Mysk - that is a beautiful kitchen, well done :)

I am not doing very well today at all. Last night me and hubby were trying to decide on if we should send dd3 to school today as she has a bad cough and cold and then this morning I fell back to sleep so I couldn't take her to school unless I had taken her in very late. So I have dd3 here, I feel really down on myself for falling back to sleep and I have done nothing today! Anyway, sorry for the moan.
  • Hiya ladies, sorry I haven't posted for a few days. I hate snow! I hate snow days and the kids being off school! But they are back now, and although it has tried to snow a bit this morning, it hasn't stuck.

Shegirl, hope your sprained thumbs aren't too sore. I prefer alarm clocks too :)

Mysk, that kitchen looks gorgeous. I'd love a new kitchen, but it isn't going to happen in the foreseeable future.

When the lads went back to school yesterday, I developed a mad enthusiasm to clean up. Mind you, the house was a tip. So, after dropping youngest off, I had a coffee and toast in Costa, then came home and did the following:

    Tidied lounge and dining room
    Tidied kitchen
Put dishwasher on twice, emptied and put everything away
    Cleaned cooker
    Cleaned all work surfaces
Decluttered one corner of the kitchen
    Cleaned sink and draining board
    Cleaned kettle
Swept floors in lounge, dining room, kitchen, hall
    Cleaned toilets
Sorted some old clothes for recycling (3bags)
Sorted old videos for charity shop/tip
Researched possible crafts for Brownies to use old video cases if charity shop won't take videos
Emptied unit in hall, pulled out from wall and decobwebbed, cleaned, and replaced
Put three washing machine loads on
    Put four loads in dryer
Folded umpteen clean clothes (but not put away yet:o)
Started sorting older son's books and toys, which have taken over most of the dining room . This is a major job, but I must have done ok so far, because the kids' responses were 'wow!'
Did a little bit of shopping
Put the kettle on numerous times for coffee to keep me going :rotfl:
Attended Slimming World, where I found I had gained a pound :(. Darn those chocolates :o

Today I have tried to have a doze, as I had a really bad night. It didn't work, though, as the phone hasnt stopped. While I've been typing this, the school nurse has phoned to say that I have missed my son's community doctor appointment - but I didnt receive it . I'm now on hold on the phone to Alder Hey to try to rearrange the appointment.

I think I'll carry on with sorting toys and books when I get off the phone. I've got a meeting tonight, but everything is sorted for that. Mum is having older son, younger son is at Young Carers and they will pick him up and return him afterwards :)

Right, am off the phone now. Alder Hey don't know anything about my son's appointment except that he had one today. They don't know who I should ring to find out more, but school have given me a number which is just ringing out. I'll try again after lunchtime. Hopefully someone will be able to tell me how long it will be before another appointment is available, and whether I will be informed. The school nurse used to send out appointments, but this time the hospital have sent them. They definitely have the right address, but no letter received

Another call earlier was from a friend who has had a minor road accident this morning in the ice. Fortunately she isn't hurt, nor is anyone else. She's a bit shaken though.

Ok, I'm off downstairs to put the kettle on and start the toys and books again. I've got four tall bookshelves to sort, plus stuff that won't fit onto them. Yesterday I managed a large proportion of the stuff in front of the bookcases, plus all but the bottom shelf of the first unit, so this afternoon I should manage another bookcase full. I have loads to take to the charity shop or tip, so I might make a trip later when I collect youngest from school.

    See you later ladies x

It's my son's birthday in about 6 weeks, I was goin to try this one

My MIL has a cake pop maker she is going to lend me, but you might be able to improvise something if you don't have access to one? It looks quite easy but stunning. He won't care, he's turning 3 and cake is cake, after all, but I fancy having a go :-)

Ye gods, kingfisher, your feet must be smoking after that lot!

    I've

Cleaned the bathroom (not deep clean, or MIL clean, but casual visitor clean LOL!)
    Tidied all the bedrooms.

    Yeah, that's it.

