Don't understand them either, refused to tell me the reason for our delay for "operational reasons", thought I was dealing with MI5 not TC. They did actually write ant tell me the reason 7 days after I had filed, just more ammunition to throw at them.

I still don't know,, hoping to find out now they've issued a defence! I am assuming though that their legal department know more than I do!! Could be wrong though :D

I recently decided to complain to Thomas Cook with regard to 2 flight delays, both from Dalaman Airport returning to Manchester.

Flight TCX975L had a scheduled departure of 02.05 on 1st November 2010 and actually departed on two separate flights, mine at 17.30 on the 1st November 2010.
Flight TCX2869 had a scheduled departure of 01.55 on 15th June 2012 and departed at approximately 20.30 on 15th June 2012.

I sent two separate complaints recorded delivery at the beginning of February. On 1st March I received the bog standard letter stating the delay was "unforeseen" and I was not entitled to anything. I replied by e-mail on Tuesday 5th March asking why I had only one response when I had sent two letters. I received a response last night explaining that my other letter was on its way.
Today I received a letter with a voucher for £1080. I will be requesting the cash equivalent.
Both delays were of a similar length and I don't understand why they have paid up for one and not the other. I will be pursuing, but £1080 was a nice surprise today!

Wow, well done. Can you please tell us EXACTLY who you sent the recorded delivery letter to - we are struggling to get a reasonable answer out of them.

Hi folks,

Has anyone else lodged a claim for this flight which was due to leave at 10:25am but actually left at 1:58pm?

I have sent my letter away by recorded delivery and I'm considering also sending a scanned copy via email to make sure they actually get it.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has claimed for this flight and had a response.

Thanks,
Ally

• Good to see a couple of people getting somewhere with this!
I sent a letter out 14th Feb, by normal post and have yet to receive a response.

I added the generic:
I look forward to a full response to this letter within 14 days. If I do not receive a satisfactory response I intend to pursue my complaint further, which could mean taking it to court.

Should I send another copy of this letter to them by recorded post for acknowledgment or go straight to a letter with intent of court action?

Which address are people sending letters too? theres so much info in the thread now its hard to see the wood for the trees!

Can you confirm the arrival time was greater than 3 hours delay?
Planes often make up half hour during flight due to the generous flight time allowed.

Straight to court. You've given them chance to answer, plus a week, and they haven't.

i have been sending mine to bradford,i wouldn't bother with recorded,it just cost you more,it took them a month to relay each time i wrote, you will get a standard reply saying investigating further, then one stating ec with no explanation, ask them to explain how they came to this, they will then ask for more time, that is when i gave them 14 days or it's of to court
• After some persistence with TC I finally received a cheque for £2,120 from them this morning.:T

Our flight to Sanford on 27 July 2012 was delayed for over 6 hours. I originally wrote to TC in October and received the usual standard denials (around 5 in total). However after pressing them to explain what the exceptional circumstance was, they eventually sent a voucher and then a cheque when I asked for this instead of the voucher.

It took about 6 or 7 firm letters to them but clearly well worth the effort.

Huge thanks to all the regular posters on here for their invaluable advice and assistance but particularly Blondman, Mark2Spark and of course the EU compensation guru, Centipede. I doubt I would have been able to achieve this result without having the information posted on here, so really appreciate the time and effort put in by all:beer:

Hello folks

I've just received an email from TC blaming a faulty "static inverter" which surprise, surprise they say is extraordinary.

I seem to recall reading on this forum a post from someone who received the same "fault" excuse.

I have looked but can't find it. I would be very interested if someone could point me to any post referring to a "static inverter. It would be even more intriguing to find out if it was the same flight and if not then that would surely blow TC's "extraordinary" claim out of the water!

Thanks
