Hello, myself and my girlfriend had a flight back from Hurghada (Egypt) cancelled on Monday 6th August, that was due to fly at 22.00pm Egyptian time. We were not given any vouchers in the airport and we were unable to locate a Thomas Cook rep until we got outside the terminal building at 12.30am. We were put up in a hotel from 2am till 8.45am on the morning of Tuesday 7th August, our flight was rescheduled for 13.00pm on the afternoon of the 7th of August. We were cancelled due to technical issues with the incoming plane having to divert into Luxor, by the time they reached hurghada the pilot and cabin crew had reached the maximum hours of work they were allowed to do. On arrival at Manchester airport we were given claim information letters from reps, I’ve submitted the claim on 9th August, it’s now 20 days and nobody has got back to myself, I know it can take up to 28 days but I find this fairly poor that Thomas Cook have not had the decency to update us on the process. I have been delayed before 3 years ago with Flybe and we was paid out within two days ! I’ve looked at Bottonline who calculated we are entitled to compensation of around €600 each, is this fairly accurate from them? I’m not holding my breathe here as Thomas Cook seem a nightmare and it’ll be the last time we fly with them. Any advice or timeframe possible? Thanks.

I think your positive experience with Flybe has set high expectations.

TC, like most airlines, will take much longer to get EU compensation payments settled.

If you claimed on 9th August it has only been 13 working days.

    Hi,

I received an email from Thomas Cook re: my claim for compensation. Email states that I will receive a BACS payment as full and final settlement.

Can anyone tell me how long this normally takes as no date is given in the email.

    Thanks,
    Karen
  • Hi, update all,

I received an email saying this.

Thanks for getting in touch with us about your flight.

I'm sorry you were delayed. I know how frustrating it can be. We work hard to make sure delays and the disruption they cause are kept to a minimum.
We've investigated the reason for your delay and can confirm that it was due to a Runway closure. This is a reason that is out of our control and means that under EU Regulation 261/2004 compensation wouldn't be paid.

I'm really sorry your flight was delayed. We're looking forward to welcoming you back on board again soon.

    Kind Regards

    Mathew

Weird, in arrivlal at Manchester there was reps waiting with letters which I sent a copy in saying how to claim compensation. It was due to the plane being diverted to Luxor due to technical reasons but they didn’t state this when we landed. Next move??

Did you keep a copy of the letter?
If so, that's your evidence of a change in "story" should it go to court. Send an NBA with 14 days notice. The submit court papers or refer to NWNF. You may have to play the long game. Don't submit your letter evidence until you put your court bundle in.

    Hi,

I took a look at your flight on planefinder playback. Radar coverage in that area is very poor, but from what little I could see a few aircraft from UK (LGW etc) seemed to divert away from HRG to different airports.

Did you see anything while you were at the airport that may suggest there was a problem at Hurghada airport? Perhaps the runway was closed for some reason.

    Good luck.

  • UPDATE:

ThomasCook have not responded to my email regarding compensation for the delayed flight TCX2019.

I assumed they wouldn't, but worth a go before proceeding onto the next plan. Shall I now use a company to battle this?

    Hi adam0412,

On the basis that you have little experience and seem a little hesitant, I would go with Bott & Co.

They will charge you around 33% but they take charge of the process and you can sit back and wait for them to sort it out on your behalf.

Do not use a claims assistance company, there are too many bad ones around causing all sorts of problems for the unlucky!

    Good luck.

  • BOTT+CO stated it is unlikely they would be successful in recovering compensation on this occasion and wont be able to progress with my claim any further.
  • Give EuClaim a call see what they say.

Had a 12 hour delayed flight out of Stansted with Thomas Cook in July, raised it with Resolver and they agreed to compensate. First email from them offered me the money as flight vouchers, which I declined.
Since then, the last 3 emails from Thomas Cook to my Resolver file, have been computer generated asking for feedback, which I've replied to saying i do not want the flight vouchers, but the compensation as money instead.
That was 3 or 4 weeks ago, still heard nothing. Resolver says I have 6 days until I can escalate to the Senior Independant Director

Will this resolve my issue do you think? Are TC taking an age to compensate me because of the couple of very sad incidents in Egypt recently occupying all their resource?
