  • After 3.5 years of hassling Thomson for compensation they have finally paid out.

Delay was 20+hours from Gatwick to the Maldives.

I wrote to them at the time and have written numerous emails since, after the recent rulings i got in touch with them again but they only paid up after i had issued a Notice Before Action.

They have paid £949.93, which they say is the equivalent of 600 euros. Invoice date they have used is 27 Feb 2011. It is only a partial success as they haven't paid anything in lost interest and probably used the exchange rate that favoured them...........has anyone had any joy getting interest owed from Thomson?

My advice to anyone dealing with Thomson is get an NBA issued
  • Has anyone heard from Bott&Co recently?

I raised a claim in late August, and they updated to say that they'd send an LBA. I emailed again a month later but got a snotty reply saying that they'd be in touch when they had news, as they have thousands of cases to run, but that there had been no reply so they would be starting court proceedings.

I'm now getting the generic emails (we're hoping to pay before Christmas/maybe the 29th etc) but no update on my specific case.

Do I just leave it until they get in touch?

Why not ask question on their facebook page and/or send them an email. After all they will 'charge' you for using their service so they should answer your question(s).

They are only obliged to pay interest if you have issued proceedings and included a claim for interest so if they paid before you issued, they are correct. The upsides is that you haven't had the hassle of having to issue proceedings, pay court fee etc so I would look on it as a windfall.

  • Views on our Thomson flight from Tenerife yesterday please. We should have taken off at 7.40pm - actually took off at 12.35am - 5 hour delay! Initially told it was caused by severe weather - fair enough we thought, we knew there had been snow in the UK - BUT the Captain actually informed the whole aircraft that the plane had actually been sitting on a runway at Geneva airport! There was no problems with take off and landing at that airport but the snow was so bad that they made the decision to keep the plane there for at least 4 hours in the hope that their passengers could get to the airport to catch the plane - 42 people were actually left behind. Then further delay because of crew operating hours so crew had to be persuaded to work on. Someone made the decision to delay our flight so that the plane could wait around for several hours to pick up passengers from a different airport in Geneva.

So no technical fault, no adverse weather that affected the plane taking off or landing, just that passengers could not get to and from the airport.

Is this a valid claim for compensation? We were all given a voucher for 8euros, which wasn't even enough to buy a meal and drink at the airport thankfully we still had money with us to make up the difference.

The delay meant a 5 hour delay and instead of arriving home at midnight, we actually didn't get in until 4.50am. Thoughts appreciated.

Our party of 6 were on the outbound flight from Exeter to Tenerife on this day with the same delay and were told the same.

I agree there was nothing stopping that flight leaving on time from Geneva other than than the fact they knew they would have to send another aircraft or make arrangements to collect the passengers left behind!

We did feel your pain when we saw you all waiting to board as we got off!!

I think you have a valid claim. It was Thomson's choice to delay the departure of the aircraft from Geneva. I appreciate that this was a gesture to help those passengers delayed in the Savoie snow chaos BUT this shows up the problem of the tight schedules airlines run, with no redundancy for delays. I suspect other airlines may not have waited as there was no interest in waiting for delayed passengers but clearly Thomson have an interest since the passengers were most likely their ski holiday customers too...

It is interesting that in Mrs Optimist's case, the only person who told the truth (or perhaps knew the truth) was the Captain of the aircraft. This is exactly what happened in my case. It would be useful to get a note of the Captain's name if this happens again

Do pilots have registration numbers that identify them or similar?

  • I called Bott and Co today and they said that they have only asked for claims which they have litigated to be paid so if this isn't the case then stop waiting for the postman or checking your emails because they haven't even started on these yet.I've contacted Thomsons myself because Im fed up too of waiting to hear.Bott said they will call me back but still haven't and I think emails they send are just copied and pasted to stop clients asking questions. Not impressed with the service at all
