. I couldn't have done it without you.

Congrats and welcome to the club supermac!

It's taken some time to get them to pay up, I wonder how many thousands had given up by now?
