    gordon retundo,
Not much joy you will receive from RA about needing to use an additional days leave. If you have your receipts for your food expenses at the airport and on board the plane you should be able to claim these back.
More importantly, if pursuing the claim yourself, use your travel friends payout as RA effectively showing acquiesce to this delay and this particular flight and that compensation should be paid to yourself too.
    Good luck and keep going.
Successfully sued Ryanair in 2013/14...and have been 'helping' litigants since then.

    Current known score:-
Dr Watson 35 - 0 Ryanair / Ince and Co

Go to post 622 on the Ryanair thread to read how to sue them safely.
  • thanks guys! shame about the work thing - i know it's not directly their fault but they sure did mess up my life for a few hours in the airport whilst my friends drank away their extended holiday!

Don't understand. You say "lead passenger" and "all those on the reservation" but that they have refused your partner's claim? Was your partner on the reservation?

Unless they have offered to pay you out in error, they look pretty stupid refusing anyone on the same flight.

Unless you are up against the deadline for legal action, I would wait until you get the cash and then get your partner's claim escalated to someone with an IQ in double figures.

The claim I made on behalf of my party was paid to me and I then paid everyone out. As the claim is per individual, they could pay to each but it's more work for them.

Got one payment to me for two passengers.

They've ignored my request for a refund of the taxi (30 euros) from AGP to hotel at 03h00.

Am I correct in thinking this should be paid as well ?

Not sure to be honest. Would transfer have been included if the plane had been on time?

not usually. contract will end when they delivered you to AGP,
Taxi would have been covered if they sent you to a different airport and you needed to transfer to get to AGP but not for onward travel which would be a consequential loss
Probably not even worth trying to claim from insurance depending on your excess...I guess the compensation received means you are not out of pocket

Here is Ryanair's response to claim . Are they entitled to ignore fact that they failed to reroute us back to original airport of Stansted giving us an inadequate replacement internal flight to Rome and also that this flight departed 9 hours later than cancelled one? Also their rep's wasted several hours trying to find an alternative route for us then with their assistance and guidance we booked the cheapest economy flight available with BA. If we'd accepted their only offer of a direct flight in 7 days time Ryanair would have been liable for one weeks accommodation and meals and expenses !

    Dear Mr Thompson,

We acknowledge receipt of your e-mail dated the 11th April 2016.

We sincerely regret the cancellation of your flight FR4967 from Lamezia to London Stansted on the 09/04/2016 which was due to Italian Air Traffic Control strike, outside of our control.

Ryanair is committed to providing on time flights with safety being our number one priority. However, occasionally there are situations outside of our control such as strikes which disrupt our flight operations. We sincerely regret that this service was one of a small number of flights that was cancelled. We confirm that all reasonable measures were taken to try to avoid the disruption of your flight.

We note you were re-accommodated on an alternative flight FR7050 from Lamezia to Rome Fiumicino on the 09/04/2016.

As a low fares airline, we cannot accept that the purchase of new full fare flights with alternative airlines is comparable transport (without Ryanair’s prior agreement). In this case, we regret that we are not liable for any other line expense incurred.

However, if you incurred any additional reasonable receipted expenses, please submit copies of your receipted expenses by clicking on the below link and uploading your documents for our review. In order for us to speed up the process please add your bank details:

Please be advised that Ryanair is not liable for any prepaid expenses.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience you encountered.

    Yours sincerely,

    Ryanair Customer Service Department

this is correct, they would have had to pay because they were legally liable to under duty of care.
Although the regulations state they should reroute you at the earliest opportunity, there is no ruling that this should be on other airlines so the fact that they had nothing available to get you back earlier is unfortunate.
This does tend to happen for routes that are not served with multiple flights each day...with only 3 flights each week, the rebooking options would be limited and based on capacity.

Even full service airlines in this situation would be likely to rebook on their own flights or possibly with a partner airline however they are likely to have more frequent schedules.

It does sound unfair as you have saved them money, but that is money that they only pay out through legal obligation...would obviously rather not pay anything.

It seems wrong that compensation applies only if your flight is delayed but Nil for accepting a later flight
to a lesser destination for only a fraction of total return journey. So if you're original flight departs late to original destination airport you may claim 400 euro each but Nil if you accept alternative flight 9 hours later than original departure time and pay yourself for subsequent legs of return flights?

your cancellation was due to extraordinary circumstances so compensation does not apply in either case.
Had you waited you would have qualified for reimbursement of accommodation, meals but no 'compensation' payment.
