I have a resolver reference but no acknowledgement from BA.

I just don't know whether to apply directly to BA - found it really difficult to find the flight delay compensation form - only one I could find was flight delay expenses - which I'm assuming is the same thing?

I did escalate the complaint with Resolver today as directed.

    Thanks for your help :)

I think the flight delay expenses is just for reasonable expenses while delayed.

    Have you phoned them?

No I haven't phoned them. I might do that tomorrow. It's getting the right number and department, nothing is easy unfortunately

I just called this number and ba have no record of the complain. They said because it was code share I have to contact American Airlines that ba are not responsible. Although they were able to tell me all my details of what flight I'd been on as the reference must be a ba reference. Typical pass the buck really
Now I'm unsure whether to start a new case with resolver and close existing British airways one. Determined to not let them get away with it.

What were the circumstances of your delay? If you flew from the USA to the UK on American Airlines you are not due any compensation. UK to USA on any airline you could be due compensation depending if your delay was not an extraordinary circumstance.

If the delayed flight was operated by American Airlines, then BA is absolutely right: it's got nothing to do with them, even if you booked your ticket with BA. You might want to share with us your delayed flight details - if the delay was on the return leg (America to Europe) you won't be covered by the Regulation, and therefore owed nothing under 261/04.

Thanks guys for all the helpful advice
Details of flight are as follows
    British Airways BA1586
Depart Dublin 9:55 23 June arrive 13:05 Charlotte NC (USA) then connecting flight
Depart Charlotte NC 14:20 arrive Miami 16:19

Actually missed connecting flight due to delay and arrived over 3 hours late
All boarding passes are American Airlines. But my booking reference is British Airways
It's all so confusing and just trying to get my daughter compensation as it was her honeymoon.

Flightstats shows you flight BA1586 was operated by American Airlines AA 725 and landed at Charlotte 184 mins late. Did you have one ticket from Dublin to Miami with a change at charlotte or did you have 2 tickets Dublin to Charlotte and Charlotte to Miami

    Hi,

Unfortunately that flight is operated by American Airlines on a code share agreement with BA.

When you book a flight through the BA website you must look carefully because against many flights it will say "operated by American Airlines" or Iberia etc.

That means it's not BA's responsibility to put things right if it all goes pear shaped, plus it may not be covered by EU261 as possibly in this case.

Connecting to other flights in the USA is something to be avoided if at all possible. The chances of being stranded are too great to risk imo.

Many passengers are failing to getting the flights they want with the airline they want by not paying full attention or being confused by the multitude of options available via BA's website.

I'm flying to Miami later this year and I took care to ensure that we are on a BA aircraft in each direction just for the comfort of knowing that we are covered by EU261. I also wanted to fly on the A380 due to it's great comfort, size and safety record too.

Booking flights just isn't as straight forward as it once was.