Did have coffee with a friend though, and am now off to do the washing up. I am. Honest. Not to play on Pinterest or anything like that. At all.

The kitchen looks amazing in the mockups, but like I said there will have to be some corners cut to come within budget. I just can't wait for one that doesn't date back to the Cold War! And isn't damp. And doesn't have cupboard doors falling off. And matching units that aren't different heights round the room. And all the tiles match. And the shelves aren't bowing in the middle. And isn't about 2 square metres total!

Can you tell I can't wait?!?

Shegirl, - ouch - hope your thumbs improve soon.

Mysk_girl, that's the kitchen worktop I fell in love with. you can live on beans on toast 1 week a month can't you :D
The job's at Jessops, thats the only baby hospital in sheffield now. both my 2 were born there and I spent a lot of time in the early pregnancy unit with DS2.

WOW kingfisher - bet you needed the coffee to keep you going with that mission.

Wow you ladies are doing great.

I just seem to hit the ground running, with 2 school runs to do a day, up to 8 buses and then there swimming twice a week and beavers.
I feel like i am constantly in motion.
Am holding my own on in the house at the mo but not sure i can keep up this pace.
Need to slow down i think as i am getting a pain in my heart itself.
Friends reckon it is stress related.
Got doctors on friday to check it out :(
Keeping up with the washing so far which is the most important thing to me, so we all have clean things.

I also need to have it out with OH because while i am so proactive with dealing with it all, he has taken it as a sign to put his feet up and just deal for himself.

I get to award myself 8 out 10 today - not bad - and I'm going to do some googling now on the birthday cake ideas so may make it 9/10 before the day is done.
We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.
  • Wow Kingfisher, you always seem to get so much done, I am very envious!!

......now kind of feel embarrassed to put that I am proud I finally got through my ironing pile today :T did also get through 3 loads of washing, kept house generally tidy and took DS2 to docs but didn't do much else, although your list has reminded me I must descale the kettle, its only a quick job but I keep putting it off and forgetting about it?!

Would love to design my own kitchen (even though I have a pretty nice one tbh - but it's not MY design) but as we rent like chickywiggle we too are limited to what we can do, although after moving about lots over the last 8 years we are finally settled in this house and don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon and it's pretty decent overall.

Love that cake idea Mysk_girl, its my DS2's birthday soon too, may have to pinch that idea :D
  • and relax........just in time for bed. lol

Spent all night on my personal statment and am pretty impressed with it........ but it's SOOOO long covering every main requirement on the person spec. hoping my manager can offer some advise on what to cut out/ how to re-word it to make it look a bit shorter tomorrow so i can get it sent off.

Morning all! Chicky, I'm sure it's an awesome statement, hope you get the job :-) I haven't applied for a job in 8 years, it must be nerve wracking...

I got a text from a colleague yesterday to say we are 'restructuring'. Again. 4th time in 5 years. If I end up at risk this time, I'll probably just opt for voluntary redundancy and stay at home with the kids for a while. But in not sure I just want to give up like that... We'll see what happens when the official paperwork arrives, which might not be for a few months anyway. I'm pretty calm about it, as whichever way it goes we will be OK, I was considering not going back anyway...

Today is more relaxed. School run, cleaning, collect small boy at 12, lunch, deliver him to MIL for a 2 night sleepover, come back to collect big girl at 4pm as she is doing after school club today (free one - yay!), then tea, bed and crochet :-) sounds good to me!

    Things I have to do.

1/ preschool paperwork from committee meeting last night
2/ buy flowers for a friend who is in hospital
3/ make quilted mug rugs for a friend's birthday
4/ clear baskets on living room floor and return them to MIL
5/ nag OH to pay preschool bill (he has the money in his childcare vouchers account so I can't do it and its now overdue. I'm chair, so a leetle embarrassing being late paying!)
6/ usual washing, laundry, picking up.
7/ TAX RETURN!!!! I now have all the bits of paper I need so should be quick enough...

    Think that's about it...

    Onwards and inwards!
