Does anyone know if passengers were paid out on the infamous G-OMYT aircraft from manchester that engine blew on take off in 2013?

The Manchester engine blow up was not till mid 2013, however I was due to return home 26/10/12 from Orlando on the G-OMYT, before it got to us it had a detour to Iceland, then never arrived.

The G-OMYT passengers were forwarded to Orlando by a new plane I believe, but in the meantime some 24+ hours later we were home bound on a different plane.

Although we were not on the G-OMYT, our flight was delayed due to the G-OMYT not arriving, and YES we have been paid out, about 3 weeks ago, finally having been to court etc, case being stayed etc, blah blah and through persistance and phone call to TC and Weightmans (very nice lady) fully paid + 8% = £2543 for 4 passengers.

i was on this flight with my family, my sister called TC from the uk when we were in iceland and was told the reason the plane could not land in st john's was because it did not have enough power to fly into the gulf stream so it needed to turn around so the gulf stream was behind it to power it to a safe landing. we saw engineers on board when we got on the flight and we were told 'slight problems, nothing to worry about' in my opinion, if there is any doubt, the plane should not take off. the pilot made a bad error of judgement, did he not hear the bangs on take off? yes i am glad we all landed safley, and credit to the crew for that, but we should never have taken off in the first place. our holiday was never the same after. unless you are in that situation you do not know how frightening it is.
received a letter of TC. we are not entitled to a penny compensation. they are siting extraordinary circumstances. is this true

What flight were you on? The one which had to go to Iceland was on route to Orlando aircraft G-OMYT, not St John's?

CityBoy1 hasn't visited the forum since his original post.

My interpretation of the post is...

I think St Johns was the preferred diversion airport but they could not get there on one engine so they turned around to fly downwind to Iceland. When he said "gulf stream" I think he meant Jet stream. It was the Gatwick to Orlando flight.

I tried claiming in October/nov and got a straight decline. I tried again in January and they've just paid £1,220 into my account!::j

I had to keep chasing them, but I was always polite. I declined the vouchers and they sent the cash for two people delayed both ways manchester to dalaman 12 May 2012 and 19 may 2012. Just looking at holidays for this year now. We might even have 2 this year.

Thank you to Vauban and everyone else, as without finding this forum I wouldnt have had a clue what to do xxxx

Having continually looked at this particular forum to guide me on how to claim for my Thomas Cook flight delay I just wanted to thank all the regular posters.

After what has been a lenghtly process I have just recieved a total of £1290 from TC for delays dating back to 2010.

    Thanks all

  • After initially being refused compo for being delayed 24 hours on a long haul flight, I wrote back that we had been on the same flight as other couples who had been granted compo. I stressed that I still held all documents concerning that flight. After no response, I rang Customer Relations who after checking told me we DO qualify! Hurrah! £460 each towards this years holiday! (Thanks Martin xx:j:j)
  • Hi I have made a claim with Thomas Cook for a delayed flight . I have given date , flight number and times of departure and arrival but they are now asking for boarding cards , tour operator invoices and airline tickets. None of which I have as the flight was 2010. Is this really necessary for my claim? Thanks, Andrea.
