Hi, I've had a skim read through this thread as it's mightily long but can't find what I'm looking for...
I have just returned from Italy where out Saturday morning flight from Bologna to Manchester with Ryanair was cancelled due to strike action.
We received notification of this about 19 hours before we were due to fly. After significant call queuing we finally managed to speak to someone who offered us a flight 1 whole week later or a full refund.
I know strike action isn't the airlines fault but my question is should they have offered accommodation? or transfers to another airport and flight to get us home. The guy on the phone after much questioning from us and at our suggestion got us a flight later that evening from Venice to London Stanstead.
This meant we had to make our way from Bologna to Venice then London to Leeds at our own expense. Can we claim our travel expenses back from Ryanair?
I'd have thought they'd have offered this option to us on the phone call rather than us having to make suggestions to them to check other airports at each end of our journey.
We tried our travel insurance company but they have referred us to the airline and the amount of our loss is around the same as our policy excess anyway.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As the strike was only for 4 hours I can't see why Ryanair couldn't have rescheduled flights to a later time, as BA apprently did.
If you had stayed the extra week Ryanair would have been responsible for your hotel and subsitance costs. If they re routed you they are responsble for all your costs to get from your original departure point to original arrival point, irrspective of the route. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Thanks I've read the guide and think that I should be entitled to claim our expenses back under duty of care.
Does anyone have any advice as to which is better to use the airlines Web form or the resolver tool? Is one quicker or more likely to get a response than the other?0 -

You are still owed a duty of care which should include transport to/from a different airport plus hotel, meals and refreshments.
From Article 8
3. When, in the case where a town, city or region is served by several airports, an operating air carrier offers a passenger a flight to an airport alternative to that for which the booking was made, the operating air carrier shall bear the cost of trans- ferring the passenger from that alternative airport either to that for which the booking was made, or to another close-by desti- nation agreed with the passenger.
If you accept a full refund their duty of care ends.
If you have receipts you should submit them to the airline who will, no doubt, turn them down in the first instance.
Resolver is easier but less certain as they can just string you along and ignore you. I would diy or nwnf solicitor but ulitimately it's your choice.
Good luck. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -
From experience ....Ryanair will only consider paying for DoC if you have original receipts (but do not send these at the moment) .... eg even if it was totally obvious that you would have needed a taxi to get from A to B there is no way they will pay unless you have a (signed) receipt.0

I've been informed that they will pay for a delay. Do they send one payment to the lead passenger for all those on the reservation or is it multiple payments, one per individual ?
My other half was on the same flight. They accepted my claim, but denied hers. Denial was inaccuarate waffle.
So I was wondering if they'll send me € 8000 -

Don't understand. You say "lead passenger" and "all those on the reservation" but that they have refused your partner's claim? Was your partner on the reservation?
Unless they have offered to pay you out in error, they look pretty stupid refusing anyone on the same flight.
Unless you are up against the deadline for legal action, I would wait until you get the cash and then get your partner's claim escalated to someone with an IQ in double figures.
The claim I made on behalf of my party was paid to me and I then paid everyone out. As the claim is per individual, they could pay to each but it's more work for them.0
