Interesting article by Simon Calder, criticising Thomas Cook for their practice of trying to pay compensation with their crappy vouchers:

True, but I when I read it yesterday over a few nespressos (way before 5pm wineoclock time) I got the impression that Simon is generally not in favour of the regulation per se as it too heavy handed?
I've read it again and I still think he feels that way.
Again a failure to grasp the raison d'etre of the regulation- airlines have a choice and have had the choice for 9 years now, to change their business model/operational practices and deliver punctual services or pay the penalty financially.
Budget airlines are no longer, certainly not as they were in 2004/5. They are no longer "cheap" but don't porovide any better serviceIf you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Same position as yourself with TC awarding me compensation and sending me a voucher despite email rejecting voucher and requesting cash payment they have nor replied despite another two emails sent to them asking for a response to my request.
Is it any wonder I won't accept their vouchers?
Toatally hacked off with TC, will avoid using them ever again following my experiences in dealing with them.0 -

I completely agree with that, the airlines were giving seats away a about 5 years ago, I recall a flight to France that we went on, £10 each way, I also surprised my parents on their wedding anniversary by paying for them a short holiday in Jersey again £10 each way and that included all taxes. There's no way I could do it now wih today's prices.
It's obvious that these crazy prices were unsustainable but Jet2 I find are definitely the most expensive of the 'cheap' airlines. I really like EasyJet personally, and I know I'm going to upset the good Dr, but I like to fly RyanAir they have a modern fleet and I personally have never suffered a delay at their behest.... YET. I even like the little fanfare they play when you land, 'another on-time flight from RyanAir' I bet Dr Watson has nightmares about that!
Cheers,

I agree, and when he appears on rolling TV news when there's problems affecting air travel, mainly severe cancellations, he doesn't make clear absolute rights to re-routing under EC 261/2004 to the viewers.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
This is what he said in the Independent on 13 June 2014...
The Independent Traveller is assiduously pro-consumer and has always fought for fair treatment for passengers. Yet this ruling looks unreasonably onerous for airlines – and potentially expensive for their customers. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -

Contacted the court following TC plans for a further stay pending Van der lans, they applied at Liverpool. The Manchester Court informed me that any will go back to Manchester as they judge there is dealing with all TC cases not Liverpool.
Now lets see what happensCheck out Vaubans Flight Delay Guide, you will be glad you did....:):)
