No, you need to do the direct distance Warsaw to Edinburgh. Vauban's guide links to a website that wll calculate for you.
At least BA honoured their duty of care during your delay.

    Hi

We flew from Las Vegas to Dublin via Heathrow last week.

There was a 3 hour 1 minute delay on our connecting Heathrow to Dublin flight which meant we would have missed our Dublin to Gatwick flight (on a separate ticket) but when we spoke to the BA crew asking if they had any news we were told we were swapping planes and they said there was almost a zero chance we could make the return flight and we should get off at LHR...

We then had to wait 3 hours for our bags but I would imagine this might be either a separate or even non existent claim. I've read Vauban's guide and think we have a claim as we were told it was a technical fault with one of the on-board computers however I don't think it's that straight forward as we got off the flight!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

I don't understand your route! Vegas to Dublin, via Heathrow? Where does Gatwick fit in?

I don't believe there is any compensation due as you were not a delayed passenger. Once a flight is delayed 5 hours you can receive compensation whether you travel or not but up till then you need to be a passenger.
BA had a responsibility to get you to Dublin as a final destination and had you taken the flight you would indeed have been likely to receive compensation but you need to offset that with the expense of buying new tickets back to the UK had you missed your flight
In theory you could possibly ask for a refund on the unused part however they could also say they would reprice your ticket
looking at random dates DUB-LHR-LAS-LHR-DUB is around £450 but the same flights DUB-LHR-LAS-LHR are around £830....not that they are likely to ask for the difference but there is likely no refund on the unused leg

I would not expect anything for the baggage wait. Your bags were in the transfer system as they would have been tagged directly through. There are 1,000s of bags in this system and it is rare for bags to be taken out of the system to be offloaded at LHR so it would take time to hunt them down with a limited manual workforce to do this

If using the tool, do you put in BA for a BMIbaby flight?
  • Regarding flight delay compensation, how is the distance of connecting flights calculated?

I flew with BA from GLA-LHR-ARN. My connection in LHR was missed and I arrived over 6 hours late.

    Are the kilometres calculated as:
    A to B to C,
or directly from A to C?

The reason it's relevant on this route is that the direct distance between my departure and destination is under 1500km but going via LHR takes it above 1500km and into the next compensation level.

Firstly was your flight from GLA Via LHR to ARN all on one ticket. If yes the distance is measured from A TO B TO C almost 2000km What was the reason why you missed our connection at LHW
  • Yes, all on one ticket. The first flight left GLA about an hour late so I was automatically re-booked on the next available LHR-ARN.
