Has anyone else had any joy claiming back money following the 26 hour delays that occurred last June from Gatwick. TC are claiming a power surge as the fault, which means they don't have to pay out. However from reading someone else's thread, Gatwick have said they have no report of a power surge and only our plane was affected that day. I have seen similar posts from Beanie65 and Endaf but they were a while ago and haven't seen anything recent to see how they got on.

    Any feedback would be welcome.

    Thanks

    Phil

My feedback would be to forget what other people have done - it doesn't set a precedent anyway - and concentrate on what you're going to do to get your compensation.

If they've given you the brush off, you've only one other alternative ...

Vauban, the similar cases I referred to were on the same flight as me, so reading what progress and answers they had received could save me months on waiting on responses if they had already received the answers.

I just need to know how they got on as their last posts were last year some time.

Sorry but pointless, Vauban is right, just start proceedings, we've even heard of cases where some passengers have been paid and some haven't even on the same flight.

If you want to know if your claim is a valid one simply use Bott & Cos flight checker and your flight can be checked against their database.

    Cheers,

I have started proceedings and its the same answer to the other 2 that I mentioned, they won't pay out as they say there was a power surge at the airport therefore not their problem. But Gatwick don't know of any problem that day and our flight was the only one that day that was grounded for that reason. I'm getting the same answers to the others that were on my flight. Which is why I would like to get in touch with them. Surely liaising and working with others will save you time in the long run and will only enhance your argument.

    Hello

I hope this is the right place to post, it seems to be! Also I don't know if it's been asked before as the post is so long!

I claimed to Thomas Cook in January via their online form, I've had two replies sayin there is a delay but no time frame given.

Does anyone have any idea of the time frame before I can expect it to be dealt with?

    I appreciate your help.

    Regards

    Daphne

Sorry to say Phil, but it just doesn't work like that.
I agree, if fact we all agree (I'll take the liberty of speaking for the others) that logically, and applying common sense, it should be the way.
But what we have here is a legal system which allows the airline to say No no no no no no no sorry you're out of time. Anyone else having been previously paid out counts for zilch.
All you can do is start proceedings, and as part of those proceedings, be sure to ask if the airline has already paid out to any other passengers on the same flight.
If they say yes they have, in front of a judge, then they will lose.
But unless a judge asks them to answer, it's one of those stick your fingers in your ears and go la la lah la lah moments. ;)

All I'm trying to find out is if anyone else on my flight has been paid out, surely knowing that information would benefit me, rather than hinder me. I thought that was the whole point of this website to bring together aggrieved customers, otherwise there wouldn't be over 7000 posts. I understand every case has to be dealt with individually, but if people didn't share experiences and case studies we wouldn't have got to where we are now. I'm struggling to see how me talking to other people on my flight that are also claiming for the exact same reason can be pointless.

Phil, as Mark2 says its not us forumites, its because the airlines and the legal system to an extent, choose to ignore any sort of precedent set by sucessful claims on the same flight.
