  • we were delayed for 24 hrs with thomas cook we were put up in a hotel all inc within 2hrs we got £100 for the two of us
  • Hey I'm currently writing out my letter I was wondering whether its worth claiming for losing a whole day of our holiday. we were meant to arrive at the hotel and lunch and didn't get there till about 7 or 8. I can't remember the details as it was so long ago.

We were delayed over 7 hours before boarding. Only received a refreshment voucher about an hour and a half before boarding, which I only learned from overhearing a passenger. We weren't actually told by the staff. We also weren't allowed back into duty free, so we were stuck with a costa coffee stand or buying refreshments on the plane.

Having being there since 3am for check in we had to buy both breakfast and lunch at the airport before receiving the voucher. But I don't have any receipts. I did ring up after the holiday to see if we could get compensation but they offered me nothing. I can't remember what I was told but I remember it did bring my phone bill up from being put on hold a lot!

Any how, Im going to claim for flight delay and refreshments however I am wondering whether it is wonder trying for compensation for loss of a day of holiday.

We bought it as a package holiday and were miss sold in the first instance so we had to pay more money to change the hotel and flight despite being able to depart on the same day to the same airport to the same resort. Therefore the holiday cost more than it should have and everyday mattered.

    Please help!

My flight to Cuba from Manchester airport on the 17th August 2006 was delayed for 5 hours, has anyone tried claiming for something this long ago? I have tried flightstat to check what the the flight number was but it only seems to go back to 2010,I know its probably a longshot but would be interested to know if anyone has claimed after this length of time?
  • Hi all, newbie here.

I was in a party of 40 people flying with Thomas Cook to Mexico last year which was delayed by 10 hours.

In your experience would it be better to do a great big claim for all 40 or individually?

I was going to claim for just myself first to see how it all works before I claim for everyone.

Advice for a claim this size?
  • We flew to Larnaca on the 3rd June 2009 and I have checked with flightstats and confirmed we were over 8 hours delayed. Can anyone advise the address I need to write to. Many thanks
  • Got this reply from thomas cook today regarding a delay in 2007:
what shoudl be my next move as im unsure what to do next.

I am writing in response to your letter regarding your recent travel arrangements with Thomas Cook.

It is with regret that I note your flight with us was delayed. Whilst delays are an unfortunate part of air travel, I would like to assure you that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to ensure that any disruption to our passengers is kept to an absolute minimum.

When a delay is initially identified, it is not always immediately apparent as to when a revised take off time can be secured. A number of factors have to be considered, which can vary dependent on the reason for the delay, and quite often we are reliant on outside influences, such as Airport Authorities or Air Traffic Control. Throughout, however, as soon as confirmed information is available, this is passed onto our customers as quickly as possible through our handling agents at the airport.

Although delays do occur on occasion, they can arise for a number of different reasons, and having carried out a full investigation the specific circumstances surrounding the delay to your own flight were extraordinary, despite Thomas Cook taking all reasonable precautions necessary to prevent the situation. I can see that customers were provided with welfare during the delay, in line with our obligations under EU Regulation 261/2004. Your delay was due to the cargo bay roof panel being damaged by a cargo container which was forced upwards when the local loader unit malfunctioned. This type of incident is a one-off and extraordinary event. As the events were defined as “extraordinary” no payment of compensation is considered appropriate in this case.

Please be assured that on-time performance is a key measure for us as a business, and we constantly review our operations to ensure we deliver the best results, and service. I would like to offer our apologies for any inconvenience you were caused on this occasion and I hope that despite this, your stay was found to be an enjoyable one.

    Kind Regards,

Using the word extraordinary 3 times in 1 paragraph. Do you think they are trying to tell you something? :D
  • I have tried looking but the flightstats website doesnt display the info for my flight that was delayed. just wondered if I'm doing something wrong.

The flight was TCX 3457 on 15th Oct 2011, departing TFS Tenerife South airport at 0030am arriving at Glasgow Intl Airport at 0505.
From what I can find the website seems to display it under the 14th October.(?!?)

    any help appreciated

I'm sure they won't let you claim for delayed flights of the future? :rotfl:
