Just a word of caution RE: The above post.
Be careful as to the percentages / fractions you qoute of the compensation awarded.
My own claim (now five years old.)
Malaga -> Manchester (Me, wife 3 kids)
If / when we win, I would get 300 Euro x 5 (Approx £1100.00)
Bott & Co will get:
25 Euro per person
27% Of Claim Amount
PLUS: THE INTEREST: 8 Percent Going Back 5 Years
(If awarded)
Bott & Co will end up with about £1300.00
That is the deal you sign up to, when you allow Bott & Co to do the work for you. I don't begrudge them what they will get.... Mainly because they are doing the donkey work.
I just thought I'd point that out.
Just a word of caution about your maths, too!;)
5 x £20 = £100
27% of £1100= £300 (approx)
Annual 8% interest on £1100 = £88 per year or £440 over 5 years.
So Bott make £400 without interest or £840 if interest is awarded at the full 8%.
Have I got that right? Seems reasonable enough to me, if so. Especially if they have to take it to court.
EDIT: Percentages of total award would be 36% if no interest awarded, or 55% if the full interest was awarded.
But I still maintain that, as the legal costs are not ordinarily recoverable by the other side, having a qualified lawyer represent you potentially through the whole process for as little as £400 is very reasonable indeed. If you are not confident, or don't have the (very, very significant) time necessary to see this through to its conclusion on your own.0 -
Let me get my facts right....
Its been yonks since I put my mind to this (the advantage of employing Bott & Co. !)
Right, the compensation figure for Malaga to Manchester is 400 Euro (Not the 300, I originally said)
5x400 Euro = 2000 Euro ! (My claim is 4 1/2 years old)
2000 Euro (at todays rate is approx £ 1651)
That's the figure we start with !
Simple Interest Rate Calculation:
Figure x (Interest rate as a decimal x time)
£ 1651 x (.08 x 4.5) = £ 742.95 (The Interest On My Claim Amount)
My Numbers:
My amount = £ 1651 - Deduction of 27% (£445) = £ 1205.23
£ 1205.23 - (5 x 25 Bott & Co's Euro Fee = Approx £ 103)
My Final Award = Approx £1100.... Give or Take
Bott & Co' Numbers:
£ 742.95 Interest (Calculated Above)
Plus
£ 445 Their 27% (of £ 1651) Fee
Plus
£ 103 Their 25 Euro Per Claim (In Sterling)
Bott & Co's Award = Approx £1290.95.... Give or Take0 -
Even with your revised figures, I don't get same number as you for interest. (I make it £594?)0

You are right.... I am a burk.
Bott & Co's Figure would work out to be:
£ 594 (Interest)
plus
£ 445 (Bott & Co's 27% Fee)
plus
£ 103 (25 Euro x 5 Claim Fee)
Equals =£ 1142.00 (Give or Take for Bott & Co)
Maths was never my Strong Point.... Thanks Vauban !0 -
Interest for court cases is charged on a daily basis so your claim is for 2000€ which times 8% is 160€ - disregard the leap year = 0.44€/day. 4.5 years = 1642 days x 0.44 = 722.48€ so at 1.2€=£1 this equates to £600 approx. ~ so Vauban is correct.
ps I can see why you used Bott & Co now.
pps I have run two cases through the courts now and I got 5% in one case and 0% in the other.0 -
We were given 45 mins to leave the boarding gate and get a drink when we were first told there was a delay. We were then all requested to stay at the gate ready for boarding. That took 4hrs 45mins, so no we did not purchase food as there are no shops at the gate. The plane then had no food to purchase.0

A long overdue update on my case, outlined way back at post #33 a year ago. After becoming exhausted with Jet2 letter tennis we handed the case over to Bott & Co and eventually received response: "The airline has previously denied any liability to compensate the passengers on this flight. We are not yet in a position to issue court proceedings on this claim." Disappointing, but they say they will review every 28 days. Hopefully the advances you folks continue to make will help. Keep fighting the good fight.0

I wonder if Bott & Co are waiting for as full a flight on their books as possible before they take it to court?0

More likely is that until the uncertainty regarding the Huzar -v- Jet2 is resolved that there is little point (particularly with Jet2) in pushing any case.0
