hey kingfisher, bless you what a rough old time you've had, so glad that you have good people around you.

My enthusiasm has gone AWOL, I don't know where it's gone or if it is coming back.... It might be because I didn't sleep too well last night or because I wrote a ridiculously unrealistic list for myself and couldn't even achieve a quarter of it. Really hoping that some of the motivation comes back for tomorrow!

Not sure whether to write a list or not, for fear of it putting me off!
  • Kingfisher : Hope he's ok! Poor lad :)

Organisation slowly going out the window, sleep taking priority :) lol

Hi ladies, sorry I haven't been online for a couple of days. It sounds as though you are all doing better than me :o

Lindsay, hope everything goes well for you. Let us know how you get on.

I'm going to backtrack a bit to Tuesday. I had a manageable list and some enthusiasm, so I fully expected to acheive a fair amount. I dropped youngest off at school (older son has special needs transport door to door). I had breakfast at Little Chef and then did the shopping. At home I had only just made a coffee and had made a quick phone call, when youngest's school rang. They wanted me to pick him up as apparantly he had been sick (their words, not mine). Ten minutes later, I collected him and could see straight away that he wasn't well. He was clinging onto his right side and was almost in tears. His right testicle was painful too.

Fast forward an hour and we were in A&E. The doctor told me that he didn't have a twisted testicle but may have appendicitis (which had been my concern, based on exactly where the pain was in his side. To cut a long story short, he was admitted but didn't have appendicitis. He had blood in his urine, not visible to the eye, but kidney stones, gall stones, and damage to the abdominal wall muscle were all ruled out over the next 24 hours. I told the staff that he had had blood in his urine a few weeks ago, but the it went away and the doctors weren't sure what had caused it - and was told that this was irrelevant.

They didn't know what was wrong, and because of the total lack of information and poor care, I pushed for him to be discharged last night. At that point, I found out that he had been referred to urology, but no one had told me previously. This is just one example of poor care - there are many more.

I've spent quite a lot of time in Alder Hey over the years, with older son, and their care has always been great. The local hospital was dreadful. I won't ramble on, but the only two good things were the treatment by the ultrasound lady (when we finally got to see her!) and, according to my son, the food :rotfl:.

Today we have seen the GP, as we were given no information about aftercare, follow up appointments, etc. He examined my son, arranged another urine sample (which I would have thought the hospital would have wanted), and dictated a referral to Alder Hey whilst we were in the room. The GP told me that my son had slightly raised white blood cells in his urine, indicating a possible infection. The hospital hadn't mentioned this to me at all. He also said he was concerned that my son had had two incidents of blood in his urine in a very short space of time, hence the referrral to Alder Hey.

The results will be through tomorrow and antibiotics might be prescribed. In the meantime, he is off school, and my house still isn't tidy :p

Today, the washing machine has re-washed the stuff that I left in it on Tuesday. The dishwasher is empty and part refilled. That's all so far though.

My older son stayed at my mum's, as did my daughter. Her work allowed her to finish early and start late on two of her shifts, so that she could help my mum (age 79) with my son. School transport agreed to collect him from mum's, which is round the corner from where we live. On Tuesday, when my daughter was on a late shift and there was nobody else to collect him from his after school club, my friends collected him and took him to their house for tea, until my daughter's boyfriend was able to pick him up and deliver him to Mum (mum doesn't drive and it's very poor public transport to the school from where we live).

So, untidy house, poorly son, but brilliant family, friends, and GP :)

Tomorrow is another day............ and the housework will still be waiting :rotfl:

Hope it's nothing serious hun, sorry I didn't respond to that bit last night:eek: :( As for the hospital, they sound pretty carp!

Forget the organisation for a bit x

I am so glad my kids are mostly old enough to not be waking up at silly o'clock any more - tho the youngest still climbs in bed with me sometimes when Hubby has gone to work.

And WOW!! Sorting just 2 drawers took aaaaages. Thrown loads away but kept loads too. Anyone know how long you should keep wage slips? I have kept 6 years worth and destroyed the rest.

My understanding is that you need 7 years payslips in case you have a tax return to do. However, to cut down on paper, you only need to keep your annual P60 received around the end of the Tax Year (April) to evidence each annual total of money paid to you, tax and NI paid etc. Hope this is helpful!
    Bring on a homemade 2013!

I think I need your son shegirl :p

And yes, the hospital isn't exactly A*. It's a lovely new building, completed about two years ago, but a shiney and spacious hospital isn't much good without competent and caring staff.

Kingfisher, hope your son is okay.

I haven't been on here for a few days, but I have had a productive week, done some more decluttering and either moving things to new permanent homes or getting rid of them.

Went to Card Factory today and bought most of my cards for 2013. I even got MOthers Day cards, which I know is really early, but at least its out of the way now!!!!!!

As I found out today and have spent some time chasing, you also need your P11D (if issued - details expenses paid and taxable benefits eg medical/dental insurance) and any tax deduction certificates for interest received on bank accounts. I was hoping to complete mine today and couldn't locate any of the above documents. Unfortunately the company I worked for in 11/12 no longer exists so I can't go back to them. HMRC were some help, but I'm going to have to get remain and hope I can find the P11D. Luckily Lloyds gave me the figures I needed over the phone for the interest paid and tax deducted (only pence!) but I haven't managed to get the figures for Nationwide yet. Am very annoyed with myself!

im going to give it a miss this year as I didnt use mine last year, but they are scrummy.

On my way there forthwith, much thanks for posting this :-)
found this on facebook no idea if it will help on train fares?

I'm coming from Oxford so transpennine express is not the right route, but thanks anyway :-) I normally go to the station to book as you can choose the seats - unless you can do this online anywhere now? We may now be going in feb half term (11th-15th for us), but we'll see... Annie is still very little for a train journey...

I've done well today, cleared the bookcase as planned and half the fridge. Got the thread, but no progress on the cushion as I found a picture of some crochet bunting and decided to have a go.

Here is my evenings work, this is going to be part of the decor in our bedroom, once I've made a few more!

Tomorrow is likely to be less productive as I have lovely boy (nearly 3) with me as he doesn't go to preschool on Friday. So I foresee a morning of Fireman Sam jigsaws and car crashes in the back hall! Then he needs a haircut, so Daddy is going to take him to the barber at lunch and we will all have lunch together as a treat. Then big girl has her first ballet lesson at 4.30, so I need to do packed tea for lovely boy to eat while she is dancing or he will be impossible.

The list to attempt is as follows :-)

1/ washing up, hoovering and a load of laundry
2/ phone Nationwide to get figures for tax return
    3/ finish fridge
    4/ more bunting
    5/ finish Laura's cushion
6/ take old clothes to rag collection point
    7/ mend E's jeans

Kingfisher, sorry to hear you've had such a rubbish time, he's a lucky boy to have you fighting his corner... Hope it goes well for you both.

    Bedtime...

I would kindly volunteer him...purely on the basis of helping someone out of course ;):rotfl:

Naff all else done here today as I'm so tired I'd probably collapse! Although, got some additional baking done at ds request- cherry scones, cherry buns and cherry cookies...I see a theme here:rotfl::D

Also just managed to order a tension pole for the stair/landing window which will save me paying someone to put a blind there (why do they put windows in such daft place?).That'll be here Saturday and means I can get the fabric that matches my gorgeous feature paper to make a window panel :) (if I can find the fabric at a sane price- the wallpaper is normally £58 a roll:eek:). Then I can relax when I come of the bathroom - window is facing next doors side window across our side gardens lol

Back to finishing the house tomorrow!Or at least planning it...
